I'm not usually into "mainstream" movies. Watched this last night with my parents and found it to be well-acted and nail-biting. I recommend.

I like Scanners a bit more than Videodrome. I think most people would probably rate those the other way around, but from his classic period, Scanners seems tighter, more stylish.

I love "Scanners" as well. I saw it upon initial theatrical release. I love 'Videodrome" because I'm a huge Blondie fan and love me some Debbie Harry. Have you seen the NC-17 cut of "Crash"? It's really good.

Also watched this film and took it at what it was unadulterated nonsense popcorn movie. Angela Bassett and Morgan Freeman were fantastic in this I have to say.

Nope. I remember being interested in it based on description of Ballard's work, but it came out to consistently bad reviews and I felt discouraged. I'll put it in my queue, though, as I trust your taste in cinema.

That trailer for Videodrome, btw, is the shit.

I just struggled through The Woman (2011) and almost turned it off. A superb premise undermined by a poppy, adolescent feel and absurd, patronizing, quasi-feminist screenwriting.

After the Matthew McConaghey thread here the other day we had to watch "Killer Joe". The gratuitous ass shots are amazing. The movie was far better than I ever expected it to be. The acting was great, the characters were well developed and I will definitely see it again. We also saw "Stargate" again, excellent!

Whores' Glory (2011) lasted an impressive 19 minutes before its inevitable feral dog scene. Rare restraint for a movie of this kind, confirmed in its personal feel and heartbreaking compassion.

I watched a film on Netflix called Mary and Max. It's an hilarious and heartbreaking clay-animated film about an Australian girl who befriends a man in New York with Asperger's. Their pen-pal relationship is touchingly portrayed.

I seriously recommend it. The mood often gets quite dark but it is a great film and very funny.

Contraband a good film that completely wasn't what I was expecting also had a strong cast.

The then The Crow, forgot how good this film was as I hadn't seen it in some time.

Right. It was worse than the second one. What a convoluted mess.

Sure, it made a billion-plus dollars but for me this starts to signal the waning of the franchise superhero blockbuster phenom. (Not even the start, really--the writing has been on the wall for a while now.)

Re: the last film you watched thread

    In Theatres:
    Insidious Chapter Two:
Not as scary as the first film but it serves its purpose in addressing the story thread left behind from the first film.
I find that a demon or demonic force is harder to understand than a ghost whose psychological history is why it remains unrested.
I felt that Rose Byrne had really nothing to do here in the film... other than be worried, a thankless role.
Oh and Patrick Wilson is one hot daddy... hmmm mmm.

    Gravity 3D:
Enjoyed it very much, sure its not a science film but good to see Sandra Bullock back in the saddle again. Great effects work, a lot of the time there are things that seem way too convenient for it to be believable but by and large, a great flick for its short runtime.
I don't understand why a lot of people are reporting getting sick from watching this in 3D, motion sickness or something. Didn't affect me in the slightest.

    Home Video DVD:
Hercules & The Adventures of Hercules:
I think out of all the Herculi in film history Lou Ferrigno is probably the best one IMHO.
He is big and comes across like something out of mythology, oh and he is hot in the film with his big chest, dark hair and... I wanna do so many nasty things to him. Too bad the films are terrible but to see that massive chest jiggling as he runs, lifts something or is just standing there with all the gay shit going on... mwwwah.
Too bad there was no nude scene although the beginning sequence in movie 1 does kind of tease a Ken doll Herc... LOL

I had no idea that the one of the chicks in the film was a Tranny... not that it mattered, there was too much beef to notice.

It's probably hyperbole to say that a movie can be "heartbreaking" as the disappointing legacy to its forbear. But such a letdown is Mother of Tears (2007) by Argento, that I think I will. It's reminiscent of Dante's Cove, which is at least enjoyable as trash. Somehow, Argento manages to achieve less than such cable-TV dreck, insinuating "menace" via "witchy" spectacles like teased hair, big belts and gobs of eyeshadow. Suzy Banyon, it's okay, I'll always love you.

Argento's film's have gone down the hill... and Mother of Tears had so much potential but that ultimately didn't deliver - however one kill - a highly graphic impaling (and painful looking) is a standout.
