Very gothic pic. Me likes. Do you sell your work?

OTOH, why does this picture remind me so much of Jesus and the criminal who was redeemed? Perhaps the wire crown, but IDK...

I've never used acrylics before, so I thought I'd do a bit of practice seeing how colours work (or don't). Once I get the hang of them, I think I'm going to enjoy it as much as drawing.

Quasar where did you learn to paint and draw so beautifully?

I am very jealous of people who can draw and create art. I can't do any of that well.

^ Other than studying art at school until I was 18, I'm self-taught. One of my grandma's aunts was an artist apparently and moved to France in the 1920s so we think I inherited my artistic streak from her. My youngest nephew who's 12 is showing great promise - his graffitti art is fantastic.

It's early days with my painting at the moment, lots of frustration in learning techniques etc. The triptych above is based on another artist's painting, which is how I learn how to acheive certain effects and brushstrokes etc. If I tried to do something 'out of thin air', then I'd only paint within my comfort zone and not learn anything.

Would you say that drawing is something either you can or cannot do?

I am trying to draw (I don't know how to teach myself) but I can't. It's really frustrating because I wish to express myself artistically.

Personally, yes, I think anyone can be taught how to draw and paint. We were taught how to read, write and use computers, and drawing is simply a way of stringing shapes together and adding shade - in the same way we would construct a sentence and add verbs and adjectives to complete or enhance what we are trying to portray!

As with anything, there are rules to follow, and lots of simple tricks that you learn as you go along. I'd highly recommend heading to a bookshop or library - there are many books out there dealing with the basics. Don't be put off by thinking they're very childlike in their presentation (most of the first few pages will be full of circles, squares, triangles, ellipses etc because thats basically how all subjects can be broken down!

These sites are also packed with free demos and tutorials. Another great thing about drawing, is that it can be very relaxing.

I hope so,I don't always care for your subject matter but your ART work is
    aces.

Hey, I often read books I don't 'like' parts of and watch movies that are that
way too. The artist/s are the catalyst and what they do with the medium to
create the product, regardless of medium.

I won't gush here, just know I look forward to your future works...No, not look,
    eagerly anticipate.

I posted some work by Michael F. Brown, I thought similar to what you are doing. You might get some good tips from him on selling your artwork.

    but WTF this turned into?

Even my teacher accepted it with a 'squamish' face

I guess, there are 2 artistic outlets that you can't lie for whom you really are: painting & music.

I agree that sometimes using basic writting pen could give broad range of textures..I can't draw like this digitally, wacom tablet doesn't has same richness of texture and pressure like a regular writting pen

^Thanks, but you haven't seen me attempting 3D and shadow drawing. Total disaster of the century

My friend can actually draw using that device. He adjusts the texture by playing the saturation of the pen (if I hear it correctly) and the texture by changing the size of the pen.

My experiment with it resulted in fiasco

I would love something similar to this but with cherry-blossom tree's. It would probably defeat the purpose of how you have constructed the painting though.

There's a lot of great work in this thread. I'm impressed.

I've tried to take up drawing a few times. The habit never sticks though because I manage to convince myself that I suck at it. It's been on my mind lately to break out the art supplies and try again.

For the sake of contributing, here's a bunny I did in Paint once. There was a reason for drawing it, but I can't remember what it was.

Fabulous work!! Let's keep this thread alive

Primitive Abstract Expressionism is what I do. Here's one of my latest small canvases, "Jazzz Night" - pastel and oil stick on canvas.

(sorry for the less than favourable lighting)

That's definitely can sell because its decorative value. If I have an appropriate living room that match with the painting, I'll buy it from you ^^

Vaguely it looks like a man naked in the sandstorm.

I personally think it's perfect and need not any additional strokes

The last image I uploaded here is actually B&W with a tint of blue, and it's the lighting under which the picture was taken. It was only after I finished the background that I realized what I had done....It was totally unintentional.

There are many of us who have the Natural raw talent for drawing and painting, and studying art is just a way improving on what comes natural to us.
