Adele Officially Confirmed for Grammys Performance

After weeks of speculation, it has finally been announced that Adele will be performing at the 54th annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 12, marking her first live performance since undergoing vocal surgery last year.

"I'm immensely proud to have been asked to perform at this year's GRAMMY Awards," said Adele in a statement. "It's an absolute honor to be included in such a night, and for it to be my first performance in months is very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all."

The "Rolling In The Deep" songstress joins previously-announced performers Jason Aldean, Kelly Clarkson, Glen Campbell, The Band Perry, Blake Shelton, Coldplay, Rihanna, Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, Paul McCartney, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift. LL Cool J is signed on to host.

Earlier today (Jan. 31), Adele tweeted about her upcoming performance. "Ima be, Ima be singing at the Grammys. It's been so long I started to forget I was a singer! I can't wait, speak soon xx," she wrote.

The two-time Grammy winner is nominated for six awards this year, including Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year.

The Grammy Awards take place at the Staples Center in L.A. and air on Feb. 12 from 8-11:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on CBS.

Adele Sings (in Public) for First Time Since Surgery

Here's a bit of good news for the music industry and fans alike:Adele's voice is fine. More than fine, actually, and in a "60 Minutes" preview aired Friday morning on*"CBS This Morning,"*the soul-pop star sang three verses -- a cappella style -- of her hit song, "Rolling in the Deep."

It was the first time Adele has sung in public since throat surgery in early November and came at the request of interviewer Anderson Cooper. In the "60 Minutes" interview, she also talks about when she first realized there was something wrong with her voice and describes how she managed to communicate without speech.

"It was really hard," she says in the clip. "I love talking… I had a note pad and an application on my phone. You talk the words into it and then it speaks it. The great thing is, I love to swear… and I found one where you can swear, so I could get my point across."
    *
The interview airs on CBS before the Grammys, where she's up for six nominations, including album and song of the year.
    *
Adele's throat problems have plagued her throughout the past year. On Oct. 7, Adele was set to kick off a string of U.S. tour dates -- rescheduled from a June bout of laryngitis -- but announced that she would be unable to perform due to the vocal cord hemorrhage. It was revealed in late She had surgery in early November at Massachusetts General Hospital under the direction of the same surgeon who performed a similar procedure on Aerosmith's Steven Tyler.

Adele's '21' Hits 20th Week at No. 1, Van Halen Debuts at No. 2

    by Keith Caulfield, L.A. February 15, 2012

Thanks to a Grammy Awards-fueled gain, Adele's "21" album beats out Van Halen's new "A Different Kind of Truth" for the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 chart.

Adele's "21" sold 237,000 in the week that ended on Feb. 12 (the day of the Grammys) -- posting a gain of 95%. Van Halen's "A Different Kind of Truth" arrives in the No. 2 position with 187,000. Adele won six Grammy trophies on the Sunday night ceremony -- including album, record and song of the year -- and performed on the broadcast. It was her first stage performance since undergoing throat surgery last year.

With 20 weeks at No. 1, it marks the longest run at the top of the chart since "The Bodyguard" spent 20 weeks at No. 1 in 1992-1993. It's quite likely "21" will easily net a 21st frame atop the tally next week, once a full week of Grammy impact is felt.

Adele is also found at No. 9 with her debut set, "19," selling 36,000 (up 103%). It's the first time an act has had two albums in the top 10 since March 19, 2011, when Justin Bieber occupied the Nos. 4 and 8 slots with "Never Say Never: the Remixes" (EP) and "My World 2.0," respectively.

    Re: The Official ADELE mega-thread

Need more examples of Adele's continued chart dominance?

To recap, here are some of the records that Adele has already attained:

    - "21" has spent the most weeks - 23 - at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for an album by a female artist.

    - "21" spent its first 39 weeks on the Billboard 200 in the top five, passing Michael Jackson's "Bad" (38 weeks, 1987-88) for the most consecutive weeks in the top five dating to an album's debut.

    - The set's lead single "Rolling in the Deep" appeared on 12 Nielsen BDS-based Billboard airplay charts, including those covering pop, rock, R&B/hip-hop and even Latin formats, making it the most widely crossed-over hit of the past 25 years.

    - "Someone Like You" became the first song featuring only vocals and piano accompaniment to top the Hot 100.

    - Following her breakout 2011, Adele became the first woman to sweep three of Billboard's signature year-end honors in a single year: top artist, top Billboard 200 album and top Hot 100 song.

    Here's another.

On this week's Hot 100, "Deep" spends a 63rd week on the list and "Someone" remains charted for a 37th week, making for an even, and fitting, 100 weeks on the Hot 100 combined for the two former No. 1 songs.

No artist had previously charted two songs concurrently on the Hot 100 whose total chart weeks reached at least 100 weeks.

Although I have her 2 CDs and Chasing Pavements and Daydreamer are my favorites - I still cannot comprehend the hype surrounding her vocals. Agreed that she can sing and color her phrasing with emotions, but I dont see any spectacular reason that sets her apart from lets say, Eva Cassidy or even the superb Bonnie Raitt.

It's also the fact that Adele is powerhouse vocalist as well. She has one of the most powerful voices in the business currently. Combine that with the fact that she currently has a hugely successful CD and she sings live, Adele is going to receive a lot of praise for her vocals.

It's because of her realness, she doesn't try to be a fashion model, she doesn't oversing, she doesn't sing trite songs about getting drunk at the club, and she makes better r&b than half of her af american counterparts. If beyonce wants to call herself an r&b singer she should put down the heels and corny pop tart sexually charged radio hits and take notes.

    Also, this is why

True divas are real. Aretha is real. Patti is real. Adele is real. This new generation of overhyped "divas" are just manufactured overpaid strippers. Rihanna is an overpaid stripper.

Quoted for truth. Rumour has it, one and only, take it all, he won't go. Adele needs to slow down she is ruining other people's careers with this music, no one can go back to corny ass microwave chicken nugget songs like "s&m" or "run the world" when she's serving homemade gumbo like this.

And the success of "21" let a lot of people (re)-discover "19" - for an older release it's crazy how high it has charted this time around, got up to #4 around Grammy time.

    Congrats to her.

I read an article the other week, can't remember where, about a major contributor to her sucess is her being white. It had a lot of truth to it even though I thought 'what a load of crap' before I fully read it. If a black artist came out with something similar, no-one is all that interested. But because she is a white, british girl with a soulful voice everyone is in love.

Not meaning to hate on her, shes a lovely lady! Serious question though, if she were black, do you think she'd be as succesful?

She can flop for the rest of her life and still have accomplished more than most entertainers.

guiness book of world records? check.

over 10 million albums sold? check.

    ass full of grammys? check.

    musical icon? check.

her place in the history books is solidified, she could retire and eat pizza and drink beer (her favorite pasttimes) on an island somewhere and rest comfortably now.

i won't deny that, i felt the same way about justin timberlakes success. a black man releasing the same exact music as he did would have flopped, her redemption is that she's making soul music in a time where most charttopping black artists are going the urban, hip hop route so the public is hungry for genuine soul music no matter who it comes from.

Lauryn Hill still has people feigning for a "proper" 2nd CD.

So the answer to that, is probable. I won't say yes or no.

Although there are still several black soul artists that are getting accolades but not as much of the "shine" as Adele is currently getting(Jill Scott, Erykah Badu minus the nudity flap, Mary J. Blige), that doesn't mean if she were black that she would all of a sudden not be as successful - but sadly it might mean she wouldn't have as BROAD an audience.

Album has legs, which you don't see much of these days, it's been about a year and a half since it came out, and even now, if there's not a huge album coming out, it still has a shot at being the #1 album in the country. Very few albums camp out that high on the charts for that long. If there's an album to compare it to, I'd say Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours". Another excellent collection of pop-crafted beak-p songs. Maybe not the world's favorite album, but one that has become such a part of the time period, and pop music in general, that people will be referencing it and name-checking it from here On out.

She won't top this one - who could? She might not even come close ever again. But truth is - she may not need to.

Re: race. Would she be as popular if she were black? I'd venture a yes - if she were marketed the same way. Adele isn't marketed as masturbatory fodder first, music second. I'm willing to bet one of the people who like her music aren't even overtly aware of what she looks like, and in this day and age, hat's a minor miracle. The other artists Mouf mentions are good, but their image is a lot further forward in people's minds.

Preach! Topping this will be absolutely impossible short of a musical miracle, but this is one more hit album than most aspiring singers will ever produce. Massively successful.

On another note, how about Ray Charles drown in my own tears for my audition which is next tuesday?

Oh I definitely think she'd still be successful if she were black. Shes got talent and her material is good (if not to everyones taste) and that will always sell, if marketed properly. Though I do think that being white helped propel her into that realm of recognition and stardom that many black artists never reach, even though they are just as talented.

Yessssss for the honesty. Let's be real, if Beyonce were Naomi Campbell's color she wouldn't be 1/3 of the star she is now.
