Daft Punk - Tron & other music [merged]

A brand new Daft Punk track from their soundtrack for the forthcoming film Tron: Legacy has been posted online.

'Derezzed' forms the soundtrack to a new trailer for the movie, which you can watch below.

The movie, a sequel to the classic 1982 movie Tron, sees Jeff Bridges reprise his original role and features a full soundtrack from the French DJs alongside a track, 'Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)', by Journey.

Tron: Legacy is released on December 17 on 3D, but fans can see a sneak preview this Thursday (October 28) as part of "Tron Night". The Tron: Legacy soundtrack is out December 7

Cinemas around the country are screening a 20-minute preview, and you can get hold of tickets by heading to Disneyscreenings.com and entering the codeword “legacy”.

I'm like a little kid waiting on this movie to come out.

But while I'm a fan of Daft Punk, I don't see myself buying the soundtrack. I think its going to work perfectly in the movie, but on it's own I don't think I will enjoy it as much as their other work. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I can't believe they even signed onto this shit!

Just make a new studio album already!

    Tron is dated, and ridiculous.

This week on the Billboard Top 200:

The second-largest new entry comes from Daft Punk and the duo's score to the new Disney film "TRON: Legacy." The Walt Disney Records album enters at No. 10 with 71,000, marking the highest chart position and sales week for the dance music act. Daft Punk's previous best week came when 2001's "Discovery' started with 34,000 at No. 44. "TRON: Legacy" is also the first score album to reach the top 10 since May 21, 2005, when "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" debuted and peaked at No. 6 (96,000).

saw Tron 3D this past weekend. since I had such low expectations enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Still not a great movie but the soundtrack sounded awesome loud.

Can an Oscar nomination be in their future?

Joe Jonas Calls Out Daft Punk as His Solo Album Role Models

Joe Jonas already has the radio-friendly pop thing dialed, so for his solo album debut, the Disney protégé is set on conquering new territory -- specifically territory where white-hot electronic duo Daft Punk reign supreme. Yes, it seems after getting a taste of the pumping club beats propelling the plot of 'Tron: Legacy,' the young singer is hoping producer Danja can spice up his squeaky-clean Jonas Brothers persona with a dose of electro. "I think for me the biggest influences are Daft Punk," he told MTV News. "I love their music ... I think, for both of us, we are huge fans of the new 'Tron' movie."

Daft Punk: unheard music from 1994 to see release

‘Drive unreleased 1994′ will appear on the 3xCD compilation Soma 20 Years, due out on September 19.

    http://www.factmag.com/2011/08/03/da...o-see-release/

This track was confirmed by Daft Punk, but it is only a Demo that never cames out to the sale or was included in any official album. Also, this song must not be confused with the track "Drive (Unreleased 1994)" that will be out in 19th september. Enjoy This Song!!

    AGREED! Alive 2007 is GREATNESS!

I am just waiting till the day they tour again and make a new album. Their shows are so exclusive that hardly anyone but the insiders would get to know about it.

About Tron, I didn't like the movie, but the special effects were insane. The soundtrack on the other hand was amazing. The R3CONFIGUR3D album was INSANE also. I bought the R3CONFIGUR3D album just so I could get the Tron poster of Daft Punk. It's glow n the dark and it is so AWESOME! Here is the poster that I have in my room

    I really like this cover.

Benoit & Sergio - Around The World

Benoit & Sergio bring the heat with their 'Around The World Cover', a soporific-disco ride that will leave you hooked by its sensuous charms. The spaced out, woozy bassline, low-slung beats and tingling strokes of percussion and pads weave glowing sonic textures around the iconic drowsy robotic vocal, sending shivers down the spine. This is the duo's first foray into Double Standard/ W+L domain but with vibes this seductive; it's unlikely to be their last.

Back in the early 90s, legendary robotic duo Daft Punk were just a couple of young music lovers trying to get noticed. Upon meeting their House idols Slam, Daft gave them a demo tape, which eventually landed them a deal with Soma Records. While under the Soma label, the duo released only two singles, but there were many more track submissions that didn't make the cut. Fast forward to today, and it was announced that one of those tracks has been unearthed. The track, titled "Drive," was made by the French electronic duo in 1994, and, until today, has never been heard by the public. The song was discovered by Soma late last year, and will be included on Soma's 20th anniversary retrospective. You can read the story of their discovery, as well as listen to the song itself, after the jump. Thanks to 107.7 The End for the heads up.

At the tail end of 2010 we trailed boxes of DATs, pictures and god-only-knows what else to find artefacts of Soma’s early days. Imagine our surprise when we discovered a tape simply entitled ‘Daft Drive’. We hooked up the DAT machine and inserted the tape with the delicacy of a surgeon, pressing play and praying that for one, the tape contained what we hoped, and two, that it didn’t chew it like a dog chewing on a bone. In amongst the hiss and crackle, the most monstrous 909 kick drum thudded. Daft Punk’s Drive track had been rediscovered. Playing through was Live Daft Punk; freaky vocals, pounding Roland drums & synths and that archetypal DP compression. After standing in silence, witnessing this moment, the track faded off and we heard the sound of the French spoken word that the recording had been made over; the remnants of their parents audio collection. The tape had originally been sent with Rollin’ and Scratchin’ to be released as Soma25. But Soma asked these two bright-eyed and Techno-bound Frenchman, to finish and send Da Funk to accompany Rollin’ and Scratchin’ and DRIVE was shelved for a later date…

    Out today!!!

Soma Records -- 20 Years [SOMA CD095] Triple CD release featuring Daft Punk - Drive Unreleased 1994

    Release date: 19/09/2011
    Disc 1 -- Soma Classics
Disc 2 -- Slam DJ Mix
Disc 3 -- Silicone Soul DJ Mix

At the tail end of 2010 we combed through boxes of DATs, pictures and god knows what else to find artefacts of Soma's early days," Chris Lamb (from Soma, Daft Punk's first label) writes. "Imagine our surprise when we discovered a tape simply titled 'Daft Drive'. We hooked up the DAT machine and inserted the tape with the utmost care, pressing play and praying that for one, the tape contained what we hoped, and two, that it didn't savage it like a dog chewing on a bone.

The tape had originally been sent with Rollin' and Scratchin' to be released as Soma25 but Soma asked these two bright-eyed and techno-bound Frenchmen, to finish and send Da Funk instead and DRIVE was shelved for a later date. Until now.

It is our pleasure and honour to welcome Daft Punk back to Soma Records with this track from their past, and we see it as a fitting way to kick off our 20th anniversary compilation.

Daft Punk Signs With Columbia for Fourth Album

Sony Music is ramping up its dance music arsenal. Just three days after announcing a new strategic alliance with EDM powerhouse Ultra Records, news is emerging that Columbia Records has signed Daft Punk. A source confirmed that it's a "done deal."

The revered, reclusive and highly influential French DJ duo had released all previous recordings via EMI's Virgin Records, now owned by Universal, with the exception of its most recent full-length, Disney’s Tron: Legacy, which Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter scored.

Prior to Tron, the last proper Daft Punk album was 2005’s "Human After All."

Signing the electronic music pioneers is a major coup for the venerable 125-year-old Columbia, which also recently added Depeche Mode to its roster.

Confirmed details about Daft Punk’s forthcoming fourth album are few and far between, although producer/Chic co-founder Nile Rodgers recently hinted that it would be out in the coming months. Singer/songwriter/ASCAP president Paul Williams, veteran bassist Nathan East, Feist collaborator Chilly Gonzales and legendary disco producer Giorgio Moroder (via a spoken monologue) are among others who have reportedly collaborated with the duo over the past couple of years, although whether and what form their contributions to the album might take is unclear.

In a report Saturday, French newspaper Le Parisien seemed to affirm that a new album is slated for release in the spring.

At press time, label contacts had not responded to Billboard/THR’s requests for official comment.

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT THE DAFT PUNK ALBUM

After months of speculation, the new Daft Punk album is finally on the horizon.

It looks certain to be released via Columbia Records (rather than former longterm home Virgin) and, although no street date has been confirmed, Nile Rodgers dropped a massive hint earlier this month.

Writing on his blog, the legendary disco artist and current Daft Punk collaborator said: "The next time I set foot in Japan, my collaboration with Daft Punk would have started to hit people's eardrums."

Rodgers has a residency at The Blue Note in Tokyo between April 24-May 2, so if he's to believed, new Daft Punk music will have dropped by then.

Mid April seems like a reasonable time for release and many news reports are indeed stating that a new Daft Punk record will drop in the spring. A source close to Mixmag has even said that material from the French duo could arrive as soon as March, which makes things very exciting.

Serious rumours about Daft Punk's fourth studio LP began to gather pace early in 2012, when esteemed American songwriter Paul Williams said it would be ready by June of that year.

Of course, that turned out to be a slightly wayward prediction, but details of a new record has emerged bit by bit, and oh-so-slowly, ever since. Here's what we know so far.

Nile Rodgers will, of course, feature on the LP. He's made no secret of his involvement with Daft Punk, posting a picture of himself with the pair to his blog during February 2012.

Daft Punk had visited Rodgers' New York apartment for an informal jam session, but both parties got on so well that they instigated an official collaboration. It's not yet clear how many tracks they've made together, but Rodgers will definitely feature.

During an exclusive interview (see below), he then told Mixmag: “Spiritually and artistically working with them was as good as anything I’ve ever done. It’s as great as being in a studio with Bowie, it’s great as being with Bernard Edwards, and it’s as great as the best stuff I’ve ever done with Duran or Madonna."

Then, at the International Music Summit in Ibiza, Giorgio Moroder revealed that he too had been in the studio with Daft Punk, adding the tantalising prospect of another dance music legend being involved with the new LP. That news dropped in May 2012 and it slowly dawned on us that the French duo were casually strolling into whatever studio they fancied to make what may be their magnum opus.

The aforementioned Paul Williams also let on that he'd written tracks for Daft Punk at last year's South By South West festival.

Chilly Gonzales, the charismatic musician who has collaborated with Feist and Peaches, among others, is also reported to be involved, as is Panda Bear of cult American indie outfit Animal Collective.

Daft Punk last played in the UK in 2007 and Bestival boss Rob Da Bank reckons that the pair won't tour this year. However, we're still hopeful of an appearance somewhere on the globe to support a new record.

The duo have been kind of quiet since their last album dropped in 2005. They scored the soundtrack of the Tron remake and put out a live record. They also got a little involved in a fashion show.

Expectation for a new album is absolutely palpable with fans buzzing with excitement at every new revelation. While they've kept details scarce, there is now enough evidence to suggest Daft Punk will be back in 2013. They've surrounded themselves with a glorious group of collaborators and, if Nile Rodgers is right, we'll be hearing material as soon as April. Here's hoping.

Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' Leaked As Full Song With Pharrell Williams Appears Online

Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" has been "leaked" about one thousand times by now, but on Wednesday, it appears as though the actual thing finally hit the web.

The song, which features Pharrell Williams on vocals and Nile Rodgers on guitar, clocks in at just over four minutes and delivers on the funky promise of the many teasers the French house duo debuted during "Saturday Night Live" and at Coachella's first weekend.

Multiple false versions of the track -- mostly comprised of loops stitched together by overzealous fans and trolls -- permeated the internet in the days up to this leak. Stereogum posted a fake version and later deleted an article on the song, and just Wednesday, none other than Rolling Stone promoted a fan-made track as though it was the real thing (their page has also since been deleted).

The main difference between those tunes and this version: Pharrell actually has verses on this one.

UPDATE: There is no official confirmation that this is the album version of the song. A radio station posted an earlier, loop-only version of the song and said it sounded "pretty damn close" to the official version. The version below has more instrumentation and added vocals, the latter of which some have said seem unmixed and flat.

"Get Lucky" is the lead single off "Random Access Memories," Daft Punk's comeback album. The disc is due in stores and on digital retailers on May 21.

Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' Gets Very Specific Release Date

Spokesperson for Columbia Records confirms to MTV News band's single will be released Friday at 12:01 a.m. ET.

Daft Punk's phabulous, Pharrell-assisted "Get Lucky" has leaked roughly a thousand times over the past week, with fans taking it upon themselves to stitch together snippets from the dynamic duo's Coachella album teaser, myriad of "Saturday Night Live" spots, and "Creators Project" interviews, then attempted to pass the end result off as the real deal.

Of course, most folks haven't been fooled ... though things reached a head on Wednesday, when a radio edit of the song — supposedly broadcast by a Dutch radio station — began making the rounds, and, with its added lyrics, and improved audio quality (Nile Rodgers's guitars sound awesome), well, it certainly seemed legit.

MTV News attempted to verify the leak with a spokesperson for Daft Punk's label, Columbia Records, but received a firm "no comment," though, a second source confirmed it was, in fact, the genuine radio edit of the single (and yes, things are so super-secretive when it comes to Daft Punk's Random Access Memories album that we're relying on anonymous sources).

However, that same spokesperson for Columbia did confirm one bit of conjecture: "Get Lucky" will be made available for download at exactly 12:01 a.m. ET on Friday (April 19), meaning that, in less than 14 hours, you'll finally know if that version you've been listening to is legit.

Meanwhile, Random Access Memories is due on May 21, which is still like five weeks away. Pace yourself, kids.

    Sike.

Whole album is pretty solid, the only thing I would say is that the tone of the album might be jarring to some who expect to pack more of a punch like previous releases. It's definitely a more laid back "chill" album. I feel like it carries the vibe Daft Punk usually has in all their albums.

    Q + A | Daft Punk’s Secret Weapon: Producer Todd Edwards

The storied house music producer Todd Edwards is two decades into a groundbreaking career in which he pioneered the cut-up sample technique that gave birth to the U.K. garage style of dance music, earning him the nickname “Todd the God” with aficionados. But it feels like he’s only been warming up the decks. A frequent collaborator with Daft Punk — he wrote and sang “Face to Face” from their 2001 album “Discovery” — Mr. Edwards reunites with the helmet-wearing pair for a track on their much-anticipated album “Random Access Memories,” out May 21 (and streaming now on iTunes).

But the robots aren’t the only ones seeking his services: Mr. Edwards, who has remixed the likes of Jessie Ware and Phoenix, spoke last week to a group of up-and-coming musicians at Red Bull Music Academy, a pop-up music workshop and concert hub in Manhattan. This weekend, he will deliver an Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 with a little help from the Daft Punk crew and the disco legend Giorgio Moroder. Here, he dishes on his adopted hometown, Los Angeles; the politics of electronic music; and how Daft Punk encouraged him to go solo.

    Q.
You recently moved to Los Angeles after living in New Jersey for most of your life. What’s the music scene there like?

    A.
I’ve started to hang out with a couple new producers that have helped me check stuff out. For example, there is a young group called Velcro. It seems like God has always put someone in my life to open new doors. These kids that I’ve been meeting in L.A. have been introducing me to producers like Bicep, and it’s a little bit surreal. The music is great, but I’m like, “Wow, this sounds exactly like what was going on in the ’90s!” And then I check out SoundCloud and see on how many hits they get, and I’m just amazed about how clued in everyone is. When I was living in New Jersey, I was just sort of doing my own thing. I wasn’t even researching as much. I think when you’re around a prosperous environment where the club scene is thriving, like Los Angeles, it really encourages you to expand your mind.

    Q.
Many perceive the disco nature of “Random Access Memories” as a pointed move away from electronic dance music.

    A.
I think people have been associating the Daft Punk album as a strict disco album, but I wouldn’t say that. Everyone is making that judgment off of “Get Lucky” [the first single]. But that track is not definitive. I think the whole concept of the Daft Punk album is a return to a warmth in dance music. It’s about allowing dance music to have an organic sound, but still making it dancey and catchy.

    Q.
What are your thoughts on “Get Lucky”?

    A.
I know some people love “Get Lucky” and some people are more critical, but what I love is it reminds me of when I was a kid and I would buy a 45 record and I would keep playing that 45 record over and over. It has that vibe. But I don’t think it’s a rebellious act of disco. I mean, when you think of Jamiroquai, he takes on that sound as well.

    Q.
I think “disco” has become a blanket term for the crisp, deep sound of live instrumentation within a dance song. It seems as if Daft Punk is interested in reintroducing the bouncy production quality of Fleetwood Mac’s “Everywhere” and other songs from that era.

    A.
You hit it on the head. The new record definitely embodies that. It’s not just disco. It’s about those rock-style songs that you can dance to.

    Q.
You wrote and did the vocals for “Fragments of Time” from “Random Access Memories.” Is this a preview of your coming solo record?

    A.
Thomas Bangalter from Daft was nice enough to encourage me to really push myself on both my songwriting and my singing. He gave me some brotherly wisdom: “You have a great voice. You have the ability. You could spin off from what we’re doing on this album and reach a new audience.” The cut-up thing is not going to take me to a higher place because everyone is doing it now, but songwriting and singing is a new opportunity for me. Thomas kept telling me to not focus on complicated production techniques, but just to focus on the vocals and songwriting.

    Q.
The collaborator video you did with Daft Punk has more than 700,000 views on YouTube. I imagine you have a lot of new fans now.

    A.
Daft Punk is known on a global scale. Even if people don’t know who I am, I can always drop the Daft Punk thing. I don’t like to name-drop, but if you don’t know who I am, I can always say I’m best known for working with Daft Punk. Working with them is like having a good job on your résumé, or a good review. I joke that working with Daft Punk is like having a really hot girlfriend. Like, “Wow, he must be important if she’s with him!”

Daft Punk breaks Spotify’s first-day album streams record, set to beat Mumford & Sons for first week streams

At the time of writing, Daft Punk’s mega-hit Get Lucky has been streamed on Spotify more than 28 million times around the world, a figure we know because the music-streaming service recently started displaying song play counts. Indeed, Get Lucky was breaking streaming records from its very first day of launch back in April.

The album it appears on, Random Access Memories, is following suit (as expected) and is already breaking streaming records since it was made available on Spotify on Monday.
