I just heard BTW, and it is *terrible* with a capital S-U-X.

I've been to several forums and blogs this morning that are talking about it, and most of the reaction has been negative. But thanks to Gaga's poor attempt at an 'anthem,' she gaslit Madonna and "Express Yourself" to become a trending topic. Good. Let people hear the REAL thing, as opposed to some bogus wannabe ripoff 22 years later.

Start the 15 minute time clock on Gaga. Hopefully this is the song that kills electro-dance/pop in 2011.

Same here, I wanted to like it but was left feeling 'Is that it?' And it certainly doesn't have the 'anthem' factor.

I have to say I completely agree. I loved Lady Gaga's first album, and The Fame Monster EP, but this is just...ugh. I was expecting something great, but it's a lot worse than all of her other work. Time to take a break, Gaga, I think you've been touring and working too long.

First of all, I don't think it sounds anything like Madonna's "Express Yourself." And if there are parts of it that do, I don't think GaGa did it intentionally. I do think it's a good song, but I agree that it definitely does NOT live up to the hype! Based on her appearance at last year's VMAs, I thought it was going to be a lot more emotional than it is. But I don't think it will flop. I think it will be successful, but maybe not as successful as she thought.

The melody of the verses does sound like something that I've heard before, but I just can't quite remember what it is.

I also thought it would be a LOT more emotional and I was surprised when I first heard it, but in a good way. What could be better than a gay song like this to infiltrate in mainstream pop? What other song that explicitly talks about LGBT people has been a hit? I can't remember any. That's why I wish this song the best, and we all know it will be a hit This is exactly what she said it would be: a celebration. Not a deep over-thought track but one you just want to dance and sing out loud. Gaga made it again, and let's remember this is NOT the only song in the album, I do think there will be deep songs in it

No. When a song is far too layered (overproduced) the listener can become indifferent toward it. I've listened to this song six times now and have heard it differently every single time.

It's not 'bad' but it's not what she thought it would be, that's for certain.

I think some people had really twisted ideas of what Born This Way would be, and some still have. It's an amazing track and I'm glad that most little monsters I've talked to have LOVED it.

I'm very disappointed with BTW. I've always loved Gaga's music but this just sucks. Somewhere Madonna is cringing. As a huge Madonna fan I am appalled by how she shamelessly she ripped off 'Express Yourself'. Not to mention a bunch of other songs I hear in this record:

I don't think there's a comparison between those words if you ask me, they're in different levels. For me the chola part is not offensive and I would know since I am latin. But that's just me.

Besides, while we might never be sure of why Gaga used those words (be a good thing or just a stupid mistake) we can be sure she didn't do it in a discriminative way.

If she didn't care about LGBT people she would have stopped her support long ago. Do you realize how risky it is to release a song that explicitly express gay support? One thing is putting a gay couple kissing in a video and another thing is making straight people sing songs about gay people. And in case you are wondering, Gaga's career is strong enough and doesn't depend of gay fans, she's still supporting (and will keep doing it) cause she cares.

A gay anthem, whether it's "I Will Survive" or "The Man That Got Away," BECOMES a gay anthem because we find ourselves empathizing with the singer's passion or pain or exuberance. It's the realization that their pain is our pain too, that their joy is our joy etc. It's that our commonality has brought us together. It's ALMOST NEVER because it was written FOR GAY MEN TO HELP GAY MEN DEAL WITH BEING GAY MEN. That's just cynical and obvious. Gaga here isn't allowing us the choice of deciding whether or not this song will be a gay anthem (like "Bad Romance"), she's TELLING US that it is, and that makes it somehow less pure and less satisfying. It's contrived. I already feel manipulated.

I was going to really lay into you too, Jayden but then I read your blog. Explains allot. I don't know what to say. I literally teared up reading your Feb 6th entry. It shows you just never know what a person is going through. Truth is, I'm not surprised in a way when I think back of reading some of your posts on here since I've been a member. To quote myself from the Whitney thread: "When you see someone whom takes the time just to try and make someone else unhappy, they're just proving how unhappy *they* are. Everyone knows, when you're truly happy in your life, you naturally want everyone else to be happy in theirs. Yes, even those that have done you wrong." I think they're a so many members on this forum, in this very thread, that are in the same predicament you are in.
I'm in a really really good place in my life right now, so maybe I can't completely identify with you, but I also think there is such a thing as Karma. If you send out negative vibes, they come right back to you. Even if life is really hard, and it's hard at times for everyone, I think it's important to stay positive. You'd be surprised how much brightening someone else's day will brighten yours.
