    Fifty Shades of Grey
Honestly have to say it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The reviews have been horrific.
I hadn't read the books but I've just bought them, now. Beyond the BDSM stuff, which doesn't really interest me, the psychology and interplay of these two people is intriguing. Plus I'm snowed in so might as well read.

The film did have some sexual tension and the actress, Dakota Johnson (Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson's daughter) was quite good in her role. The actor who played Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) was good looking but not anything special. I didn't care about his character, there was nothing there. No warmth or concern for him. Just dull. That may be exactly how he was supposed to play it. I'll see when I read the books.

The soundtrack is totally amazing. Perfect.

Bought 3 Blu Ray movies this week, just watched one of them.

Appleseed Alpha. I am a big fan of this animated series, own all the movies. This one was done in CGI, though. Looks absolutely beautiful.

    Pacific Rim

I have seen it before but bought it on Blu Ray this week when it was on the cheap. I still enjoy the film myself, although certain things could have been a bit stronger in the film.

Another film I have seen before, but was one of the movies I ordered on Blu Ray. Great film, enough said.

Depardieu lumbers goutily through the miniseries adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo (1998). Though often faithful to the long novel, it gives short shrift to Monte Cristo's motive itself, sapping the revenge of its terror.

This afternoon I saw "Six Dance Lesson in Six Days" starring Cheyenne Jackson and Gena Rowlands. It was a very good movie and Cheyenne Jackson is a hottie! If nothing else it's worth checking out for him. The movie also costarred Rita Morena and Jacki Weaver. Funny movie and very touching at times.

    Check it out!

Nice to see that cut get some mention - I think "Alien 3" probably left/leaves many people cold because it's not the same kind of slow psychological exploration as Ridley Scott's "Alien" or the sheer adrenalin action/creature horror of James Cameron's "Aliens" but I've really come to appreciate "Alien 3" over the years for what Fincher had brought to it.

Great movie - and I liked the cinematography/editing choices, some shots held longer than might be expected or the "standard" choices (as an example, first conversation between the lead and would-be girlfriend at a theater counter runs almost a minute in a very single slow push-in shot). I see that this clip touches on the cinematography near the end of it - SPOILERS for anyone who hasn't seen the film, skip this clip if you haven't yet.

The last film I saw was last night: "You Can Count On Me" (from year 2000) with Matthew Broderick, Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo. Had actually never heard of this one until some recent film podcast segment had recommended it - nice film.

When I originally saw Alien 3 it was the theatrical cut and there is so many problems with that as just a movie itself. It was only recently that I had heard of this cut and decided to give it another go and I enjoyed it way more than I originally did. You get to know the characters better, scenes extended/changed for the better. Just pretty much everything works out better in this version, I think.

After watching this version even though it has a different feel than the previous two, it still reminds me of the original Alien. It is a single Alien, it is a predator all over again and the people are completely defenseless. It is a shame that this is not the version most people saw, because I think a lot of people would have less of an issue with the film if it was.

    Chappie

Was exactly what I expected to be. Very good film. Chappie feels so human and does so many little things that are so human like that it makes him immensely likable in the movie. Please do not let critic reviews sway your decision on seeing this. If you're familiar with Neil Blomkap movies and like them, there is no doubt you will enjoy this too.

    Manhunter.

Very good movie that apparently predates Silence of the Lambs for an adaptation of the Hannibal Lector books. Watching it I felt it was very similar in certain aspects of Silence of the Lambs, even though this movie wasn't an adaptation of that book but Red Dragon.

The worst thing...is not energy depletion, economic collapse, conventional war, or the expansion of totalitarian governments. As terrible as these catastrophes would be for us, they can be repaired in a few generations. The one process now going on that will take millions of years to correct is loss of genetic and species diversity by the destruction of natural habitats. This is the folly our descendants are least likely to forgive us.--e.o. wilson

What we do in the shadows.

It's a mokumenary from New Zealand about the private lives of vampires. As dumb as it sounds it's actually pretty funny and good. I highly recomend it to anyone who likes offbeat humor
