Tron, the original. the visuals hold up remarkably well for a 30 years old film. but the cgi gets repetitive after a while, and the story is boring, corny, and mostly incomprehensible. still, i know i would have loved this as a kid, and i can still see its charm as an adult.

Black Swan. It was absolutely breathtaking, especially the end when she was the black swan. I left so happy from that movie

I can't recall a better or more inspired performance in a long time. She will be winning every award there is.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox- Wes Anderson's style suits this stop-motion family film wonderfully. The characters and voice performances were all great as well. It's worth watching for the labored-over art and character design alone.
I think the mom was the most unconvincing part.

I am considering seeing it... but wanted to know if it's worth it. hmm. maybe not... I still might see it for the effects, but for almost 10 dollars (even a matinee)... I might wait for dvd... I saw the original back in 83 and loved it. Can you tell me more by PM?

I don't know when it started, but this is a tradition with us, watching this movie...

I'm sure no one here has ever seen it. It's considered the pilot movie for the tv series "The Waltons", a US drama series from 1972-1982

I can't believe I didn't watch "A Christmas Story" this year! I usually catch it during its 24-hour marathon run on TBS (US cable station).

Just saw it last night! Holy crow! Awesome, awesome film.

Although I heard a lot of people were confused by the ending, I really wasn't I got what the director was saying with it.

And I hope Natalie Portman gets her Best Actress nom for this, fantastic work in it!

    Also is she really pregnant?

^ I didn't find it confusing at all - and yes, Natalie Portman deserves an Oscar nomination for this (at least, a win is not out of the question in my opinion). The role is so all-consuming and intense, and she was brilliant in it!

As for whether she's pregnant, yes, yes I believe she is. Also engaged to be married. An excellent year for her!

Finally some one who gets what I've been saying to my friends about this film! I do think she will get a win. And I am pretty sure she will get a Golden Globe as well.

And if she is pregnant, that's great! I hope everything goes well for her!

No. I knew it would be stupid, and that's why I went. For the sheer stupidity of it. I wish the two comedy geniuses of James Corden and Catherine Tate had been allowed to do more. Hopefully though since Gulliver goes to Bromdignag as well there will be no sequel. No need for a spoiler alert since the tv spots feature him in Bromdignag.

At the movie theaters, the last film I saw was Davis Guggenheim's documentary Waiting for "Superman," about the education system in the U.S. (It follows the lives of five kids with overwhelming obstacles.)

    http://www.waitingforsuperman.com/

On home video, I took a break today after watching over the past couple days a marathon of Blu-rays from Criterion Collection's box set, America Lost and Found: The BBS Story. (Going in order, the latest: Henry Jaglom's 1971 directorial debut, A Safe Place, starring an excellent Tuesday Weld as a woman who glides back and forth between past and present.)

mission impossible III: director jj abrams, who also made 'alias', certainly knows his way around the spy genre. and the film has a top-class team of supporting players, including maggie q, jonathan rhys meyers, and michelle monaghan. despite all that firepower, MI3 still feels strangely mediocre. the story is just a little too forgettable, both in style and content. and while tom cruise delivers a pretty good performance, he just isnt all that charming anymore with a face that has obviously seen the knive too many times. i want to like it, and there are good moments throughout, but ultimately it falls weirdly flat.

scott pilgrim vs. the world: they got the geeky sense of humour down pat, and the fights are some of the most impressive action scenes ive seen in a long time. the special effects are fantastic, and the cast is pretty good, too. but as almost always with movie adaptions of particularly beloved literature, i cant help but feel just a little bit disappointed, even though i had a really good time watching this film. the time constraints push some pretty important characters to the margins, particularly kim and wallace. it makes for a movie that is as funny and entertaining as the novels, but not as resonant.

Gladiator last nite ln TV - first time I have seen it start to finish - awesome in HD

In the theaters just saw "The Kings Speech" and "Another Year" - both very good with the latter better IMO - great performance by Geoffrey Rush - should win something for it

Not really a movie, but a DVD set, "The Judy Garland Show". This show was on for only one year, 1963-1964, years before I was around, but it's amazing how wonderful she was at performing. *sigh* I guess, in some ways, we all eventually fit at least one of our stereotypes: "You're gay? Well then of course you like Judy Garland!!"

As they deservedly should. I saw the film again today. It's that good. One of my favourite lines is -

"Dr McLeod warned me your Antipodean methods were ... unorthodox and controversial. I warned her that they were not two of my favourite words."
For all sad words of tongue and pen,
The saddest are these, 'It might have been.'
