Mira Nair's The Namesake. Detailed, poignant without being sappy, and beautifully filmed. One of the best movies I've watched this year.

The Last Song w/ Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth. Yeah I know, I am gay. I was surprised at how much I liked it. Of course it helped that there was a lot of eye candy in the movie.

The Last Song.
Wasn't as great as the book was, felt more rushed to me than anything. However, it was still a fun watch.

I re-watched 1973's The Wicker Man. It's impossible to not appreciate the pleasures the farmers enjoy, including their human sacrifice.

Saw Scorcese's The Aviator for the first time the other week. Damn good movie, beautifully photographed and Leo is pretty great as he usually is.

Pirhana 3D - great fun (if a little to aimed at the straight teenage boy market). Nothing to tax the brain but nice to see a horror film doing really nasty gore on a massive scale and doing it well. Also it features Jerry O'Connel as a sleazy softcore porn director who gets a suitable comeuppance - and he played Vern in Stand By Me which was the previous film I saw.

The original version of The Last House on the Left. It hasn't aged well. The ludicrous soundtrack especially undermines whatever shock it once had.

Let's just say that Liam Neeson's character was the luckiest SOB Ever! Everything just fell into place for him to rescue his daughter. For me, it just wasn't believable.

The girl with a dragon tattoo - Well for one, and I am not sure why, but I for some reason thought that this was a semi-kids movie like Harry Potter and thought that it was also sci-fi and dealt with dragons. I have no idea why I thought this, so imagine how confused I was when I started watching it. Asking all of these questions such as why is it in swedish (or whatever language it was), how it is that they are showing a rape in a kids movie. Oh well...I thought that the movie was ok, just long.

I can't stand regular TV, so I always pop in a DVD while I'm eating or loafing. I'm currently in an Abbott & Costello phase. We have all their movies in some DVD package.
So...
