Re: International Tennis Stars
Awesome from Berdych and, from what I read from journalists, typical of Federer to offer him few words of praise after the defeat. Basically he said he didn't play well, fuck off. I hope he did offer a few more compliments that I just haven't read.
As for Tomas, this could be his moment and what an amazing turnaround after poor form at Wimbledon up until the week before the Open. He's got to have a chance against Murray after that win under the lights.
While the men's event is fascinating I doubt Serena will lose more than a dozen games for the rest of the tournament. Embarrassing for the other players and the tour.

Awesome match between Ferrer and Janko. For me, Janko deserved it for playing the braver more adventurous tennis but I love Ferrer so massive credit to him. Best match of the tournament and one of the best of the year.

Ohhh God I had Tipsarevic to win and he was leading at various stages of the match only to choke it away. You could just see he was thinking "Oh my god I'm about to make semis of a grand slam"

I'm watching every minute of the US Open TV coverage but there is a heavy cloud over it 4 me now...still finding it very difficult to deal with these big changes & my emotional cup still runs over.
Have a pretty big file of Andy on a memory stick so I will use these next posts as therapy hopefully to get past my heartbreak...the sadest I have felt over this sport since falling 4 it @ the Atlanta games in 1996.
I feel silly that Roddick's retirement has gotten 2 me in such a strong way but I can't help it & don't know yet where 2 transfer the obsession/adoration/worship or whatever this disease is called.

The next time I saw Andy was about 2001 in Miami...the nosebleed seats were horrible & he was ant sized but I enjoyed it though I had travelled there to see Agassi...it was the last time I purchased main stadium seats...this is the worst deal to waste money on @ a tournament...from then on I bought only grounds passes & staked out practice courts with occasional visits to peek in on actual match play...that's how you get the good pix

In all I was able to be @ 6 tournaments where Roddick appeared...sometimes close up & sometimes not so close...best was last year @ Winston Salem when I finally got the 1 autograph (took me 14 years 2 get John Mcenroe's & I never got Agassi's) worst was the dissappointing 2010 Delray Beach tournament where he showed up briefly 2 withdraw & I missed him by seconds

I share your pain tennis6, Andy is a proper star of tennis. I loved him for all his career but the time was right. I shed a few tears with him after the Delpo match but the way that one went kind of summed up his career for hte past two years. Great selection of pics.

I may not be able to watch the final, but I'm pulling for Andy Murray.
I'm not a huge fan of his, but the thought of anyone going 0-5 in Slam finals is unbearable to me.
Plus it'd be cool to have a Scot win a Slam!

Hoping for a classic. I am happy either way. Novak now my fave after the retirement of Roddick but as a Brit it would be good for the sport here if Murray won.
Gutted for Vika tonight. Hope she has won some more fans through her determination and shot making this tournament. Just glad the final was competitive. Women's game is on the up IMO.

Re: International Tennis Stars
the minute she got up 5-3, I knew the neon bitch would fight back or she'd collapse.....honestly, it's hard to notice the quality of her game because of the screetching she does- can't watch her or Sharapova- huge mistake for WTA not to invoke noise rule now- in five years when it kicks in, half the fans will be gone!

Re: International Tennis Stars
I think during the Maria v. Vika semi, Mary Carillo (of course) said they should really do something about the screeching. Cuz it ain't a grunt, it's a screech from both of them. Maria's is a little more tolerable because Vika's just draaags. They showed each warming up. Maria doesn't make any noise at all, Vika on the other hand, makes the same noise, only shorter and softer.
Now Serena grunts. Those are grunts. She used to get loud at times, but during this match, I don't think she grunted but 20 times. Great comeback from my favorite female, and quite frankly, best player on tour right now.

Re: International Tennis Stars
Apart from the noise, which doesn't bother me, I think the women's game is about to hit a healthy period. I've definitely seen better tennis in the US Open than any other major this year and feel Vika, Sharapova and Serena are settling into their positions as the top 3 with Kvitova not far off.
Now that Wozniacki is irrelevant the game can move on and hopefully next year can be a really good year with those rivalries developing.

Re: International Tennis Stars
It's a pity Serena lost a lot of Slam opportunities battling injuries and weight issues. She should probably have at least 18 Slams by now. I dont think Vika upped her level in the second set, Serena just started getting tight and dumping everything into the net, and then when she realised how many errors she was making she started playing passive allowing Vika to boss her around. Serena has the heaviest ball in WTA tennis when she really unloads.

Re: International Tennis Stars
Serena was apathetic most of her career- she said repeatedly the first 10 years, she had other interests and it's cost her- you only have a window to play tennis- you can design dresses into your 90s, but tennis- 35, maybe...playing 12-14 events a year shows a complete lack of committment to the tour, she's always had dsidain for the tour- routinely ignoring the rules, etc...Kvitova needs to get in better shape to seriously challenge and a noise rule needs to be enforced NOW!!!
Women's tennis is where men's was pre Federer- they're just mindlessly bashing the ball...hopefully a female Fed will come along to force them to become better tennis players.

Re: International Tennis Stars
Ironically, given how inconsistent she is, Kvitova is the best hope of an all court player right now. She's got it all but relies too much on the groundstrokes. I do think things are getting better and I've been the biggest critic of women's tennis players in recent years.
Just watching the men's family and I've got to say that Novak is sex on legs. The way that ass noves in those shorts is hot.

You can not win multiple slams on apathy. you can not win multiple slams without putting in the hard work. To say she was apathetic for most of her career is extreme generalisation. She did of course experience burn out just like Federer did they been on the tour almot half their whole lives. The men also engage in ball bashing from time to time. Tennis is a power game first and finesse second. There is a lot of point construction in the WTA too but I guess it would not be visible to someone who doesnt know much about tennis

Novak looked SO sexy, especially when the wind was blowing against him and you could see the outline of his body underneath his shirt.
