I think my Noboru Iguchi (well-known in the West stuff) ratings go in this order:

    1) Machine Girl
    2) Tokyo Gore Police
    3) Mutant Girls Squad (which I just watched)
    4) RoboGeisha

Not including the wonderful F is for Fart, and haven't seen Dead Sushi yet.

    The Eagle. It was OK.

Gladiator. It was the first time I watched it. I liked it more than The Eagle.

    Martyrs (2009).

Beneath a patina of extreme violence is a really clever little movie.

Some seem to mistake its quasi-religiosity as pretense; I think Martyrs has more in common with the pop comic wit of Rosemary's Baby than the brutal illuminations of Bergman. No matter how well-crafted the storytelling, its "philosophy" isn't meant to come across too seriously.

I expected El Bulli: Cooking in Progress (2010) to be not much more than a commercial for Ferran Adria. Of course, it is. But it's also a genuine illustration of what it's like to be a chef, just slowed down a hundred-thousand fold by means of Adria's extravagant budget. Probably not interesting for a general audience unless you are bored and rich.

You can tell Romero has his heart in the right place with Land of the Dead (2005). Unfortunately, it comes across like a television episode with its hackneyed allegory, cartoon characters and bland thrills.

Olympus Has Fallen, Die Hard in The White House basically, very good forgettable nonsense.

Jack The Giant Slayer, awful from beginning to end, even Nic Hoult can't save it.

Epod85 and RR, here's Iguchi's F is for Fart, from The ABCs of Death. It's just five minutes long, and will take you beyond the boundaries of good taste.

    TED on HBO

I wasn't expecting much but it had its moments.

Ted: "Turkey burgers? Are we having homosexuals over for dinner??"

Ted: Well he only had three other batches (of weed): "Gorilla Panic", "They're coming! They're coming!" and something called "This Is Permanent"..

The Heat. One of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time.
The Long Ranger. Very disappointed with this movie. Too long and too boring. The best part of the movie was the last 1/2 hour of the movie where there was some action.

Last night I saw "The Lone Ranger". It was good and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't too special. It was given a "B" rating by the critics and I agree, it was not an "A", but was worth seeing.

    Gone In 60 Seconds (1974)

Solid car chase scene stuff for the last 40 minutes or so. The first portion of the film you can pretty much skip.

I have no idea what all the hype is about. Other than the wonderful 'Circle of Life' opening, it was only okay.

    Mad Max - 1979
    The Junkman - 1982

Been really into watching Car movies or movies with good car chase scenes in them lately. I've never been huge into cars and I don't even drive myself but I'm loving it. Although the Halicki films are a lot about the stunts and crashing cars for the sake of crashing cars, which is fine by me, they're fun to watch.

    Only God Forgives.

Good revenge film with good cinematography and style. A bit violent too, but it isn't gratuitous. The film isn't completely straight forward either, but the pieces are there to fill in the blanks.

The first time I watched My Side of the Mountain (1969) I was so young I couldn't comprehend that people spoke languages other than my own English (Canadian French, in this case.)

Decades later, it remains a terrific fantasy for anyone who feels the restorativeness of the natural world.

^ well that's worth the admission price alone.

Pacific Rim 2D version/Digital (I guess all films of this expense are digital these days)

Above average for this type of film. It's basically Transformers meets Godzilla monsters from outer space. Entertaining enough to be worth the trip. Including the storyline, which, amazingly it actually had a pretty good one. The acting is good, characters were surprisingly well developed and enjoyable to watch. Some funny lines/scenes as well. Over the top action sequences which I, personally, would NOT want to endure in 3D.

Note to any True Blood fans. The guy who plays Ben Flynn (Warlow vampire fairie) has a lead role and he looks very hot. Charlie Day is also adorkable in it. Along with the lead male actor who is absolutely gorgeous (Charlie Hunnam). Another main character is played by the hunky guy who was the ships captain in Prometheus. (Idris Elba)

I will be buying this on blu-ray just for the guy candy.

Like the last movie I mentioned above, I watched one about leaving home. In this case, it was a documentary which resonates with me romantically about those who've transitioned across borders.

    Maniac (2012)

Solid remake. Elijah Wood was properly creepy and disturbing. Solid amount of gore that just made you feel a bit uncomfortable. Awesome soundtrack, sounds like something that came from a 70's/80's horror flick.

'Botched', starring Stephen Dorff. A decent comedy horror. Not a cheesy comedy horror either. Adding it to my DVD collection for sure.

I watched "The Double" recently. A fine suspense thriller movie with plenty of twists. Some of it is given away in the beginning of the movie, but that only thickens the intrique and suspense as you are empathizing with the protagonist. Ending could have been resolve slightly better though.

I saw Fruitvale Station last night. Great movie. Very sad true story. Michael B Jordan the star of the movie is a total hottie!
