Agreed. Just as a gay man could have typically "straight" mannerisms due to his upbringing, a straight guy could have more effeminate mannerisms due to his surroundings. Either way, he seems like a pretty cool kid.

Again, this is not about judging Darren's talents and looks so much as it's about judging his fangurls hype on him

The "fangurl hype" probably has to do with the fact that 1) he was "famous" for AVPM and AVPS long before he was on Glee and people loved him (and the other StarKids), so he already had a huge fanbase and people are excited to see him getting more recognition, 2) the fans feel like they know him better than other celebrities, just because of the past with the StarKid Potter-stuff, which has always been laidback and informal with lots of fan contact, 3) he can sing and act, 4) he's cute and 5) he's a new character on freakin' Glee (which is already hyped up like crazy), with actual talent and charisma. The fact that he's gaining lots of attention and hype is almost natural – and it will surely die down to regular "celeb hype".

As for him being gay, most things point to no. He dated a girl in college (not sure about now), he seems to have no problems talking about how playing a gay character is important to him because he thinks it's important to see confident, gay teens on TV, but he also says he's straight. Like momoda6 says, there seems to be no reason not to believe him. His mannerisms are more… theatre kid-mannerisms than anything else.

as for mannerisms/conforming to those around you- Bull....I didn't meet another gay person until I was 21- and I have GAY mannerisms.....most people hang around with predominantly straight people during their youth and that seems to have no effect on gay kid's mannerisms
