Rock bands Daughtry and Hot Chelle Rae have been added to the lineup for the 29th annual American Music Awards (the latter will play the official pre-show).

They join previously announced performers Katy Perry, Maroon 5 with Christina Aguilera, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Pitbull, Marc Anthony, Chris Brown and LMFAO. Nicki Minaj and David Guetta are slated to open the show.

The host-free event will be broadcast live from Los Angeles' Nokia Theater on Sunday, Nov. 20. on ABC. Among the nominees: Adele, who's up for four awards including Artist of the Year and Favorite Album; Perry, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, Rihanna, The Band Perry and Taylor Swift each collected three nods.

Pitbull and Minaj, who announced the nominations together Oct. 11, each earned two nods, as did Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Brown, LMFAO, Kanye West and Jason Aldean.

Presenters scheduled to appear include Queen Latifah, Joe Jonas and Jenny McCarthy. Avril Lavigne and Benjamin Bratt will also hand out trophies, THR can reveal.

The 38th Annual American Music Awards airs tonight at 8pm, and in celebration of the show, we’ve decided to pay tribute to the female recording artist with the highest number of AMA’s, the legendary and iconic, Whitney Houston.

When Whitney Houston first burst onto the scene in the mid 80s, she was the pinnacle of musical perfection. Model-esque looks, catchy songs, style, poise, undeniable stage presence and most importantly, a voice with limitless potential. Success surely followed, as Houston eventually sold more than 175 million albums, broke #1 records set by the Beatles and Elvis, earned more than $500 million worldwide at the Box Office, influenced a generation of singers and became one of the most respected and revered artist in history.



Whitney Houston has amassed 22 American Music Awards, including the prestigious Award of Merit in 1994 and the International Award in 2009. She is third overall behind Michael Jackson, with 26 and Alamaba with 23. Houston is also overall the most awarded female artist in music history according to the Guinness World Records.

Whitney’s voice is truly a gift and with it she has touched the hearts and souls of millions worldwide. Let us celebrate Ms. Houston, not only for all that she has given to the music industry, and her sacrifice, but how she has personally impacted our lives.

Often times when we go through certain trials and tribulations, our accomplishments are forgotten and we are judged according to our failures. People are quick to write you off and challenge your character. Celebrities are no different and these days, with us losing our legends at a rapid pace, we should stop and pay homage to the true pioneers who paved the way and laid the foundation for others to walk across.



Music would not be the same if not for Whitney Houston. She reached a new level of success for the female entertainer and broke down barriers with her music, making it easier for other African Americans and female pop artist in general to follow suit. Whitney deserves “nothin but love“, because that is what she has given and shown throughout her illustrious career. When all is said and done, Whitney will go down in history as arguably the greatest female vocalist of all time.



We’ve compiled together as many of Whitney’s AMA moments as we could find including performances and acceptance speeches over her entire career. Watch them to be reminded what it means to be an true performer, and a diva and notice how each performance is completely live. Whitney does not lip-sync, and that is to be respected and commended.

She still holds all her records, she still has the most AMA awards won by a female artist, she's still the most-awarded female singer of all time and is cited in the Guinness Book of World Records for that and her other accomplishments, her last most recent album still debuted at #1 on top of the Billboard chart and has currently sold over 3 million copies worldwide to date and is still selling, her last tour despite all the negative response in the media was still one of the top highest grossing tours of 2010, she still grabs ALL the headlines and makes front page news on CNN, FOX, MSNBC, People Magazine and all the rest of the leading news outlets (for good OR bad reasons), grabbing all the attention & sparking most people's interest even 30 years deep into her career after people have supposedly "written her off" so many times and they're still here for her giving her the most highest rated interviews and albums -- so I highly doubt SHE actually cares about someone on a message board calling her a has been. People still turn out for her and give her countless chances, believing she will still get it together and give them the return they want from her. I'm sure SHE isn't worried one bit about being called a has been right now. She still gets a standing ovation every single time she comes out onto a stage. LOL I actually thought this year was one of the better ones the AMA's have aired in recent times. I enjoyed J.Lo (really liked her performances and she SLAYED with that dress she had on when she accepted her award. Beautiful), Chris Brown, Kelly Clarkson, Drake and I though Nicki Minaj did "aight" with her performances. She racked up her awards last night and I LOL'd when she almost bust her ass TWO times. I don't know why Katy Perry got a standing O for that performance she gave...I thought that was odd that they decided to give HER a standing O when they weren't giving no one else one, but that's just me..lol. I think Chris got to perform because Rihanna wasn't able to attend. I'm sure they wouldn't have BOTH in the same building. And yes LMFAO ended the show right. Nice way to end a show.

The show was deplorable... but these awards shows have been on a steep decline. And I do like J Lo, but that was an ABSOLUTE disaster of a performance. I just wasn't impressed. Maybe next time they need to invite MicK Jagger like they did in the Grammy's... because apparently only a 67 year old can put the life back into these boring shows. Whitney Houston is discussed on all them SITES THAT REALLY MATTER when it comes to what's "relevant" or not, the sites most people go to online for their news/gossip. Them sites that GET THE ATTENTION/EXPOSURE that matters. And Whitney Houston's news stories are ALWAYS reported and talked about on these aforementioned sites, as well as Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, The Insider, Extra, ect. Now I love JUB, but JUB isn't being brought up or cited on any of these shows where millions are exposed to and tuning in for. And Whitney Houston is always TRENDING on Twitter, another popular site. She's always talked about everytime any one of her CLASSIC movies air on tv, or whenever she appears on tv. People tweet about her HEAVILY. People are talking/discussing her and checking for her. Maybe not so much here, but everywhere else where it matters. So, anybody's opinion/dislike for her on this site is, using one of your favs, pretty irrelevant.

So while you are ragging on the official Whitney Houston thread here on JUB not getting much action, Whitney is being discussed on The Huffiington Post every other week or whenever new news breaks about her....and CNN is carrying a "Whitney's comeback to the big screen" story....and so is E! News and Fox news. With many comments on each new story that they report about her. With most of the readers getting excited for her return (again).

The fact that she is way past her best is not the point. Madonna, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin ect -- all the big divas are ALL way past their best. Just because an artist has reached their peak and is 'past their best' doesn't mean they just go die somewhere and stop working altogether. Lol. You say its time to move on when her latest album was #1 and sold more than most of the hot newer singers' albums did. That's not grounds to "move on"...lol

And yes, her personal issues did take a good toll on her. And the media covers a variety of artists that are still relevant enough to be still covered/talked about today...Whitney obviously still is. You don't see Stephanie Mills, Donna Summer, Tina Turner, Jermaine Jackson, LaToya Jackson (when it's not regarding Michael Jackson, that is) in the news in the media every other week because most of the general public simply doesn't care to talk about them all the time like they would Whitney Houston, Madonna who are still relevant enough to report on because they still spark interest. The media doesn't always stay reporting on something/someone that's irrelevant. Irrelevant people don't catch headlines or aren't newsworthy at all.

The fact that she is covered alot in the media speaks for her relevancy and how much of a big deal she STILL is. Doesn't matter how much you try to water it down. The media simply doesn't cover things that THE VIEWERS don't respond to or care about. This is why Beyonce is always in the news and an indie singer isn't. People respond to Beyonce and care about her because she is a big deal and newsworthy to people. That's how it is in the media. Whitney's stories/headlines get a lot of traction and attention, because people show interest in them. Point blank.

Whitney's Oprah interview was the highest rated show of Oprah's show in YEARS. People show interest in her! No matter which way you want to slice it. When Whitney appeared on the X-Factor just last year, it was their highest rated show in the show's history! That's the facts. Whitney Houston is very much still a big deal. "Washed up", past her best, "irrelevant" or whatever her dislikers want to call her. She still pulls in high ratings, huge numbers and huge interest from people.

Notice the comment I made above. Some artists I like have suffered problems in their personal and public lives... it still doesn't detract from the impact they have had.

But anyways looking back at who won the awards... Adele winning all of those... seriously Adele? The same one that is destroying her own career through cigarettes and booze? Perfect example to set for other artists.

J Lo winning over Enrique and Pitbull just sums it up for me... another reason why I don't watch these shows. And AMA... what a joke on the Latin artists there. Why don't you choose better ones that really made an impact in Latin music? Latin Shows will give awards to people like Calle 13, Wisin Yandel, and Chino Y Nacho, but the AMA... forget about it. I appreciate Enrique and Pitbull plenty... but they aren't the best. And J Lo... well... I like her, but come on now...
