A buddy of mine visited (West) Germany in the summer of 1977. He came back a different man.
He brought back with him some European music. I found it strange that some of the groups were wildly popular in Germany but unheard of in the United States. ABBA were mega-superstars in Europe, but only moderately successful in the US.
I bring to you now another such a group. Boney M were superstars in Germany, but completely unknown in the US
^ They were big in France as well... love them, but I can see why they wouldn't be too popular in the US... LOL check the lyrics :
RA RA RASPUTIN
Lover of the Russian queen
There was a cat that really was gone
RA RA RASPUTIN
Russia's greatest love machine
It was a shame how he carried on
I figured I would get back in belamo's good graces after posting J-pop. I listened to the entire symphony on our way back from the Outer Banks today. This is my favorite movement from said symphony...
Quite the fun scherzo. Although I love the coda in the 4th mvt with the fast strings.
^ What the hell has Dvořák got to do with me and my falling graces? You may be hinting rather at my bro Antonio's liking for Antonín (at least it was so fifteen years ago)...
There's not enough country in this thread. And this is just good. Written by one of my favorites, Rodney Crowell.
One would be tempted to say that there is never too little country anywhere on this planet but, given the general tone of this thread, that would be... idle.

Ah! memories from my tween years... (yes, my paws made my comment-posting fail ). BTW, sounds awful, like a midcorn orchestra or something... but it may also be that I do not remember how normal abnormal late-XIXth-century-ish common practice is supposed to sound anymore

Boney M were reasonably popular In Australia. Recently bought a best of CD. They are fantastic. Great pop. God, I'm so gay.
I say now you got no more cards to show,
'Cause I've seen them.
As I go you see my shadow from afar as I'm leaving,
You're deleted.
'Cause I'm not buying the lies you sell...
