Premiers tonight on Showtime.
Who else is ready for this?
I am watching it right now.
I keep meaning to by the DVD set so I could watch it. I heard about it, do not have cable t.v., have seen maybe 2 1/2 episodes of the entire series. I was at a friends last nite, saw the season premier. It was awsome! THough I think I might get tired of him never showing any emotions. I understand/have heard about his past, but I think the (the actor) over does the "lack of human emotions" bit a little too much. I am going to have to get down to the used video store here and pick up first season sometime, and start from there......
Anyway I thought the premiere was really good. Interested to see where this season goes now that Dexter is a bit more unhinged than we've seen in the previous few seasons.
I still think killing Rita off was a bad idea. Maybe theyre just gonna have the grandparents take them. The idea of the Dexter being a single dad to 2 kids with murdered parents seems dumb.
I figured Quinn and Deb getting together was inevitable. Personally I thought it would have happened sooner. Now it just seems weird. If that was really Quinn's ass and not a butt double it was not as good as I expected. lol
It's funny how LaGuerta has become my favorite character starting last season. I like how much her character has grown.
The main thing I enjoyed was Quinn's bare ass! They finally figured out that they do in fact have a gay audience that would like to see these men naked.
Good episode. I am just fearful on how the rest of the season is going to proceed. It almost seems like a repeat of the Doakes storyline with Quinn investigating Dexter. I didn't love that season, so I hope that they don't really spend too long on this.
Does anyone know what the storyline of the season is?
New episode in few minutes! :c)
Apparently, Julia Stiles will be appearing in this season of Dexter, and from what I read, I would guess that she has something to do with the cult.
With last week's episode, it's starting on their Season 5 storyline. It has the makings of a good season.
It's starting now!
Btw, has anyone seen those Dodge commercials with Michael C Hall using his "creepy Dexter voiceover"?
I love 'em; I was telling a friend of mine they should turn those into a scene from Dexter, and someone on youtube did it using the music from the show! XD
Wow. I am loving this season so far with Julia Stiles. Should be interesting to see how this progresses.
I fucking love it right now.
Although I really don't get the point of the Santa Muerte storyline. Why the fuck did they spend so much time on something that had absolutely nothing to do with the meat and potatoes of the show? They've never done that before.
That's my only complaint about this season - the constant distractions/side-stories. I'm really sick of Batista and Laguerta.
But I love the stuff with Dexter and Lumen. I really want them to become an evil killer couple.
This is the only show I have ever seen that just never loses its edge. I am stunned by these writers.
Last Sunday's episode was great. It gets better and better.
Would it kill Dexter to be shirtless a bit more? Keep it in character, have him changing out of bloody clothes.
I love the book series, and I love the show. This season has been great and I am glad they involved Julia Stiles, I am really digging her character and the arc they have going about her.
My friends do not like the nanny, but I am dumbfounded by their comments, what is their NOT to love about the nanny?
For a minor character, Harrison's Nanny plays a big part in the show. I think later in the season something is going to happen to her.
I know, the nanny is so amazing! I really don't want anything to happen to her or Julia Stiles. My friend and I were shocked how Dexter treated her Saint figurine. We're not spiritual people at all, but we thought it was pretty rude of him to insult her belief by belittling the Saint figurine.
However, our love returned full force when Dexter decided to "play along" and give the figurine a second chance. :P
I've come close to giving up on this show the last couple seasons, but I just watched all 8 of this one so far onDemand this weekend, and I really think it's made many improvements.
One of my main complaints before had to do with Rita and her children for a number of reasons. Problem solved!
Another was Deb. I normally find her very annoying, but I feel the character and the performance have matured greatly over the past couple seasons. Her and Masuka are great as the show's reliable sources of humor.
Less and less dad/conscience is always nice.
But mostly, I really enjoy the Julia Stiles character and how Dexter's relationship with her develops. Previous partners-in-crime story-lines were always a bit ridiculous, and there was always distrust. Here you can really see how these two characters need each other, and it's completely believable. Finally, a recurrent character developing with REAL motives who isn't just a cop, a crazy person, or a vigilante. It's less macabre, but far more compelling.
I agree with a lot of the above. Deb has gotten so much better. I really couldn't stand her in season 1, now she is one of my absolute favorites. I love her. It helps that she loves the fuck word as much as I do.
I was agreeing with you for a bit there, but she was totally invisible in this week's episode. Quite strange, really.
I really love this season. Dexter's relationship with Lumen has provided some captivating, intense moments.
I think my favorite part, however, was the conversation between Dexter and Deb wherein they discussed whether or not some people deserved death. That was a totally poignant moment in the series and the precursor to Deb eventually finding out about what he does. I really hope they don't back down on the big blow-off; if Deb doesn't find out by the end of the series, I will be so disappointed.
This season owns so hard.
LaGuerta is back to being a stone cold bitch and something is really happening with it this time.
Lumen is fuck-awesome.
Dexter is at his best...and worst...all at once (i.e. he's been typically awesome at getting the best of his opponents, all the while being oblivious enough to putting himself close to getting caught).
Deb is setting herself up for the ultimate meltdown.
Even Quinn has become a much better character.
And this season is one of my top two (along with the amazing, unbeatable season 1).
Last Sunday's Episode "Teenage Wasteland" was great. Dexter gets deeper and deeper and you wonder how he's going to get out of this now.
I just about shit when Jordan Chase phoned Dexter and called Lumen by name.
What's Quinn going to do with the photos Liddy (private detective) gave him? I suspect Liddy will get Dexter's treatment. They're re-opening the barrel girls case so that will get deeper too. How will they get this figured out with only 3 episodes remaining?
I wait for Sunday night to come. It's the best show in television.
Now I haven't watched it from season 1 just yet, but I have watched this season from the beginning and I am hooked! And I agree with CowboyBob, I was shocked when Chase addressed Lumen by name. Sunday needs to hurry and roll around.
Maybe by then I would have gotten at least done with Season 1.
There was a huge flaw in tonight's episode that really ruined it for me.
Private Detective Liddy was rummaging through Quinn's desk and no one asked him who he was and what he's doing. Liddy mentioned to Dexter about his Dad and mentioned his sister, but how does the general public have access to a cop's desk or even the office without credentials? All the employees of Miami Metro wear a lanyard or have identification in view.
He then forged Quinn's signature and requested surveillance equipment and the person at the procurement desk should have phoned Quinn to check because Liddy didn't have visible credentials. That's how it's done in real life.
Other than that, it was Lumen's first kill. Chase is revealing himself to be a real fucked up monster. Loved the DNA cheek swab scene.
^^^ - Yeah I thought he was kicked off the force, or at least suspended...and busted by LaGuerta too. So Liddy would really walk into the lion's den with Quinn's desk right next to her office. Bullshit. Here's hoping that Dexter kills him in the final episode.
Great episode last night. Have they killed everyone out of the 5 except for Jordan Chase?
The men in the photo are:
1) Jordan Chase (his real name is Eugene Greer)
2) Cole Harmon (Chase's head of security, killed)
3) Dan Mendell (kids dentist, killed)
4) Boyd Fowler (guy who picked up dead animals in the highway, killed)
5) Alex Tilden (banker, killed in episode 10)
Emily Birch is the woman Lumen talked to, and she told everything. She's the first woman who was raped and tortured by the group. But then later in the episode she was talking with Jordan Chase. Chase told her "you made me what I am today". What did that mean? She appears to have feelings for him.
We all know Chase will eventually be killed by either Dexter or someone else. Liddy the detective will be killed somehow too because he has too much on Dexter and Lumen.
Does anyone know if the show has been renewed for another season, or is this the final season?
^^^ - Yes. It just got picked up for another season.
Holy crap! That was good. I am glad that Liddy is finally dead, and the season finale next week looks intense.
Last Sundays episode was great. The van scene where Dexter killed Liddy was exciting, especially watching the blood drop onto Quinn's shoe. However, Dexter broke the code in killing Liddy ...... Liddy may have been a rough asshole, but he wasn't a murderer.
When Emily phoned Lumen I knew exactly what would happen.... Lumen would go over there alone and be captured by Jordan Chase. That was disappointing and predictable. Also, you think Jordan Chase would have just killed Lumen right away instead of the dramatic kidnapping.
How are the Dexter and Lumen photos Quinn has in his nightstand going to be explained?
After watching the season finale previews during the credits I can't figure out how Dexter will get out of this one. Next Sunday can't come fast enough.
Dexter already broke the code when he tried to kill Doakes (he was about to kill him before Lila did it first).
That's why I thought it was absolutely stupid last season when they made a big deal about him accidentally killing an innocent.
Anyway, what a fucking episode. I had read spoilers beforehand, though, so I knew what was going to happen. Oop.
I definitely won't be doing that with the finale.
I think Deb is going to find out for sure. The episode is entitled, "The Big One."
In the preview of the season finale during last week's credits it hints that she sees it, but I don't know if it really happens.
If she does, of course Deb will stick with her brother, even tho she's a good cop.
I don't know how those photos Liddy gave Quinn will be explained.
Since the series has been extended to another season, will Deb become a vigilante like her brother?
If she doesn't find out, I'll be perplexed.
The episode title says it all.
In fact, the episode title was changed from something even more revealing.
It went by a different title, but it was changed to "The Big One."
The previous title - I forget what it was, exactly - was the title of some book or movie wherein a girl found a huge secret about a guy by finding some of his writings about it.
So we two different episode titles - one was an allusion to a big smoking gun type of story, and another is simply "The Big One" when the most scandalous thing that could happen on the show is Deb finding out about Dexter (or at least Dexter getting caught).
Okay, tomorrow night is the season finale. I'm all psyched up for it. The only bad thing about it is we'll have to wait another 10 months to see new episodes.
I hope to God they don't leave us with a cliffhanger!
Well that was an amazing season.
So sad that...
Spoiler: (Highlight this box to see the hidden message.)
Lumen had to leave and Dexter couldn't be with her. Seems like that was his one chance to be with someone who understood him. They really left it open for any direction it could go next season.
That finale was severely underwhelming.
- S a l e m i t e -
I was disappointed by the finale; they could have handled it much better. Lumen all of a sudden announced she had to leave, then you didn't see her again. They made too big of a deal about Harrison's birthday party instead of properly tying up loose ends. Altho Jordan Chase's killing was supposed to be a big deal during the season, it was handled so quickly and wasn't dealt with much more after it happened.
The only thing left open was Quinn thanking Dexter for reporting the blood on his shoe didn't match Liddy's blood, so Quinn knows Dexter covered for him. That's something that may come back next season.
There weren't any suggestions as to what might happen next season, but I'm glad it wasn't a cliff hanger that would have made us wait for 10 months for something to happen.
Bring on season 6.
^ I agree. I was expecting more drama and a bigger mess about Chase's death. Seemed more like they were worried about Dexter not getting caught by Deb and the others instead, also there was the birthday like you said. I didn't like Lumen's departure or how they even went about doing it.
But I guess the good thing is that it was left open-ended. So anything is bound to happen now. It's better than True Blood's cliffhangers at the end of season...that grinds my gears so badly.
Anybody watch it?
I just finished the fifth season and, as always, i'm left craving more.
Thanks for merging it, I didn't realize the other thread existed.
Anyway, I thought this was a pretty strong season. It was definitely better than the third. Though, the finale was a bit... underwhelming.
I was expecting Lumen's character to leave. I mean, she kind of had to. We know that Julia Stiles wasn't going to be staying for another season, so she either had to leave or die. And killing her was not a good option because of how last season's finale played out. Overall, I did like the character and thought that her storyline was intriguing. I hope she makes some scattered appearances in the future.
Anyone else wonder about the red car Dexter stole? After that wreck there is no way his blood and hair isn't in there, so I find it a bit odd that the police didn't find anything..
Another thing I was wondering about is that they said there were five DNA samples on the "barrel girls". Well, Chase never participated in the rapes physically. So who was the fifth person? I think the writers got a little slack with some details this season and I hope they tighten up next year.
The thing that I probably liked the most about the finale was the look on Dexter's face as he blew out the candle's on Harrison's birthday cake at the very end. Hello Dark Passenger.
Here in the UK as you can imagine we get loads of American tv series
for the most part sorry guys but they are shit .
Though every once in a while you guys come up with a total gem and Dexter is one of the best along with another few heartstoppers .
One thing has to be said that when you guys barnstorm the result is usually
tottaly amazing . From someone who really appreciates a great series fantastic .
blah blah blah - I am not reading anything beyond season four so it doesnt get spoiled - I dont habe showtime - so I have rented the entire first four seasons - LOVE it - cant wait for the season that just ended to hit video...
Glad they got rid of the wife, shouid have dropped the kids too, let's get back to the slashing and dismembering.
The Season 6 trailer is out now. Looks like it's going to be another great season.
Thanks for this Aussieguy. I haven't seen it. Looks like we have to wait until October 2 for the premier! Last season was great marred only by the bad season finale.
Thanks for the trailer AG, it looks like it's gonna be a great season.
