    Ok then.

The only women in the top ten singles of all time were the ones who sang lines in "we are the world."

    The other nine... All men.

    Sorry. Women all suck.
    Gentlemen.... Thank you.

    - The person with the most top 10 singles on the Hot 100 is a woman.
    - The person with the most #1s on the Hot 100 as a soloist is a woman.
    - The most successful single of the 2000's was by a woman.
    - The top 4 artists of 2011 were women. There were more women than men in the top 10 (6 women to 4 men)
    - Three of the top 5 singles of 2011 were by women. The #1 single of 2011 was also by a woman.
    - Seven of the top 10 albums of 2011 were by women. The #1, #2, and #3 albums were all by women.
    - The highest grossing tour of all time by a soloist is by a woman.
    - Women are leading the Billboard Hot 100 and 200 at this moment.
    - The most weeks lodged at #1 by an album is 20 weeks. Both these albums are by women.

Records are made to be broken. Women are far more relevant in music now and it will only be a matter of time before they rewrite history and break the records.

Are you people really all that fucking thick?

Is my sarcasm THAT hard to grasp or are you all just... dense?

OK...let's break this down for the "slower" members of our community.

    1) I've been saying for ages that "popular" doesn't mean "good" and that "good" won't always be "popular" when it comes to music. Most of my favorite bands have never had a record on any chart in north america.

    2) Chart positions do not matter at all. There is not such a thing as a "good" song... just songs that people like and people don't.

    3) When I answer silly posts like "Katy Perry sold more records than Lady Gaga so she's better than Lady Gaga' with equally silly posts like "there hasn't been a good album since Millennium by the Backstreet Boys," I shouldn't have to haul out that animated gif of Jake Gyllenhall laughing. And even when I do, some people are still too dense to realize it's a "joke" and not to be taken seriously.

    4) I posted a very praise-worthy thing about how important Madonna was to pop music and culture and I think I also pointed out that one of the two highest-selling artists in (world) history is a Greek woman named Nana Moskouri who most people in America have never heard of and would confuse with Andrea Martin's character in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" or maybe Tina Fey.
    Gentlemen.... Thank you.

I think you are slow to think we can identify a flat out statement, with no sense of humor as sarcastic. Work on your sarcasm skills before you post. Sarcasm works best verbal and visual.

The best proof of this is to look at the Billboard 2011 year end charts.

Best Artists on Billboard (factoring in everything they did in 2011):
You rely on statistical manipulation to support your weak argument. You don't take into account total album sales, and instead you rely on Billboard charts.

Both Rihanna and Katy Perry beat GaGa in 2011. Your claim that album sales are the most important is wrong. Because if it was all about album sales GaGa would have outranked them. But she can't because her singles performed nowhere as good as Rihanna or Katy singles.
No it's not. Everything you have posted is either an inaccuracy or a gross misrepresentation of the facts. You haven't posted anything factual, besides some statistical manipulation to support your own biases. Singles don't matter. In the end, total album sales do because they are the real money maker... especially in a market that has experienced trouble regarding online piracy, filesharing, etc.

That, along with the fact that both Katy Perry and Rihanna ranked Higher than GaGa on the year end Hot 100 list is all the proof I need to back my claim. They were far more successful than GaGa in 2011.
You haven't backed your claims though. you rely on statistical manipulation and a twisting of facts. And who was talking about Rihanna? Wasn't she the one that had to cancel concerts? And her last CD sales were dismal. As of this month "Talk That Talk" only has sold 620,000 copies in the United States (Wikipedia). It didn't even get platinum in the United States. Loud is from 2010 therefore is not relevant to this discussion.

This week on the Billboard 200 Katy Perry's Teenage Dream outranks Lady GaGa's Born This Way. Katy Perry is at #61 and GaGa is at #64. LOL!
Who cares? Katy Perry's album has been out longer, yet sold less in the long run. That's why you refuse to look at the facts and your argument is based entirely on manipulation.

And funny how you should say that you don't hear Katy on the radio anymore when The One That Got Away is still #5 on radio songs. Lady GaGa who you claim gets played a lot on radio does not even have 1 song charting in the top 40 radio songs.

    Yea, facts.
    Again mere opinion from you.

Yeah, no facts in your post once again. But hey keep defending the cheap knock off Katy Perry. What next? A defense for Nicki Minaj's crap performance at the grammy's?

You have me defending someone I don't even listen to all that much and don't even follow that much.

So.... you actually thought I was serious when I said that MCHammer was one of the best artists ever and that the last "good" album was in 1999 by the Backstreet Boys?

    I see.

Is your ego that big that you think people pay attention to everything you post? Or are you delusional?

But the fact that you are a very angry person and you would think all women suck is very believable.

Almost 30 years after her arrival on Billboard's charts, Madonna continues to feel L-U-V from her fans. On this week's Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, her latest single, "Give Me All Your Luvin'," featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., bounds 13-10 in its second chart week.

The first single from Madonna's 12th studio album, "MDNA," due March 26 (which sports an "L-U-V, Madonna!" cheerleader chant), becomes her 38th Hot 100 top 10, pushing her further ahead of runners-up the Beatles (34).

Madonna first reached the chart's top tier the week of June 16, 1984, when "Borderline" rose to its No. 10 peak. She had last ranked in the region with "4 Minutes," featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, the week of June 28, 2008.

Here is a look at the artists with the most top 10 songs in the Hot 100's 53-year history:

    38 -- Madonna
    34 -- the Beatles
    28 -- Michael Jackson
    28 -- Stevie Wonder
    27 -- Mariah Carey
    27 -- Janet Jackson
    27 -- Elton John
25 -- Elvis Presley (whose career predates the chart's Aug. 4, 1958, inception)
    23 -- Whitney Houston
    23 -- the Rolling Stones

I wonder if there are any other collaborations that we aren't aware of yet. It would have made my life if Nelly did a rap on one of her songs.

It always surprises me when I see how many Top 10 hits Mariah & Janet have had. I can only remember about a half dozen or so of Janet's songs (from her first two albums), and maybe three of Mariah's (one of those is her cover of "Without You," and another is "All I Want For Christmas Is You").

Guy Oseary tweets that fashion photographers Mert and Marcus will be directing Madonna's "Girls Gone Wild" music video.

should be interesting...but I hope it's not a typical Madonna dancing around in different changes of wardrobe video like "Give it to Me" was.

So--just for fun...which songs do you guys predict/think will end up being your favorites?

I'm thinking I'll love all the Orbit tracks (Gang Bang, Some Girls, I'm a Sinner, Falling Free, and Love Spent). Masterpiece is somewhat growing on me already.

My husband LOVES Masterpiece. Which is bizarre because he is normally all about dance tracks. I love GMAYL, which is funny because I normally go for the ballads.

I suspect I'll also be partial towards the Orbit tracks.

LOL you're so wrong for that.

But I understand where you're coming from. I'm hoping she has some real music on this album. I can't have another situation like HC, in which I have to force myself to like the songs.

It's almost as if I'm noticing her music becoming progressively juvenile as she ages. I'm not saying she needs to be singing Celine Dion type ballads, but damn...L-U-V Madonna! really?

Yeah, that's an interesting comment. I think it might be a combination of things - some music lovers/critics/purists insist that today's pop/dance music is getting more simplistic/inane as an overall trend, although it can be hard to separate that out from the "Well back in my day...!" arguments of those people just growing older and their nostalgia for the sound of that time. So we may not expect something as sophisticated as the "Ray of Light" album which is over a decade old, or even some of her earlier stuff (think of the "Like A Prayer" album - ambitious and all over the map in terms of influences/styles/artistic chances).

I wonder if "Ray of Light" (as textured and wonderful as it is) would totally bomb if it were to come out today because the public is used to Lady Gaga or Katy Perry or Justin Bieber with relatively repetitive, simple, straight-ahead songs that are based on repetition, and not long, lilting melodies or dense or unusual textures/instrumentation. Lady Gaga may take chances artistically with her look or personas, but does she take those same chances musically?

The second thing also could be that in her/her producers' calculated attempt to appeal to a younger audience, they're approaching the music in this way - what they believe the current sound/trends are, as my paragraph above - and have slightly misstepped/misjudged it. Sort of like a 40-something soccer Mom trying to be completely cool with her teenage daughter's friends and missing the trends, lol. But I would have to give Madonna more credit than that because she's had longevity in the business and that doesn't come from misjudging any sort of trend.

I definitely think Madonna's dumber lyrics since COADF have been a combination of her trying to play it safe after American Life flopped, her being afraid of her own aging, and since HC her not being as into music itself compared to all of the other things going on in her life (divorce, adoption, boy toys, directing movies, fashion lines, etc).

Madonna's "Give Me All Your Luvin'," featuring Minaj and M.I.A., opened at No. 13. (After lifting to No. 10 last week, becoming Madonna's record-extending 38th top 10, "Luvin' " plummets to No. 39 this week).

Yeah, I wasn't trying to be mean or anything. It's just something that I've noticed since COADF.

I am pretty sure I'm not in the hardcore "back in the day" crowd--because I do think some music of today is really good...even some of the typical pop. BUT--Madonna can do much better (in my opinion) than she's doing. I mean, some of this stuff is embarrassing to me. Maybe she's just having fun...but I don't know. I think she's trying to hard to fit the "time", so to speak.

    basically...what you said here:

I know I sound like the crabby person who wants her to release Ray of Light pt. 2 (that would be wonderful...lol), but I just think she's capable of better music than Avril Lavigne type b-sides.

that being said--I have yet to hear the rest of the upcoming album, so I'll cool my boots until then. Again, I still love her to death, but I just want her to bring her A-game.

Lady Gaga may take chances artistically with her look or personas, but does she take those same chances musically?
hmmm...I think the "Ray of Light" single would do fine today, but the rest of the album...not so much.

I think you're totally correct in your bit about Lady Gaga. I don't think she takes any chances at all musically. Her music is very typical and ordinary for the time, in my opinion. As for her 'art'...yeah, she's out there with it...no doubt.

hope my ramblings made sense. I had a little vodka this evening.

btw...I see that "Girls Gone Wild" will have a lyric video on VEVO tomorrow!

GMAYL really did not have a long shelf life at all. I think a lot of hardcore fans accepted that last week was going to be her peak because the single hasn't been selling as much. But, hey, I'm glad she was able to squeeze another top ten out of a song that leaked back in NOVEMBER.

It would have really sucked for her if she got #11 last week, meaning she would have been in the top ten but was bumped because of I Will Always Love You... lol.

The Queen of Pop has since dismissed rumours of a duet with Brit, telling Ryan Seacrest that she has not teamed up with Spears on her forthcoming record.

When asked about the allegations, the 53-year old replied: "Is Britney on what track? No, it's just little old me. She could come on stage and perform it with me if she wants."

I missed this earlier. I think you're right as well. It does seem that on top of trying to stay hip and 'in', she's been trying to do a million other things besides making music. I do admire her hard work and multitasking, perfectionist attitude. It's inspiring to see someone taking on so much.

That's true. Especially considering the song itself...

Madonna's second single from forthcoming album MDNA - "Girl Gone Wild"

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBMiYJ7kzbI[/ame]

On first listen, I like it more than Give Me All Your Luvin'. It's more dance oriented, a genre of music I really like (dance pop).

It reminds me a bit of "Hung Up" a few years ago or something like a faster paced "Music".

    Thoughts?

    Pressing play.

Praying to the Lords of Kobol it's better than GMAYL. Because I am so not impressed with that first single.

    I don't like it.

I just hope this isn't a William Orbit track.

I actually have it on repeat now I really like it. It's insanely catchy. She could use better lyrics though.

Lately it feels like she doesn't try anymore with her music. Then again with all the millions she rakes in from her concerts and what not she doesn't need to...

    I'm disappointed, again.

I do really like 'Masterpiece' though.

A lot of tracks on this album. I'm sure I'll really like at least one more.

I wasn't able to get tickets today for her concert. I could have bought one ticket but there wasn't two together. I think if I didn't dislike her first single so much I may have just bought one ticket and gone. I bet years from now this will be the CD she hated the most and regrets. I think she rushed it and caved in to try and make radio friendly hits. I have loved Madonna all my life but I am not blind to bad music when I hear it.

ok i like 'give me all your luvin' and 'masterpiece', but this just sound like the cheapest, most generic kind of dance-pop.

"Girls Gone Wild" sounds like the Benny Benassi remix of "Celebration". It's also reminiscent of Usher's "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love". I agree it's generic, but I can't help but enjoy it. I like a good unpretentious pop/dance single, something Lady GaGa has lost her knack for recently. I would like some more substance from Madge, something more innovative and interesting. But she the Queen, and there's nothing more to prove.
