WOW- Lord Grantham is an all time fuck up- he can't manage an estate, he loses his wife's entire fortune and he lets a hack kill his daughter....Lady Grantham needs to pop a cap in his snotty ass!!!!!
My boyfriend turned me onto Downtow Abbey and now I'm completely hooked on it. And isn't Thomas (Rob-James Collier) dreamy? And God how I'd love to visit Highclere Castle.
Huge fan. I've finished all three seasons and wish there were more.
I have not started on the third season yet. Did you watch the Christmas specials? I need to catch up with the season 2 Christmas special before I start on my season three. Then I will watch the season 3 Christmas special bring myself up to date.
Highclere is the home of the Canarvans the then Lord Canarvan Funded the finding of King Tut's tomb. Among other things is a very large collection from there in this home which is Humongous!
I am a devotee, but I have both a weakness for costume dramas in general, as well as Maggie Smith's work. To her credit, she has taken a caricature and made it a source of comic relief, as per written, but I prefer her in roles that are more robust, like the sister in Ladies in Lavender. After such a long career, I guess I'm thrilled she is yet finding work. It would be much harder this side of the pond.
As in all such series, the subplots are what make it worth tuning in. The men aren't very attractive to me in this series, but they aren't toads either.
Not sure if you really need to watch season 2 to follow 3...they really don't use much of it- it's getting infuriating that they haven't said a thing about Mary and the Turkish diplomat- for 2 years, that's all we heard- how it would ruin Mary- and now- NOTHING....
Um, if you actually paid attention [I guess this was mum in the US] but the actor that was playing Matthew said that season 3 was his last one. The problem is, he stated that publicly so they killed him off in the most deus ex machina way possible. Dame Maggie Smith said that next season will be her last one and the show SHOULD honestly just wrap up at that point. The plot points now are already so absurd that Julian Fellowes should attempt salvage his reputation. The last holiday especial apparently was a direct ripoff of his previous movie, Gosford Park.

Yup, I watched the Xmas specials as well. The way they got rid of one character in the X-mas finale (I won't spoil it for anyone that hasn't seen it yet) was downright silly (if all too predictable).

The season 3 holiday special was no where near as good as the season 2 one. Season 3's was a whole lotta nothing.
It should start in September like it did last year.....Anyone else think season 3 was not as good as 1 or 2???? There were too many inconsistencies- it's like the writers forgot what they wrote last year....Edith telling her editor she thinks it repugnant for a married man to flirt with her....well- she didn't mind making out with the married farmer during season 2....

I really enjoy Maggie Smith's work. Ladies in Lavender was a wonderful movie. A Room with a View is one of my favorite movies ever. I really enjoy Forster's work.

Ahhh yes! A Room with a View - one of my top favorites too. So many great scenes. "Oh, poor Charlotte!" lol
I just started watching Downton Abbey about a month or so ago. Almost finished with season 2 now. Liked season 1. Love season 2. I hope 3 is as good as 2. I'm actually really surprised that I like this show so much. It is exceptionally produced.
sorry- it's not- a lot of contradictions/stories left unanswered from season 1 and 2- 1 particular story they harped on for 2 years just vanishes without a word.....
I get a feeling that Season 4 (supposedly the final season) won't even come out? Weren't there at least a few main characters (the actors) leaving the show due to other obligations/desires?
