I agree Ryan is struggling but everyone in the tnenis world is being really impatient with these young players. They're not near the peak of their powers yet so there's plenty of time.

The pace of Dimitrov's rise seems perfect to me. He's been around for a while now, starting building steadier results towards the end of the year and now it is just a matter of time before he makes a breakthrough against one of the top 4. Today he looked very impressive, his backhand looks to me like it will be better than Federer's - both the slice and top spin - and there's no doubt he will make top 10.
In January I predicted a Wimbledon quarterfinal for him this year, I'm going to take a punt on him winning it next year. Must be worth a bet with the odds as they will be right now.

Disappointed in Dimitrov though I'm a big fan. That's close matches against Djoker, Murray and now Nadull just in the past month or so that he's lost. If he doesn't get that big win soon, it might never happen . He served for sets against Murray and Djoker and threw in multiple DFs .

    Re: International Tennis Stars

It will happen, as I said he is still young and learning. The fact he has been as close as he has been is better than some members of the top 10 get a lot of the time!

Another Novak v. Rafa showdown tomorrow! I'll be getting up early to watch it. Rooting for Nole as always in this matchup.

I don't think I need say anything about this picture apart from I thought his legs looks great and, once again, I wish they all wore shorter shorts. Looks like Rafa has got slightly shorter shorts, but still not good enough.

And one of Fabio since he had such a good week ..

Nole wins MC! What an intense match, especially in the second set.

Novak is now the only player to beat Rafael Nadal THREE times on clay.

Novak is also so close to winning the Masters slam...with all his final appearances in Cinci you gotta figure he will do it eventually. This one was the tougher one for him to get and he just did it. Check.

Nadal is still the favorite at RG to be sure. Best of 5 is something else. May the best man there win.

hopefully he can carry through to the French this time- I'd hate for him to win all the lead ups like he did in 2011 and lose the big one! Rather he lose to Rafa now and win the French!!! If Rafa wins it- I may never watch again!

  11. #2311

    Re: International Tennis Stars

Stunning performance from Novak. Makes the rest of the clay season so much more interesting. The fitness and the ball-striking of these two is ridiculous! Sad whenever Rafa loses, but I do find myself pulling for Novak when they play.

I want Novak's crosscourt backhand, his groundstrokes really are some of the best the game has ever seen.

After the match he posted this picture back home with Jelena, are you guys imagining what I am imagining happened not long after this picture was taken?

No falling to the ground and biting the trophy for Rafa today . So delighted. That feeling when a fave beats a player you really dislike is something else. At least Rafa's cute off-court though .

Nadull is a weird one. He complains of too many hardcourt tournaments. His antidote to that seems to be to play every week of the clay season .

Never mind the fact that it's actually immediately after the clay season is where his biggest injury breaks have come (2009, after long clay season didn't play till the US Open IIRC - 2012 after long clay season and first round loss at Wimbledon misses the rest of the season).

It's understandable he wants to play Barcelona as it's in Spain (before someone points that out to me ), but given the past, I'm surprised he doesn't skip it and just play for the home country in Madrid instead. There are two Spanish events. He doesn't really have to play both .

Please- NNNNOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! He'll probably still be #5 going into the French- since he won everything last year- he could get points out of Madrid- lost early there last year- lost points in Monaco this year- maybe that's the reason he's playing Barcelona- to get back to #4 so he won't have to play Novak or Federer in the quarters....Hope Novak wins- he deserves it- if Rafa shows up and plays 3 months and wins- talk about a disgusting lack of depth in the game!!!!

    Re: International Tennis Stars

The great thing about the top 4 is that they divide opinion. People have their favourites based on style and character, that's why the game is so healthy right now. I don't think there is a lack of depth, I just think the top guys are staggeringly good.

It's great that everyone is so passionate about the players. I couldn't disagree with a few of you more about Rafa. I find him incredibly likeable and exciting to watch. It surprises me that when he plays Novak that I route for Nole and that is how I know who is my favourite player, but I really do feel lucky to be watching this generation and we are going to miss them when they have gone. All of them! I might even miss Federer.

yes- Rafa greatest MAN of all time on clay- the men's records NEVER come close to the women- but the media always plays them off as THE record- while calling women's 'the women's record' Federer- THE RECORD Majors- eventhough Court has 8 more....Raf THE RECORD French- eventhough tied with Chris- and let's face facts- Chris skipped the French 3 times- 1977-79 because World Team Tennis was the big event- the French and Aussie weren't really valued much back then....during that time- Chris won 128 str8 on clay- she DEFINITELY would have beaten Sue Barker, Mima Jausevic and Virginia Ruicizi and have 10 French.... (Aussie used to be on grass- Martina skipped it 77-80 four times- on Grass- she could have maybe 3 more titles..)

Right - they break it apart by gender - which is cool - I just wish they would mention it when they compare accomplishments. We know Rafa is the greatest clay court player for men - but then they should mention (for tennis fans) Chris won 128 in-a-row. Rafa won (was it 78 in-a-row, I'm guessing could be more) Maybe 103 in-a-row??? Don't remember. So Rafa is the best for men but not the best when it comes to men and woman - Chris won 128 in-a-row. Wow!!! Brilliant record. Ms. Court won 11 Australian Open titles and 24 majors. She is the best for that accomplishment for men and woman. What is so wild (and very surprising) is that Steffi Graf is the last player to have won all four majors in the same calendar year. However they never seem to mention that Martina N. won six slams in-a-row. Six in-a-row. Wow!! Just not four in the same year. So it gets pushed under a carpet like it was no big deal. Six in-a-row. Fucking amazing!!

The great Serena never won four in the same year - but won four in-a-row. Again who cares because it wasn't in the same year. Record books and keepers throw certain accomplishments in the trash because it doesn't meet their criteria for record keeping. B.S.

Steffi Graf was the last player to win a Slam (in the final) 6-0 6-0. Who has done that?? Wow..

Martina N. has to be the greatest all around player of all time - when you take her doubles, mixed-doubles and singles - put them all together. Great accomplishment of all time.

I don't feel Roger will win another slam - since Novak and Rafa beat him playing to his backhand. However who cares (at this point) the man has done amazing things - brilliant tennis player. He doesn't have to win another point to prove anything. He already has.

It is also amazing with tennis right now. Leg power. They have tree trunk legs - very strong legs. Perfect fit bodies. Guys are hot!!

    Re: International Tennis Stars

Martina- won her first major at 16 in 1974 and her last, 6weeks shy of age 50 in 2006 (both mixed- French 74 and US 06), she's the only player to win slams in 4 different decades and singles slams in 3 different decades....she made 9 str8 Wimbledon finals (82-90) and won 6 straight times (82-87), also has the most singles titles- 168- I think that is the stat that really makes her GOAT- slams weren't always the be all end all- players skipped French and Aussie ALL the time- they didn't have the Olympics to win until 1988, the year end championships has changed so many times- even being played in March.... so the total number she won speaks/screams volumes!
