I watched "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" again this morning, having not watched it for about 5 years.

I am beginning to see more of the story now - before, I was more into the fighting. I feel that the film is visually rich, and the relationship between the two main characters was strained by the social norms of the time - all that love and not talking about it, dug deep and buried. It was very much a "love that dare not speak its name", but not quite between the same gender as referred to by Oscar Wilde.

I watched four almost back-to-back in very quick succession: Thor: The Dark World; enjoyed it. Ender's Game; had read the book years ago, and meh. Frozen; enjoyed it for the most part but wasn't too sure about some of the music fitting stylistically. The Hunger Games; also meh.

"A Doll's House" with Claire Bloom, Anthony Hopkins and Ralph Richardson. I couldn't sit through this play decades ago when I was younger.

Dirty Laundry. Makes me REALLY wish Rockmond Dunbar was gay or bi... that's a gorgeous well-dressed man, and you can't go wrong with Loretta Devine.

Ender's Game, excellent film apart from Harrison Ford.

Even though it was really good, it was rather long, 3 hours of movie is a bit too much.

A bad reason for a good soundtrack. The Black Belly of the Tarantula (1971).

Ennio Morricone provides the music to an otherwise boring giallo.

I have just finished Being Julia (Annette Benning, Jeremy Irons). It's been a while since I didn't see such an intense and intricate yet unconventional love story so well interpreted! Anyone else has watched it?

1)Flight, good movie until the typical AA ending. Could have been more, daring, and not so preachy at closing.
2)Chernobyl diaries , not another fucking horror movie with camera bounce and all in night. I knew it was over once the dome light went out in the stalled van.
    3) Blood Sucking Freaks. I still love watching this over and over when they strap down the girl in the dentist chair and drill a hole in her skull then pull her teeth out and shove their cocks in her mouth so she won't bite. Its a bit gross though when they soup her brains with the screwdriver, she should have learned how to give head better.

Winter's Tale. It was a bit of a strange movie. I didn't care for the Russell Crowe character. I enjoyed watching Colin Farrell in the movie. Nice eye candy.LOL

Oblivion. I was surprised at how good this movie was. The story was well written, literate and interesting. I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan but I have to say he was very good in this film and even downright hot. That's something I haven't thought since Top Gun.

Too long by as much as an hour.

Nonetheless, one of the most complex, fucked up and insightful films I've seen.

    The Act of Killing (2012).

A Hong Kong boxer is embroiled in a gloppy battle with black magicians. The Boxer's Omen (1983).

Some nifty visuals, lots of guts, and a great regurgitated-fruit eating scene.

Deepa Mehta directs Rushdie's script of Midnight's Children (2012).

I admit not being a fan of the novel, and didn't find the movie much better. But Mehta's cinematography is lovely and the film (in spite of what I find lacking in Rushdie's story) is provocative.

The Cleveland International Film Festival starts Thursday, March 20th and runs through Sunday, March 30th. They are offering 212 movie choices (actually more movies because some short ones are grouped together) including quite a few LGBT films. They'll show each just two or three times. I just bought my tickets today for nine movies. Every year I went to more until last year I saw 16, but that was too many and I needed to cut back. I will be seeing "Continental" about the baths in NYC, and "Five Dances", and "Test" among others. "Farmland" will be more of a documentary about current farming. I'm looking forward to all of these.

When I first saw Jodorowsky's The Holy Mountain (1973) in the early nineties I didn't like it. I thought its fluidity was tantamount to nonsense. Now, that strikes me as a dull and juvenile reaction to a coherent work.

Plus, fewer films are so sumptuous. If you watch it anytime soon, it's vital to seek out the restored version.
