What I know as "the Philadelphia sound" came along in the late 70s. It closely resembled American disco, but it featured more intricate harmonies and more sophisticated craftwork, and derived more influence from soul music.

Oftentimes, composers used full orchestras, and featured prominent use of horns. Supposedly, both disco and the Philadelphia sound were much more expensive to produce than other types of music popular in the era due to their reliance on full orchestras.

I loved the Philadelphia sound. It succumbed to the music shakeup that occurred when disco died. I offer you a good example of it:

Everybody remembers "Boogie Fever", but who remembers their other one? This one is a light, happy disco tune that reached the top 10 in 1975 or 1976.

Brand new song from Plan B... this is from the label "Pina Records"... which is not the same as WY Records (Wisin & Yandel's own). Pina Records has a different sound... all good... I prefer WY... but it's different.

These were all on a new CD "La Formula" by Pina Records... a sort of compilation CD with brand new songs from many different artists. It precedes multiple planned releases of new albums.
