It's really amazing how much of the real UK and EU news I get via the witicisms of the parody thread.

First my home page (MSN) went away, then my JUB thread, then Yahoo mail. Maybe it's the comets and astroroids. Well everythng is back to normal. All's well that ends well.

In the late 60's I was working as Supervisor of premium accounting at Occidental Life (now Transamerican) in LA. The accounting was done on an IBM 1060 with punch cards and tape memory. To prevent massive memory loss, there where two sents of tapes. One was always in a vault in the sub, sub, sub basement while the other was in use. Two nights in a row Edison was power switching, causing a surge and easing the tape in use. When descovered on the third day, 8 millon life policies and 6 million Medicare policies where gone. We had to go to the paper files and reabstract them all. It took weeks and many long nights.
