Watched "On the Town" (1949) last night with Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Ann Miller, Vera-Ellen. Remarkable movie musical. I remember seeing it for the first time on the late late show when I was young and thought it was incredible.

Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012) a lush fable about courage. I liked it, though I think it's a few steps short of being a Malick film, to which many have justifiably compared it. Many viewers seem to hate it.

Last weekend we saw a movie called "Butter" we read about it and thought it would be interesting, it turn out to be an almost perfect movie, Jennifer Garner is great as a crazy bitch, but the whole cast was great and the story is just so touching in so many ways. We also saw "Looper" it was great, well crafted and well acted, that said, it was also very confusing but in a good way, because it keeps you interested and then you realize that you most buy the dvd so you can see it over and over until you figure it all out. I tend to like this sort of films, I called them my go to collection because regardless that you know what is going to happen, they don't shove it in your face and I find it interesting to try and figure it out for myself.

Saw it last night, and I agree with you. Quentin's movies are hit and miss with me, but this one was a big hit. The movie felt like what you would get if you crossed Kill Bill with Blazing Saddles. And Samuel Jackson was kick ass as usual. Leonardo was exceptional too.

Last weekend we watched "The Talented Mr. Ripley" again, it had been a long time. It was once again amazing! Matt Damon is superb as the psycho main character and he looks absolutely edible in those green square cut bathing suit, that leaves very little to the imagination. Jude Law is so beautiful you almost want to lick the tv and Gwyneth Paltrow and Cate Blanchet are also fantastic. You go and see it now, there are also a lot of edge of your seat moments.

Two shock cinema favorites you can watch on Youtube.

Man Behind the Sun (1988) is exploitation with a paper thin narrative structure. You may as well fast-forward to the juicy horrible parts because the rest of the film is boring. I skipped through most of it. Japanese atrocities.

A Serbian Film (2010) isn't boring, by contrast, but it is silly. I found the tone to be so farfetched as to never bother me, though it's constantly cited as one of the most disturbing films ever made. A needy ex-porn star is coerced into the vilest imaginable acts.

It was awesome. I love Jams Franco. I could easily see Johnny Depp play this role, but then he would have completely destroyed the film, Franco is so much better, much hotter and fits the role. They did a pretty good job. Gives me hope that Disney won't fuck up any new Star Wars films they are planning on making.

    Lincoln.

It was released on Blu-ray and DVD Tuesday 03.26.2013. I rented it from a local video store that very day.

I post most often in the Current Events/Political forum. So, naturally Lincoln would appeal to me. A very well-crafted film. It's easy to see why it was such a strong presence at the Academy Awards and why Daniel Day-Lewis won his third statue. Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones are also terrific.

As for other "last film[s]," you watched, I can refer to my subscription for cable-television programming. It doesn't necessarily lend itself well to this thread.

Ode To Billy Joe, watched it last week end on DVD which it was just released this year on for the first time. Its one of the films made by Max Baer Jr and is about a doomed romance between the movies name sake and a girl in the south. Every thing changes when Billy Joe has a gay encounter which he is unable to come to terms with under 1950's standards of his time. Max Baer is an unrecognized pioneer in films by taking on gay issues when this film was released in 1976.

and of course since you're a frequent poster in the political section of these Forums, you possess the astuteness to discern the historical inaccuracies of the "Lincoln" film, as well.

Last Saturday night we had a double feature. This Must Be The Place and God Bless America. We choose the first based on the fact that it seem very weird and that Frances McDormand was in it and we think she is amazing, that said. The movie turned out to be an amazing journey into the lives of the characters, everyone was great, Sean Penn was incredible as the rock star freak, the story is fascinating, intriguing and we found ourselves glued to the screen. Very good indeed and one of those that you have to see more than once.

God Bless America, yes indeed. This is quickly becoming a cult classic at our house. It is brilliantly written, directed and executed. You can help but to cheer for the lead characters and their cause. It was written and directed by Bobcat Goldwaith and I must say he knocked it out of the park. I highly recommend it
