    Group Relationships

Does anyone have any experience with them/have opinions on them? Just curious, I've never been in one.

Whenever I think about it, a relationship between three people sounds kinda odd- one person would be left out of makeout sessions, and it'd be kinda weird to give heart to hearts to two people at the same time. Not to mention finding a third person the two initial people both love. But I've always thought it would be interesting to sort of have a couple relationship- like, there are two couples, and each couple constitutes one 'boyfriend unit' of the relationship. So the two couples go out on dates, have sex (with all four people usually present, unless otherwise is allowed), etc, but you still have the two base couples to work off of.
At the very least, if someone wanted a group relationship, it would seem that an even number of people would be optimal.
    Your thoughts/experiences?

I'm in one and it's been great so far. All three of us have been really close, im *kinda* the 'third wheel' in the fact that i joined later but im not bothered at all. Its really cute watching them make out. We all find it hot if two of us just have sex and we obviously have threesomes too. Ive had sex with them both and seperately for literaly hours so they much enjoy it lol. I never get jealous and neither do they. One of the guys works A LOT so its nice that im there when hes not and vice versa. I love them both, they both rock my world.

Yeah, no offense, OP. I was only trying to sum up my "thoughts, experiences..."

Sure, I fantasize about a sandwich with "dem Duke Boys," and have been involved in numerous group sex scenes - all very hot.

I've had friends of both genders take things a step further, and I suppose they may have been a little more enlightened/emotionally stable than I am, but neither seemed to work out in the long run.

Then there's the "open relationship." I've only got so many hours in the day - if I'm not using my spare time nurturing the side of my bread that's buttered - i.e, my primary support relationship - then what sort of support will I deserve when I need it the most?

On one of the bear sites there's a group of 3... I chatted with them and asked them if I could be Goldilocks. One is white with brown hair, one is Latino and one is a redhead. I told them I was suddenly hungry for Neapolitan ice cream. They seem like a fun gang.

I can understand open relationships to an extent, but personally the idea of having a simultaneous relationship with more than one person seems weird.

Did the 3-some thing a couple times in my younger days, but that was just fun sex....I wasn't in a relationship at that time.

I'm not too knowledgable in he subject, but it seems to more the a 3-way relationship can work great, but more people in the relationship can create more hardship and drama. Only know a few success stories with triads. Know a couple who tried the 4-way relationship (with 2 couples) and it didn't work well.

Also, I really gave it some thought and I like the idea of being in 3-way relationship (whether or not it's open to play with others outside of the relationship), but nothing I absolutely want to pursue. From my experience, I notice that it really take the right kind of people to have an open or poly relationship and they're not for everyone.

So many people I've met aren't even capable of getting one relationship right. I think it's a logistical nightmare. Sometimes a hot fantasy, but a logistical nightmare.

Also, at least as far as I can see, I think it would be far easier and more stable for two close couples to share the occasional naughty evening than to sustain a multi-person, on-going, relationship.
Americans need to keep their guns so they can protect themselves from gun violence just like Nancy Lanza did. And like Chris Kyle did. And like Gabby Giffords did. And like Tom Clements did. And like Michael Piemonte. And Joseph Wilcox.

Sociologically speaking a dyad is the most volatile of all relationships.

That being said, I would never pursue this type of relationship. Something about it just seems wrong to me..

    Re: Group Relationships

The concept is something I find rather intriguing to be honest...

Though I doubt I would ever find myself in one, or even with someone, who wanted to consider such a thing...

And here comes the amateur evolutionary biologist in me; the idea of monogamy is by itself a strange one, even in couples which aren't capable of producing offspring.

Given the desire to 'sow wild oats', it may very well be better for a couple who love each other to find a means to allow themselves to act on these desires, but still be able to be with each other.

Granted, the concept sounds strange. If you loved someone, you wouldn't want to be with someone else...and all the other arguments that exist against the idea of treading outside of the bonds of a relationship...

Yet, I think there may be something to the idea of being able to have an addition, either temporary or permanent, to a relationship.

Again, I'd likely never find myself in the situation, but I can certainly understand the thought process behind it.

I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, but I'm afraid my walk has become rather sillier recently...

This is one of the best posts I've read in days!

Thanks for sharing your personal story.

I've always wanted a Triad relationship, but I've "settled" for an open one and we both often have had a third join us but not permanently yet, alas.

    Re: Group Relationships

I've had threesomes (before getting engaged) that were hot but they did not progress to relationships. Last summer seemed to be a lot of "thrupling" in DC; several of our friends were in them. Only problem was that as winter came, it seems many of the thruples became couples and the old went out with the new (two are now engaged to be married with the oldest couple split and the newcomer marrying one).

We've gotten together with another couple and it was really hot watching someone else having sex while I was having sex with my hubby....kind of like a 3D porn movie...lol!

Love that Ram said this. Never knew he was so open.

Anyhoo, while I'd maybe consider an open relationship I do not know if I could do a group one*. I see an open relationship as a relationship where maybe other partners are involved, but a group (as in three or more folks dating each other?) That sounds super constrictive. I'd actually call it a closed relationship. Like more closed than a relationship between two people. More people=more rules.

*this entire paragraph is based on an extremely hypothetical situation: me being in a relationship.
