I quit smoking back in February, and right about that time my video card went out on my computer. I used to sit at the computer and smoke all the time. I knew I had to change my habits in order to not smoke again. I used the experience as an opportunity to change some bad habits. Now, instead of coming to the computer and smoking after dinner, I go brush and floss and go out for a walk. Being forced away from the computer got me out of the house more, and I think that was a good thing. I've been out doing things, working in the yard, and enjoying life.

Now that the major urge to smoke is gone and I've got a new video card, I've been able to try and balance the two. I probably won't be on here as much as I used to be, but I should at least be here regularly.

A friend once remarked about making lemonade out of sour lemons, and that's what I think I've done. I probably could have saved up the $100 for the video card earlier, but if I had I don't know how successful I would have been with stopping smoking.

I was able to check email on occasion and was able to chat with some of you all. But the computer just crashed whenever I went to any graphics intensive site.

I've been bartending at the local horse track this month and made some extra cash, so I was able to get the new video card without any problem. I really don't know how successful I would have been if I had had that temptation of going online and smoking. Sitting in this chair is where I had the most powerful urge to smoke. Now, I just light a candle and enjoy the nice smells. I cleaned the room up and it's like a new place.

It was just stupid of me to continue smoking after the heart attack a few years ago. No one that carries nitroglycerin around in his pocket everyday has any business smoking, and I finally acted on that.

I've gained about 5 or 10 pounds, so my next mission is to get a bicycle to try and work some of that extra weight off. I think most people who quit smoking gain some weight, and now I want to get that off of me.

It'll take me a while to catch up on everything here, but I'm looking forward to doing that. I haven't had a chance to catch up on my PMs yet, but will do so in the days to come.

Up until this third page of this thread, people were conducting what for the most part was a fairly reasonable and reasoned discussion, exchanging the opinions they have on a particular issue. Not everyone saw this issue in the same way, nor did everyone agree. But for the most part -- with one notable exception -- people were managing to voice their opinions without resorting to attacking each other, or to exchanging slurs. That one noted exception was, as it happens, given a short vacation from Hot Topics about 24 hours before the current derailment of this thread.

People can have differences of opinion on an issue, and they can exchange those opinions with one another without resorting to name-calling or personal attacks. It is called "conversation", and it was rolling along in a fairly decent fashion ... until this third page.

I am sorry, but we are not in the business of stifling the expression of peoples' opinions about issues, nor of censoring them and preventing them from trying to hold a reasonable dialogue about an idea or perception, simply because one or more people might find that idea or issue or perception upsetting for whatever personal reason he or she may have.

It was -- up until this page -- simply a discussion. I would hope it could return to that fairly reasonable discussion, if people have anything left to discuss on the issue at present. There was little animosity, and there were no personal attacks. The only attacks which I see are on this page, and are directed against the moderators and administrators of these boards. I would hope those would cease. Trying to force an issue out of public view in this way, trying to prevent any discussion of the matter, and trying to force censorship on the exchange of personal opinions, simply because you have problems with those ideas or opinions, isn't the way to go.

I thought it would be nice to mention some people that you miss seeing on here. There's been a lot of turnover ..... some of our favorite people aren't posting anymore.

This isn't so much a "whine", "whine", "whine' thread - we've done that to death. Rather, this is just a shout out to the people you miss - hopefully some of them might see it and rejoin us.

Even with all the new gadgetry and newfangled gadgets on here, the place still isn't the same. The people make this place rock. And right now there's a whole lot of people that I miss!

SteveNavy2003 has been deployed to Iraq, and made a thread announcing his departure in January. He expects to be back sometimes around October, but you never can tell with the military.

We had many chats before the deployment and he shared his private email addy with several of us. He said he would keep in touch, but we haven't heard back from him nor his partner.

If anyone has heard anyone please let one of the mods know. I'm sure he has other things to do than check email, and he may not have email access after all. Of course he is family and we worry.

Having SteveNavy2003 as a CE&P Moderator was/is something we were proud of, and we look forward to him returning back to us safely.

I wanted to point out that just because a MOD says it happened one way or the other,doesnt mean I have to believe it.He had been abused for along time,and it is no wonder his last few posts and the response he got after being here a LONG time were heated.

Hmm. That's just half the story!! As I vaguely recall there might have been some heated conversation between him and mod that might have been the impetus to leave but that really doesn't tell you any reason why he is not here now. He returned under a new username (which has definitely happened around here!) and was happily posting away with no problems until one day when he posted in the open forums that he is age 16! Then he was permanently banned, and further incarnations of him subsequently banned as well!
