Nice idea for a thread. BostonPirate had started a similar one a while ago which I thought was pretty fun - it was cool to see other peoples interests and tastes. Construct introduced me to BWO, so that was an extra bonus.

My pleasure. So to continue in a similar vein, I'll show you all a group formed by the same musician who formed BWO, Alexander Bard.

Most of the groups Bard have produced mostly Euro-pop music--mostly a sort of bouncy techno dance music that is the successor to groups like ABBA. The startling exception is Vacuum. Vacuum are Alexander Bard, Marina Schiptjenko, and vocalist Mattias Lindblom. Some of the songs may sound like pop (well, sort of), but they're are much heavier. For example, "Pride in My Religion" has the Euro-pop form, but the feel (for lack of a better word) is miles away from it.

Contrast that with BWO's "The Bells of Freedom." BWO (and Euro-pop generally) is light even when it's topical. BWO are Alexander and Marina with vocalist Martin Rolinski. Jean-Pierre Barda and Dominika Peczynski (from Army of Lovers, an earlier Bard-originated group) make cameo appearances in this video.

(Meh! I hate it when embedding is disabled. Just go ahead and click the link to see it on YouTube.)

I guess here is where I show you all this idiotically gay video of Magnus Carlsson (a former member of Alcazar). I can hardly imagine a vapid song, but it's so insanely catchy I can't get it out of my head for days at a time. I love it. (And yes, Magnus really is gay.)

I've already shown it to BostonPirate and centexfarmer, and they both got a kick out of it.

As for a less politically motivated song, I would love to introduce you a band, the Hush Sound. As anyone who knows me personally, I am a sucker for any "piano rock" band. This is the best "clean" version I could find on youtube (stupid youtube banning songs). The album version is amazing and you could try listening to it here.

We've got a request. Thanks. Here are a couple more. BWO started out as Bodies Without Organs (a term Alexander picked up from Gilles Deleuze meaning unrealized human potentiality), but they shortened their name to BWO after their first album. That should help explain the references in "Conquering America." (You'll have to click the links on both of these, too. It seems the crispest videos of BWO's songs are embedding disabled.)

And to show what a ballad from BWO is like, this one is really nice. It's a great song as well as a powerful video.

You're right. The sound on the video is awful. I'm really glad you included the link for the audio only. It's really beautiful. I like it. Thank you.

Not like the rest of the videos here, but still my music of choice. (certified music teacher, here, so not surprising that my favorite type of music is what I also plan to teach)

Quick background of the video: Made up of over 2000 youtube submissions from 50 countries to the composer/conductor that wrote the piece, then stitched together into a 'virtual choir'. This concept, and its execution, is actually making some pretty big waves in educational circles, as well as with the 'new media' community.

It's an amazing video, and the music is beautiful. I was about to ask about how it was done, but I decided to do a little looking around first. I noticed the ear gear on the singers, but I wanted more. Anyway, I found this vid of Whitacre explaining a little about his project and what he wanted it to do.

Thanks for introducing us to Eric Whitacre.

    Re: JUB CE+P Music Choice

JB3's video brought to mind another even huger project that has fascinated me for most of its life--Longplayer. Let's hear from its webpage.

Longplayer is a one thousand year long musical composition. It began playing at midnight on the 31st of December 1999, and will continue to play without repetition until the last moment of 2999, at which point it will complete its cycle and begin again. Conceived and composed by Jem Finer, it was originally produced as an Artangel commission, and is now in the care of the Longplayer Trust.

Longplayer can be heard in the lighthouse at Trinity Buoy Wharf, London, where it has been playing since it began. It can also be heard at several other listening posts around the world, and globally via a live stream on the Internet.

Longplayer is composed for singing bowls – an ancient type of standing bell – which can be played by both humans and machines, and whose resonances can be very accurately reproduced in recorded form. It is designed to be adaptable to unforeseeable changes in its technological and social environments, and to endure in the long-term as a self-sustaining institution.
I heard about it on NPR soon after it began, and I've been checking in on it from time to time ever since. I sometimes like having it on as ambient sound when I'm alone.

If this has made you curious, I encourage you to read more about it on its webpage.

    http://longplayer.org/what/overview.php

You can listen to it on a live feed here:

I like most kinds of music. This is Kastelruther Spatzen, a folk group from the South Tyrol. I saw them live a couple of summers ago in Freiburg im Breisgau and they were quite fab.

Full disclosure...Tim's my cousin. Still, I think he's tremendously talented...Michael Bublé seems to agree; he's one of Tim's biggest fans, and is in the process of recording some of his tunes. Tim has a lot of fans in the bear community, as well. He's very happily hetero, but enjoys the attention from the guys!

I know that we are more used to calling each other out here in CE&P - but a more lighthearted, easy-going, thread like this one is welcome here on this forum as far as I am concerned. Despite our mutual disagreements I think we are all pretty much on the same side. That being said:

i'm big into electronic music. one of my favorite groups, Daft Punk, did a music video called Interstella 5555 which is a feature-length anime that was written together with one of their albums.

the music, the animation, and the story are all really well done and it makes for a great watch imo.

Thought this might be a good time to post the chorale finale of the 4th movement Beethoven's 9th Symphony, the famous "Ode to Joy." Beethoven set Schiller's poem, a celebration of unity and universal brotherhood, to music and was the first composer, I believe, to include choral music in a symphony. Beethoven was stone deaf when he wrote the symphony, one of the most beautiful pieces ever written I believe. At the premier, one of the singers had to turn Beethoven around to witness the wild acclaim from the audience, because he could not hear their ovation.

Here it is being conducted by the great Italian conductor, Arturo Toscanini.

Bruce did this song - in NYC - outside

for the VMAs - months after the tragedy of 911

    still gives me goosebumps

    will never forget that day

and this song has special meaning to me

tribute to the heroes of 911

We're gonna sit down and have ourselves a drink! And after we're done - after *I'm* done, you can run upstairs and take whichever one of them little pills makes you feel the best~Dolores Claiborne

    For the music?

Alright, dark dance floor, a few laser lights, and the following song starts playing.

As soon as the chorus starts, confetti cannons go off, and I'm bumping uglies on the dance floor with some young hottie that I just met:

    Color me Gay!

Seriously, I really like this song!
Never regret anything, because in that moment it's exactly what you wanted.
