I love Josh, and his "Straight But Not Narrow" and indeed the entire campaign were well-done no question, and not to be a negative voice here, but I just had to say that I'm not so sure that Josh isn't supporting this "cause" just because it's trendy to do so. Youtube search a video called "Josh hutcherson My confession" (not direct-linking it here) and, right near the end, he mocks a stereotypical, flaming, lisping gay voice/mannerism thing that really rubbed me the wrong way. I'm not so sure that today he'd be able to get away with mocking, say, religious zealots or overweight or mentally challenged people that way, but it's still perfectly fine for gay stereotypes? To give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was younger and more naive and those he's met in the industry behind-the-scenes (where no shortage of people of all orientations work) have changed his viewpoint - but it's still one reason why his "Straight But Not Narrow" stuff seems less than authentic to me.

I get what you are saying, and I think there are plenty of people out there who are doing exactly what you describe. I don't think Josh Hutcherson is one of them though. It's only recently (the last year or two) that it's officially become "trendy" to be down with the gays. I mean... that's a GREAT thing for us, finally the majority of the public seems to be leaning towards equality. But while there were lots of allies before that... up until a few years ago, it wasn't exactly a career-boosting move. Josh has been supporting equality for quite a while... even before it was trendy, and before he really became as well known as he is now. I think the video you saw is probably a case of a young straight man being ignorant to what is actually offensive and what isn't... and I think he's probably grown up from that now. For him to support a cause early on in his career... at the potential RISK of his career. I think that speaks volumes about his sincerety.
