I have a new favorite TV show, and a new favorite TV character, although I wouldn't say I love her with my heart and soul. The TV show is Gravity Falls, and the character is named Mabel. I won't post a picture or youtube link, because she's twelve. (Although she's animated, so maybe that's OK?)

What do I like about her? I've always had a soft spot for characters that some might quickly dismiss as "dumb", but upon closer examination, they're what you might call "differently smart". Gracie Allen is sort of a prototype. I also enjoyed Wildcat from the Talespin cartoon. Upon finding something refurbished extremely well, I say it's "good as pretty and twice as new", which I copped from him.



Mabel's in the same league, I think. She sort of wanders to the beat of her own mp3 player. Lots of what she does seems either a bit simple or a bit out there (or both, like when she successfully Bedazzled her face). She wears some weird sweaters - the ones below are just from the first ten episodes or so, and the "Mabel" one in the lower left actually plugs in. She wins a pig, names it Waddles, and enjoys dressing him up. And despite everything that's going on in Gravity Falls (lots of weird shit), she's nearly always happy.
