Rihanna Drops 'We Found Love'; New Album Due Nov. 21

Rihanna goes clubbing in "We Found Love," the singer's new Calvin Harris-produced track off her just-announced sixth album. Thumping beats, airy vocals and repetitive synth keyboard riffs punctuate the upbeat dance jam.

Ri revealed the song title on Monday in a Twitter post. "NP: 'WE FOUND LOVE,'" she said. "We Found Love" was produced by Harris, the Scottish producer/DJ whose single "Bounce" is currently at No. 11 on the Dance Airplay chart. The single is reportedly being released on Oct. 11, although Island Def Jam has yet to confirm the release date.

In equally awesome news, it was also revealed Thursday that the singer's new album will be released Nov. 21. She hinted last week on Twitter that a new release would drop "THIS FALL!!!!!" Though an official title has not been announced, Rihanna has simply described the new disc as "GangstaR."

Her upcoming release will mark Rihanna's sixth studio album since her "Music of the Sun" arrival in 2005 and will come nearly a year after her last set, "Loud," was released in November of 2010. This sort of rapid-fire release pattern isn't new for the star: since 2005, she's dropped a new album every year except for 2008.

Topless Rihanna Scolded by Modest Farmer

Rihanna caused a bit of a stir in Bangor, Northern Ireland on Monday, where she was shooting the video for her new single, "We Found Love." She was on the land of farmer Alan Graham, who actually had to correct the singer when she broke a no-nudity dress code by going topless.

Based on video clips and leaked photos from the day's events, the 23-year-old Barbados native's wardrobe included a flannel checked shirt with a red bra, a stars-and-stripes bikini under a cut-off jean jacket, and finally a black meshed shirt that didn't appear to have anything else underneath.

At some point, Rihanna went from topped to topless (according to Irish and British media reports) at which time Graham climbed off his tractor, where he was perched, and approached her directly.

"I thought it was inappropriate," Graham told the BBC. "I requested them to stop and they did. I had my conversation with Rihanna and I hope she understands where I'm coming from. We shook hands."

He added, "From my point of view, it was my land, I have an ethos and I felt it was inappropriate. I wish no ill will against Rihanna and her friends. Perhaps they could acquaint themselves with a greater God."

Graham told Ireland's RTE that he actually booted Rihanna from his field after the incident. "I felt the thing was inappropriate and I requested that the filming end at that stage."

Rihanna is in Northern Ireland this week to perform three concerts. She announced last week that a new album will be released Nov. 21. The set will mark Rihanna's sixth studio album since her "Music of the Sun" arrival in 2005 and will come nearly a year after her last set, "Loud," was released in November of 2010.

When I first saw the video for "Cheers" I noticed right away she was sporting new hair color in some of the shots, so a new album was for sure around the corner. "We Found Love" is very under whelming and nowhere as good as it wants to be. She should have just stuck with "Cheers" and released her album early next year. Hands down my favorite video from her this era. She seems like she'd be a lot of fun to hangout with.

I dig how the video had a narrative and it gave the sunny, upbeat nature of the song a brand new, poignant meaning. I love how she went there and incorporated drug addiction into the storyline. You can tell from the visuals that not only was she was very inspired by Whitney and Bobby, her own destructive relationship with Chris (the scene with the two of them arguing in the car kind of gave me chills, I didn't know how far she was going to go with the allusions there lol), but the film Requiem of a Dream as well. I really wasn't expecting the video to be that dark, striking and intoxicating. "We found love in a hopeless place", literally. I thought she was going to go the safe route by making another pretty, fun and colorful "Only Girl in the World" type video. I just really have to give Rih props for defying expectations and going in a radically different direction as far as the theme and the style of the video is concerned.

This video totally reminded me why I fell so in love with her during the Rated R era.

Totally agree! I was impressed with the video myself. Wasn't expecting it to have so much substance, layers. And definitely wasn't expecting it to be so dark. But I love it. It makes me appreciate the song a lot more. Definitely drives home the "We found love in a HOPELESS place". The video really paints the picture of that lyric, instead of leaving the average listener with the impression that the song is all "sunny and bright". That's substance, for ya. I like.

Nov. 22--Rihanna, first and foremost, is a pop star. And Talk That Talk, her sixth studio album, is a mostly bright, brisk listen. It clocks in at less than 40 minutes, adorned with ridiculously catchy hooks and A-list production (Dr. Luke, StarGate, Ester Dean). Several songs are encoded into memory after a single listen.

But there's a dark, ominous edge to much of Rihanna's music that tempers the sparkle and makes things all the more interesting. (Talk That Talk is online and in stores this week.) She frequently plays with gender roles, experiments within the framework of mainstream music -- and isn't afraid to get raunchy.

Talk That Talk comes just a year after the neon-fueled blast of Loud and high-profile duets with Nicki Minaj (Fly) and Coldplay (Princess of China). It's all helped push Rihanna into the rarified air of pop superstardom. (Her 11 No. 1 hits have her behind only Madonna and Mariah Carey in terms of females.)

At its best, the record delves into legitimate components of club music while retaining accessibility. Where Have You Been? showcases a fuzzy trance groove, complete with peaks and valleys. You Da One chugs along a dancehall/dubstep beat while paying lyrical tribute to Whitney Houston's My Love Is Your Love. Minute-long interlude Birthday Cake snakes through suggestive lyrics and a hypnotic beat (and should have been extended into a full song).

Calvin Harris-helmed first single We Found Love has been criticized for making Rihanna's vocal an afterthought. But that actually seems to be the point. The song unfurls steadily, like the emotions being detailed in the lyrics. And the buildup is designed for dance-floor momentum. (It should come with a "Hands in the air" DJ shout-out.)

Cockiness (Love It) is likely to be the album's polarizing moment. It's a little Britney, a little Beyonce, framed by dancehall and hip-hop elements. It's slinky, suggestive, ridiculous and more fun than it probably should be.

Rihanna channels another diva during power ballads We All Want Love and Farewell, which boast Beyonce-size production and sentiment. (Think the flip side of the Sasha Fierce album.) And a few moments -- Roc Me Out, the Mariah-esque Watch N' Learn, the Jay-Z assisted track -- play like standard radio fare and just don't seem to challenge Rihanna the way the rest of the album does.

As with any good pop album, there's a lot of talk about the perils of love. (Rihanna even employs a Chris Brown double in the frenetic clip for We Found Love.) But there are glimmers of hope through the heartbreak.

"I feel like I'm a hopeless romantic/I can't help falling in love," she sings amid the electronic twitches and booming bass of Drunk on Love Rihanna will never make an album full of swooning love songs, but it's nice to know she still believes.
