It's not the screeching for me it's the wham bam brainless play they bring to the court. A Serena match - and most of hte others for that matter - goes like this ..

you get the picture. They were playing power tennis in the later 90s and early noughties but it was enthralling. The likes of Capriati, Seles, Davenport and the Williams were just at a different level now. The problem watching Serena - and why I don't bother any more - is she has realised she can just totally outmuscle everyone so that's what she does. It's ugly to watch.

Serena's power is her strongest attribute but she isn't all brainless ball bashing. She moves a lot better than most the other BBB and can actually serve. It's just unfortunate that she's basically a walking hospital.

It's a catch 22 for me. I'd like fresh blood, but then I wonder if the lower seeds can produce a dramatic, hard-fought final...whereas with the top players it's more likely to be a tight dramatic final....but then how can the lower ranked players ever get there if they never get there....

Most players in their first slam final don't do that well, and lose in 3 sets mostly, but if we never get any new players experiencing that, how are we to know how they could build on it for the future?

Another classic/epic match between Fed and Andy, loved it. Didn't have a rooting favorite so I just enjoyed the exquisite tennis, tension, and drama (including that awkward interaction between the two when Murray was serving for the match in the 4th).

Another night of sleep sacrificed...but worth it.

As for Federer, I'm convinced he could shoot someone and be praised for doing it with class and finesse. He acted like a tosser at times during that match, just because he struggles against Murray. He never really gets called for it and he has done it with Murray since the start showing him very little respect. He pisses me right off as does the reaction to him by pundits everywhere. Good riddance.

Murray was getting a bit annoying about the calls, so Roger told him to open his eyes (the balls were in- Andy thought all were out)...I wish there was more stuff like that in matches- there's been this mutual admiration society for too long in the men's game- a little animosity between some of them might be good!

I didn't watch the match (I turned it on for a few seconds, and the first thing I saw was Murray doing his usual bitching so I turned it off again) but if that's really what happened then I really like Roger for doing that . Murray always drags down matches with his negative attitude so why are people getting on Roger's case so much for like one or two outbursts a year when Murray does it pretty much every match?

I didn't realize before that Federer apparently swore directly at Murray. Even though I generally can't stand Murray that was not cool of Roger. And believe me I know Roger's had a lot of untoward moments in his career (especially later in his career) that get swept under the carpet. But I think it shows that Murray's behaviour annoys his opponents just as much as some tennis fans . But yeah, understandable but not cool from Roger.

like or loathe Vika that was an amazing mental effort for her today. i love li na, she is a great character but i was happy either way. the attitude to vika reminds me of how people were with seles before the stabbing and she has similar mental strength.

i'm not going to defend Vika in the semi final but people need to give her a break because she is being made into a villain even when she does nothing wrong. the pundits are as much to blame as anyone. you had the eurosport commentators rooting for li na so that vika got her 'commupence' - decent pundits should rise above twitter hate!

i also would never defend murray's behaviour on court, he's been a total brat for years and hard to like although he seems to have that under control now.

hate that the screetching Banshee won!!!! I criticize Fed a lot- I think he can be a bitch- the way he slips in snide little comments in press conferences, etc....but in the Murray match, I honestly can't fault him for that- I wish more players got confrontational.

So far, Murray playing extremely well - Novak is not. Rather like the US Open final.

Novak picked it up and Andy tightened up (and got some nasty blisters on his big toe). Not to mention feather-gate in that 2nd set TB...but a top pro shouldn't be bothered by a stray feather, if it did indeed throw off his concentration there.

Glad Novak won! 4-time AO champion and now 6-time slam champ!

Better luck next time Andy, you'll get many more chances.

I started watching at 5 all in the second set- Nole should send me a cut of his prize money NOLE, NOLE, NOLE!!!!!!! I love when people say you'll get many more chances- you never know- Mo Connolly, Monica Seles, etc- things can turn on a dime in sports....

The feather thing was a load of bollocks, the BBC put way too much emphasis on it at the end. The better player won, once Novak went up the gears - and I don't think he was ever at his absolute best in this match - there was only one winner. It might have been tight but it was scrappy with only a handful of really standout rallies. Delighted for Djokovic.

Hit for Haiti was great! Only second to the Rally for Relief in 2011, imo.
