I like You and I, but it didn't really strike me as the strongest choice for a single. I agree with you that Bloody Mary or Americano would have been better choices, IMO.

If you are a singer/song writer, music comes first and fashion second.
Music is not all about fashion like lady ga.

Sorry but the Goddess known as Katy Perry puts alot of her money into her tour to make the fans happy.

I'm not completely cynical though, I realize that Lady Gaga's message of gay acceptance and the focus that Pride puts on human rights are positive things that will bear good fruit, but it does at the same time make me feel like initiatives to further gay rights are only worth as much as the amount of money you're willing to spend.

I guess I get that, I agree to an extent, and i'm not one of those people who only listens to what's popuar on the radio in fact the only recent artist I really like is Lady Gaga, I just think she's cool, and I'm glad you said she has talent, that was another point I wanted to make, just because someone is a product it doesn't mean they don't have talent, anyone on a label is a product whether they sing pop or not.

Re: I tell you! The Gaga phenomena has finished.

I don't think that Lady Gaga would want people enslaved to her.

So free choice as to whether people like her or not (whether becoming or remaining her fans or not) would be something with which she ought to be cool.

I don't see a problem with people who are former monsters biting her in the ass.

In fact, she really ought to encourage it since its self-expression and an act of free will (to bite others, including herself, in the ass).

Personally, I think that the world of music and the arts in general is ever expanding. I don't know if one needs to always spit one artist out as to like another artist. I mean, where would the Louvre be if we did that?

"BURN THE RENAISSANCE TRIPTYCHS! LOOK AT THEM MONETS!"

I just don't know if we need to HATE as to LOVE something else.

That all said, I think Lady Gaga still has of yet to prove that the meat dress was more a statement ala PETA than it was about NY delis.

Her new album is apparently complete, the title being announced in September. She has a song with Elton John on it, as well as possibly Cher.

Gaga isn't going anywhere - she's just been off the North American radar for the last six months or so, doing her international touring gig.

well, that's what happens when somebody blows up out of nowhere. they disappear the same way too. she just got real popular all of a sudden. i remember hearing that "just dance" song on z100 back in the middle of 2008 or early 08, i can't specifically remember but i know nobody knew her or was checking for her music. she wasn't on tv or even in the hype wagon and then when her next single came out, everybody was on her clit. it just made me go . what was even weirder was how a lot of gay folks gravitated to her for some reason as well. back in 09, whenever i heard a guy say that they was a lady gaga fan or loved her music i knew off the bat that he was gay.

but the question is who's next to come out of nowhere? sometimes i wonder if that whole mind control thing is true because it's just weird how a lot of people just like someone's music at the same time when they never heard of that artist before.

I both try to keep on top of "national" bands, and keep an eye on what the local scene is doing here in Denver. This Denver (by way of Boston) band was everywhere before I noticed, and I think hold rehearsals down the friggin' street from me.

Currently in mainstream/popular music the big thing is house, dance, party, club music. I think with Gaga, she came out at the time when the dance craze started happening, so she rode the wave of popularity to become a huge thing even though she was new.

But that's just one possible factor of why she became a hit so fast.

It's a misnomer and it's inaccurate to say she is no longer popular. She is very popular, but she just isn't going out in the media spotlight as much and she's on a rather busy tour (with little rest between concerts). For someone who is longer popular, making $50~ million on a tour so far seems rather impressive.

She's in Australia playing to sell out crowds - her last Australian show is tonight in Perth - and touring the world. I doubt she's "over".

She debuted a new song in Melbourne the other night or so read in the paper, something called Princess Die.

She's got staying power, but I agree with Lex in that it will be interesting in seeing how she tries to top the "schtick". I think she should go Librarian and do an album of lullabys. That would pretty much shock the shit out of everyone.

I'm not really here for Gaga like I was in her fame era.

I never felt a connection to her actually. Now that I have found my genre in EDM I really don't know what she is doing for me musically.

She is not going anywhere anytime soon. She is selling out too many concerts and has way too many followers on twitter to be losing any steam.

^ Well, I'm certainly big!, Vulgar

…but my point is that the Gaga phenomena is no different from the Madonna phenomena and the Jackson phenomena and the Beatles phenomena and the Elvis phenomena and the Frank Sinatra phenomena etc. where adolescents become obsessed with some kind of 'idol' regardless of the quality of whatever the 'idol' actually does.

The adolescents have a pack mentality and they adopt a commercial entity and worship them until the time another 'idol' is presented to them to adopt.

Pocket change huh? Doubt it. That is just the amount she made on her Asia & Oceania part of the tour. The total for her last tour (Monster Ball) was nearly $230 million. And she is well on the path of breaking that total. Katy who? She is one that has no staying power.

I'm only concerned about numbers and the truth. $43-$44 million from just her Asia tour is hugely impressive. One of the shows made her $18 million. I'm not the biggest Gaga fan either... just stating reality. I have music interests elsewhere (Latin pop, reggaeton mostly).

GiancarloC is right. It doesn't matter how anyone FEELS about Gaga...the FACT is that she's made more money than most artists out there, concerning record and digital sales she's surpassed many artists. The numbers prove it. I'm not a "Little Monster" by any means but I'll respect an artist who can develop a loyal fan-base, care about them, maintain talent, and get rich.

Katy Who? She is the one that broke records with her last album. Who knows when somebody will even match the success of her last album.

Well, Lady Gaga has broken multiple records with concert tours. She isn't even a fraction done with her tour and she's already made all that money in Asia alone. Katy Perry doesn't have the popularity Gaga has internationally.

And again, broken records with her last album? Who cares?

The Rolling Stones haven't broken any records with recent album sales, yet had one of the biggest grossing tours in 2005-2007 (which was around $560 million). Again, it's not about record sales. Artists see very little of the money from that. Gaga broke records with her first album... but again the huge majority of her money was made on tours.

FTW, as far as Katy Perry's Teenage Album sold 5.5 million world wide. Not even close to what Gaga has done. Gaga's next album will reassure her dominance, while Katy Perry seems more like a rip off.

The Rolling Stones recent albums..lol They have been in the business 100+ years. They already have a long strong fan base.

Katy will continue to dominate the airwaves while at the same time expanding her fanbase. Hell she might be the only one to break her own records since nobody can touch her album success.

As for Gaga's next album dominating? She better pray that Taylor Swift does not bitch slap her across the face while at the same time pushing her out of the way just like she did on her last album. With her new album coming in September(?) all others will be playing catch up

It was a point about ticket sales, not album sales.

Oh yea? Says who? Even Gaga's last album beat Teenage Dream in sales (better sales internationally). And Katy is fading as far as the radio is concerned... don't hear that much anymore. One Direction I hear more now.

Anyways this has been interesting. Defending an artist who I've only seen twice... and being called a "die hard" fan.. lol... when I don't even listen to pop most of the time.

Oh yea? Says who? Even Gaga's last album beat Teenage Dream in sales (better sales internationally). And Katy is fading as far as the radio is concerned... don't hear that much anymore. One Direction I hear more now.

LOL its because she has practically released her whole album as singles and after her 8th straight single, which by the way is doing very well in the charts, she has decided to take some time off.

Wait so you take offense when they call you a diehard fan since you have only seen her twice but you call me one yet I have never been to her concert...I love it

Taylor Swift who? Well...Taylor is younger, prettier, more successful than Lady Gaga plus her last album actually sold 1m+ and did I mention she is only 22..wow

Again, that's the last line of defense a Katy Perry fan has. Very little money made off her album actually goes back to her. Music artists make most of their money on tours and that's where Gaga has cleaned up time and time again. Katy Perry isn't as popular internationally, and certainly not even so in Asia (where her last album did quite poorly actually).

Taylor is none of those (and again has nothing internationally). Just a country music star that will have her time of fame for a year. I mean even One Direction is more popular then she is. Swift simply isn't more successful then Gaga... that's another lie. But hey keep it up.

If you want to talk numbers, Gaga wins on that one.

And why is it you only respond to select portions of my post? Is that how it goes around here? Most of what I listen to is considered "Latin rap" (reggaeton). Pretty excited by J LO featuring in Wisin & Yandel's new album...

Neither of them are... although Katy Perry has been talked about constantly for pretty long now and has been on top of the charts consistently.

But she was never more than just a pop singer. Gaga blew up to astronomical proportions in an instant. It would be asking a lot for her to sustain that.

Who said I was never a fan? Of course I'm a fan of Katy Perry jut not a die hard one. She is in my top 5

Taylor is more successful than Lady Gaga. Look at what Taylor has accomplish at such a young age all while being, according to you, just a "country singer". Her last album sold 1m+ its first week and is still selling.

Taylor isn't more successful then Lady Gaga. That's a nice try though. Her album did NOT do well internationally, barring England and Australia. By the way, Swift emerged earlier then Gaga did. I guess historical revisionism is your favorite thing. Even Gaga's last album had more sales in total (incl/ international sales) then Swift's last album.

Look at it this way, come with some numbers, or you don't have a case.

Oh and as long as we are talking about top artists, Gaga is probably 7 or 8th for me... in my own favorites. Some of the music I listen to is underground... so I don't equate quality = quantity.

Uhh... cause she only has like 2-3 albums out? Duh. Some of those other guys have many, many, many more. Love the twisted logic. And many of those artists have been active for like 15, 20, 30 or even 50 years (Stones)... how long has Gaga been around? 4 years.

Well, Lex (who's knowledgeable on all this) said back on the first page that Germanotta has NO longevity because she's all shock and no substance

Uh huh. He's opinionated like all the others. But hey, keep it up... not responding to the majority of my argument. She does have longevity. Try again.

People made similar arguments against the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Madonna and others when they first emerged... no longevity... lol. We see how that argument falls apart.

She will come back with some even more absurd, avant garde, heretical crap "music" that people with low IQs will worship and stick up their asses.
