I too want to see every child have 3 good meals a day and two loving parents.........in a real world scenario.....

I guess then it's OK to have two sets of laws, one for the regular people and the other for the "rich and famous"!

So, Madonna and Guy go into a poverished African country and line up all the baby boy's (NO girls) and select the prettiest boy and take off back to London to raise their child with a silver spoon in his mouth.......????

No birth certificate, no pass port or any other document to verify this boy child's existence???

I guess she then goes to her high-priced lawyers and they draw up a legit birth certificate for the little boy??

    Case closed??
One day Gay people WILL have the same Civil Rights once granted to all peoples regardless of the color of their skin, sex or sexual orientation....Shall we wait or should we demand those rights?

    Re:

    Chicago Sun-Times

Don't preach to Madonna about adoption

    October 13, 2006
    BY NEIL STEINBERG Sun-Times Columnist

    Opening shot

Children should be raised by both parents, of course, brought up in loving, culturally sensitive environments, in the communities in which they were born.

They should also have a pony, because keeping a pony is a lot of fun and teaches responsibility. Two ponies, actually, a matched set, so the first pony can rest while the other . . .

Sorry. The second sentiment is fanciful I admit, reflecting an idealized world. But so is the first. Most kids don't have ponies and many don't live with both parents. Millions upon millions don't even have one.

Thus a pox on critics of Madonna, such as the shrill she-beast Andrea Peyser at the New York Post, who called the star's adoption of an African toddler a "freakish slave auction."

Don't get me wrong -- I can sneer at Madonna's endless reign as a pop queen as well as the next guy. I just don't see how not thinking much of "Papa, Don't Preach" translates into ridiculing the idea of international adoption because it deviates from some notion of how things would be in a perfect world.

The world as it is needs more adoptive parents, not fewer. Anybody who wants to care for a stranger's child should get a medal, and those who question them -- bureaucrats with more local pride than human pity, advocates looking to score a point on the endless racial tug-of-war, news harpies who will say anything that catches attention -- should be ashamed of themselves.

I remember when Anne and Ed Burke were being beaten up by a few Chicago activists exercised that they had dared to adopt a black child damaged by his mother's crack cocaine use. Their critics had no idea what they were talking about -- didn't realize that the Burkes had previously adopted three children -- yet cooked up all kinds of baseless accusations and preened in the spotlight, until they got bored and went away.

But the Burkes didn't get bored -- they remain as they always were, loving parents to the boy, quietly, behind the scenes.

You can never accuse Madonna of being quiet. But to damn her for outrageousness out of one corner of your mouth and then damn her for embracing motherhood out of the other is both hypocritical and wrong. Even stars get to have a private life, whether we like it or not. And nobody adopts a child as a PR gimmick, and accusing someone of doing so says more about the accuser than anyone else.

NBC to air Madonna Crucifixion Scene

After announcing they would not air the Christian-bashing crucifixion scene on its upcoming Madonna TV program, American Family Association reports that NBC executives have again changed their minds. NBC, also, recently ordered Christian Bible verses and references to Christianity and God removed from its children’s television program “Veggie Tales”.
NBC Executive Kevin Reilly said: “We [NBC] viewed it and didn't see it as being inappropriate."

Re: Madonna Adopts African Baby-baby To Write Sequel To Mommie Dearest In Twenty Year

Let's hope he will become a good-looking guy with good genetics and will be able to stand above the racism in the white world. It would be a shame if her offspring couldn't keep up with her looks and be famous, wouldn't it?

    Another Plague Grips Africa: Madonna

    Me Madonna, you baby
The pop star's adoption is a fairytale come true . . . at least for someone

    MARGARET WENTE

Who among us does not feel pity for the plight of Africa? Its problems seem overwhelming and intractable. Its people endure wars, disease, and famine. And now, just when it seems the situation could scarcely get worse, Africa has suffered another blow.

    Madonna came to town.

Last seen hanging from a crucifix, the world's most overrated pop star is the latest in a long line of celebrities who have discovered the Dark Continent, and, like Livingstone before them, are determined to save it. Madonna is also taking home a souvenir -- a cute dark-skinned adopted baby. Dark-skinned babies (along with Birkin bags) are the latest must-have celebrity accessory. Too bad Angelina Jolie can't sue for storyline appropriation.

"For the last few years -- now that I have children and now that I have what I consider to be a better perspective on life -- I have felt responsible for the children of the world," Madonna modestly revealed. And so she has decided to devote a few million dollars of her sizable fortune to building orphanages in Malawi. Why Malawi? Why not? Namibia was taken. And George Clooney has the franchise on Darfur.
To be sure, it's hard to find a country that's worse off than AIDS-ravaged Malawi, where the annual per-capita income hovers around $200 a year. Few people there had heard of Madonna before she descended from the skies in her private jet, like a toned and buff dea ex machina. But even before she landed, rumours had begun to sweep the country about a famous white lady who was coming to pick out a sibling for Lourdes and Rocco. Madonna's people denied an adoption was in the works. Meanwhile, her advance team was fanning out in their SUVs (imported for the occasion) to audition suitable orphans. A local newspaper interviewed an 11-year-old girl named Mpheso, who said, "They told me I will be a friend to a white girl called 'Lodess.' "

Why is Africa the celebrity cause du jour? It can't simply be the photo ops. Maybe it's because the sufferings of Africa offer a cheap and easy way to reproach the West for its neglect and callousness (see Sir Bob Geldof, Bono, et al.) The awkward fact that Africa has gotten poorer, in spite of half-a-trillion dollars' worth of Western aid, is not allowed to spoil this narrative. Celebrity outrage would be better aimed at the kleptocrats and murderers who run Africa's thugo-cracies. But nobody would buy a concert ticket for that.

"I am African," declares Gwyneth Paltrow in a recent ad for a children's charity, in which she (and not the children) stars. In spite of the blue paint slashed across her cheek and the ethnic beads wrapped around her neck, you could have fooled me. "We are on the verge of farcical at this point," said Vanity Fair columnist Michael Wolff. "This has become just a part of the public relations play book. Everybody has a PR person and every PR person says 'which country do you want to adopt?' " And if you can't decide, you can adopt the whole darn continent.

It worked for Angelina Jolie. First she adopted a child from Ethiopa, to add to the child she'd already adopted from Cambodia. Then she decided to add her own child to her collection, and to give birth in Namibia, a scenic country previously known for its game parks. Wild lions were employed to fend off the invading paparazzi. The birth (attended by a leading Los Angeles obstetrician flown in for the occasion) was headline news around the world, and the holy trinity of Angelina, Brad and their surprisingly homely infant, Shiloh Nouvel, snagged the cover of Vanity Fair. No longer is Angelina a scheming home-wrecker. Now she is a loving mother who adopts dark-skinned orphans and gives away her money. "She is a genius at changing the narrative," said one tabloid editor. "How do you hate someone who spent Thanksgiving helping Pakistani earthquake victims?"

But let's not be cynical. The Namibians got something too -- a major tourism boost. A majority of the voters in a local radio poll said Ms. Jolie's birthday should be declared a national holiday. Only 16 per cent thought the visit was "a chance for sycophantic losers to seek fulfilment."

The visit of Madonna and her retinue has already goosed Malawi's GDP. The local people are grateful for the new orphanages, which, thanks to her spiritual interests, will have projects based on the Kabbalah. Let's also not forget the lucky little kid who won the jackpot, a one-year-old boy she has (mercifully) named David. International adoptions are against the law in Malawi, but exceptions can occasionally be made. David's birth father, a farmer whose wife died of AIDS, is very happy for his son. "Madonna promised me that as the child grows she will bring him back to visit."

Nobody but the hardest-hearted cynic could see a dark side to this fairytale come true. So what if building orphanages also happens to be good for image-polishing? Everybody wins, and the fact that Madonna is able to keep her name in the news in the lead-up to next month's TV concert special is just a happy accident. Everybody gets a happy ending, except maybe for the kids who didn't make the cut. As the bewildered girl Mpheso recalls, "They said someone would arrive soon to prepare me for the trip, but no one has come."

You guys are mean. Why can´t Madonna just want to help? Why is it that the first thing to say is that she wants the baby as an accessory? She is a good mother who teaches her children all the right things, and wants to help this boy have a future in much better conditions...maybe just maybe she fell in love with this little boy. How can you all be so insensitive? Anyway, I hope she has all the luck in going through with her plans of adopting this cutie

She fell in love? THEY HAD AUDITIONS. It wasnt about her falling in love. It was picked for her in African Child Idol. Not to mention I wouldn't exactly want her as MY mother with her reputation AND the same shit she pulls still to this day..

why doesn't she try to poop out another one herself. i am sure she could make magic work with her money and all. or maybe she's gone barren already. who knows... and who cares really?

i've just read that they have left malawi... without the baby, because they couldn't get the papers together in time or something.

Re: Another Plague Grips Africa: Madonna

Child Welfare agencies in Malawi are trying to stop the adoption going through because they do not believe it is in the best interest of the child. And the legal process for bringing a foreign baby into the UK is not straightforward either. Madonna thought that because she holds a British passport, she could simply bring the child back with her but they have to go through all sorts of legal shenanigans first. It has to be considered by the local authorities where she lives in the UK as well. Could be another 10 months before the child is cleared to come here. Unless she bends the rules some more...

And as I said elsewhere, this little boy has a father and grandparents. The father was interviewed in one of the UK papers on Sunday and from the way he tells it, he has almost been coerced into giving up his child. He cannot read or write so how is he expected to understand the enormity of giving up his only son? Apparently, Guy Richie stood at the back of the room when they first met with the boy and wouldn't interact at all. She also seems to have skipped over the fact that she is involved in the Kabbalah sect which might seem at odds with the way she has been portrayed to the boys family as a "good, Christian woman".

Hmmmm, I don't think Madonna holds a British passport.

Where did you get that information?

I can be wrong of course, but I don't think she has ever become a naturalised UK citizen.

You know Madonna's been donating and raising money for African AIDS charities for years now?

This is a horribly tactless article, and reaks of Bullshit.
It really does seem this women can't do anything without gettng criticized.
Also The father was already interviewed and the baby was already in an orphange simply because he cannot care for niether can the grandparents (I watched this on CNN) He was cool with it before. If he's not now then someone's trying to get their 15 minutes of fame.

The kid, David, has no passport.

You know, after all these, and if the thing fails, the kid is gonna be traumatised as the unwanted child. This is so sad.

I think these celebrities should do their homework before going to a country for adoption.. there are several countries - why choose one that causes so much hooha's?

Just what was reported in yesterdays Mail On Sunday. They could be wrong of course and knowing the British press they probably are.

I've just re-read the article and it says "If Madonna thinks that all she needs is a passport" so sorry, my bad.

    And sorry Madge...

Just to update, Madonna has now been granted temporary custody of the little boy. It was reported on this evenings news. She's been given an interim adoption paper or something like that so she can now care for him for the next 18 months. Effectively a fostering period after which it will be assessed for full adoption.

Re: NBC to air Madonna Crucifixion Scene

It says a lot about the intellectual limitations of the American populace that no one seems to recognize the irony in all this.

Madonna has been relentlessly "crucified" by the media for one thing or another since the day she first stepped into the limelight more than 20 years ago. And here she is being criticized and condemned yet again for "crucifying" herself in a stage performance, predictably leading to more vilification by her detractors.

Interesting that the ultra-conservatives who have a problem with the crucifixation scene in her show totally overlook the fact that the entire point of the performance is to draw attention to the widespread impact of the AIDS pandemic in Africa.

At the dawn of the AIDS epidemic in the early 80's, the kooky Christian right were quick to label it a gay disease and, under the leadership of President Ronald Reagan (or, more appropriately, the lack thereof), not one goddamn thing was done to prevent what could have been a containable and eradicable disease from growing into the worst global pandemic in human history.

How very, VERY ironic that the conservative movement continues to vilify a female pop singer for using her performance art to draw attention to an epic human tragedy that never would have existed if not for the indifference and bigotry of those criticizing her. I find that far more offensive than anything Madonna, or any celebrity, could ever do in a stage act.

So because people have suspicions on things makes them bitter and unhappy just because we don't lick the damn dirt she walks on? Thats bullshit. I think after all the bullshuit she stirred up with the crucifixion shit, shes doing YET ANOTHER publicity stunt to make her look like a decent person. Not working, in my opinion. And I'm not a bitter or unhappy person. I just think she's full of it.

I just can't stand people who have to stir up controversy and stuff JUST to get their name out there. I never claimed to like Paris Hilton. I like some of her songs, she's alright - I don't hate her or anything either. I don't technically hate Madonna either...I like her older stuff...I just don't get people who have the talent to succeed without drama, but either don't or actually have NO talent and do it to sell themselves. Regardless of what she donates, its not really honorable to me because it wasn't technically earned, in my opinion. I mean what's she gonna do next? Masturbate at the Vatican in front of everyone?

*I know people will disagree, and thats fine. But no need for fucking hate comments, people. Grow up. You know who you are.

I don't 'get' Madonna's reasoning for doing this, but hoping it'll turn out well for the kid. I'm assuming none of Madonna's kids will ever have part-time jobs or want for anything material. And, being in Great Britain, the kid will be safe from becoming a Congressional page.

The only reason I scream PUBLICITY STUNT is because people are starting to question her as a person ever since the ruffled feathers over her crucifixion thing - REGARDLESS of what she SAYS the meaning is. Cricifying yourself on a cross is NOT an appropriate way to deliver a message. It's just a bad decision.

"starting to question her as a person ever since the ruffled feathers over her crucifixion thing"

Starting? Madonna has always ruffled feathers. Her use of religion in her videos and concerts is not new. Some gossip people say she held "auditions" and you and many others are right there repeating it as fact. How do you know she just didn't feel a connection with David? How do you know she wasn't moved by the story of his parents? Instead of just giving someoen the benefit of the doubt, you are eager to believe the worst.

I don't know the facts of the situation but based on what I do know I think this is a good thing. She's drawn attention to the area, she's donated to developing the area, she's taken a child out of poverty, and she's drawing attention to the low wages people earn in that area of the world.

Attention? Madonna doesn't have to draw in a motherless child to get attention.

Well this is what she's said regarding David:

Nevertheless, we have gone about the adoption procedure according to the law like anyone else who adopts a child. Reports to the contrary are totally inaccurate. The procedure includes an 18-month evaluation period after which time we hope to make this adoption permanent.

This was not a decision or commitment that my family or I take lightly.

I am overwhelmed and inspired by my trip to Malawi and hope that it helps bring attention to how much more the world needs to do to help the children of Africa.

My heartfelt thanks for all the good wishes I have received and I hope the press will allow my family some room for us to experience the joy we feel to have David home.

What I should have said was "recent idiotic events on her behalf made people question her again..."

And maybe not overseas, but nobody in the U.S. really pays attention to her until she does something moronic. Just like Britney. In fact, I'm almost certain that's the only way anyone KNOWS who Britney is, but thats another story. Its just...wtf happened to the Madonna I used to like? I can't remember her doing anything for attention until her sales began to slump...sure, shes always been controversial, but at least it was groundbreaking. This recent crap is OBVIOUS attention ploys and is nothing new.

    Sad.

Anyway, good for Madonna. Make your statement, girl. I say that as a Baptist, too! I'm an artist who believes in artistic expression. It might be uncomfortable, but if it's a reflection of where you feel you are in life, then go ahead.

Last time I checked, Madonna wasn't about hatred.

Re: NBC to air Madonna Crucifixion Scene

I don't think she's about hatred, either. But something like this is a little much, regardless of what you're trying to express. She could have done it in a more non-offensive way. I mean, it doesn't offend me personally, cause I don't really care about religion and such, but something tells me she eyed the controversy of it all. I mean, crucifying herself has NOTHING to do with Aids in Africa. Thats the biggest B.S. excuse to do something lame that I've ever heard - but I guess if doing dumb things for attention is her way of staying on top then I guess...do it? lol...I just wish she'd make better music lol. I'd deal with her crap then. But until then...

Looks like MCsNo1Fn uses his own photo as an avatar and I've seen his other photos in his gallery. I don't think he's so ugly. I don't even think he's ugly at all. I think MCsNo1Fn is handsome, but he's not my type.

In an article in today's paper they said NBC will not show the scene, and since Madonna is one of the executive producers, she must have agreed to that.

Awww! Thats the nicest thing Ive heard in awhile. THANK YOU!!

I just can't see Madonna giving in to anyone. Then again if she wants it to air, I guess she doesn't have a choice. Why not just release a DVD and get on with it without the T.V. Special?

Madonna on Oprah (25.10.) ---> The Baby Tour

    Set your TiVos!

Madonna is taking to the airwaves and is expected to talk about her new adoption and the unexpected (and - we think - unwarranted) backlash the singer received.

On Wednesday, October 25th, the Material Mom will shoot the shit with Queen of Daytime, Oprah Winfrey.

And, on Monday, October 30th, her Madgesty is also expected to be on the Today show.

She should just cap off the trifecta and visit Rosie on The View too!!

Re: Madonna on Oprah (25.10.) ---> The Baby Tour

The thing that the public notices most about Madonna is that she's true to herself. The way she acts and the way she talks and looks is the same as the way she was since the beginning of her music career. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Madonna is true to herself. Madonna isn't a con artist who pretends to be someone she's not to make the record buying public adore her therefore taking advantage of the record buying public that way and then once she's wealthy and famous enough she stops acting and shows her true self... well Madonna isn't like that. Madonna's not phony or in other words, a con artist. She's true to herself.

She's true to herself but needs to appear on three shows because she adopted a baby. Interesting. That's like when Britney Spears set up an interview with Matt Lauer to complain about how the media won't leave her alone. *smack* HELLOOO

At the moment, she has absolutely nothing to promote. She's not doing this for publicity, if she was, she would have done this at the start of her tour, or before her CD launched.

Secondly, she's doing this to speak out against the stuff that's being said about the adoption and to hopefully shed more light on the conditions in which those people live in. God forbid she try to do some good. The dirty whore.

Well, people should be given KUDOS for adoption, I'll never take that away from ANYONE, even Madonna, but it just seems like an ODD time, seeing as how all this press around this crucifixion crap has gone around. The timing just seems fishy. I mean, if she really is doing it out of the goodness of her heart, then more power to her, that's great. If not, it will only add to the list of reasons why I cannot stand her.

The timing just seems fishy. Why she feels the need to clear up THIS incident specifically is REALLY fishy. I mean, if she really is doing it out of the goodness of her heart, then more power to her, that's great. If not, it will only add to the list of reasons why I cannot stand her. I will DEFINITELY be watching the Oprah special, because I am very good at detecting heartfelt as opposed to fake media whore stuff. I did it with Britney, Mariah, Whitney, Christina and I can just always tell when someone is genuine, and I think there was only one time when I thought Madonna was genuine and that was on some VH1 special and how she was with the people she worked with (backup dancers). It showed she cares about those who work with her (the gift giving) and that she truly was interested in their lives. But I also got the impression that obviously it has to be like that or there would be a bitch fest.

anyway, It seems to me that she would only touch upon the personal backlash she is receiving from the press and concentrate on talking about her new book and how all the proceeds are earmarked for her "Save Malawi" project.

I think she will rise above the urge to tell people to stay the hell out of her business and stay focused on her book and the wonderful things she has planned for these children on the other side of the world.

    In my opinion
