Re: Lady Gaga - Telephone Video Premiere

Because I'm at a shitty cafe with poor reception I'm only halfway through this video and so far I'm a bit disappointed in the directing, not Gaga, and it's bothering me. The fight scene and Gaga going out with the cigg shades should've been cut, only because the acting was piss poor. This should be a lesson that you should never use your backup dancers or randomly casted folks to "act" in a video that pays homage to one of the best directors in the country. Excluding the fonts (still haven't seen the whole vid), that's the only thing Tarantino I see... well and the pussywagon.

I will write a second opinion after I fully watch it... I hope it changes.

You know, I would have liked it if it were more simple.

Have B and Gaga in a club dancing it out and shit.

Very true. The lighting in the club would've made a really good Gaga video, it was actually how I pictured it... her and her crazy outfits, too. I think because Beyonce was in the video, she should've pulled one of her epic dances somewhere in there as well.

The joke about Lady Gaga's dick was pretty funny. The costumes and hair/makeup were cool too. Still, I don't think the video is THAT amazing. It's certainly creative, but it's not epic, ground-breaking, or brilliant. It was fairly entertaining, and both Lady Gaga and Beyonce look good in the video, but it's not a video that people will be looking back on years to come.

Re: Lady Gaga - Telephone Video Premiere

Featuring Beyonce? Was she even in the video? It should've been Lady Gaga Ft. Sasha Fierce... Beyonce did her thing, I like that Snow White look on her. Also loved Gaga's telephone hat look... that yellow hair suits her so well.

So we all have different opinions of this video but I'd like to know, out of all the outfits B and Gaga used in the video, which did you like the most? :P

I'm glad they cut this scene off, I see vegas show girls not high fashion. Or will this be for Alejandro?

yes the video is entertaining, it has more fun scenes, like the ones in the opening, in prison, but they have to edit the video for tv, because it's too long.
still i don't think this outshines the bad romance video, that video was simple amazing, and is had continuity and the clothes were fantastic, not to mention the Alexander mcqueen jumpsuit and shoes.

    I love it!

I get that it was totally overhyped, and that to be honest it barely even qualifies as a 'music video'. But I think it's really well done and so entertaining.

Looks great and so fun to watch

I think I preferred Bad Romance though because it had a more cohesive plot/concept, but I do love Telephone for the fact that it's pushing the boundaries of what can be considered a 'music video'. Even moreso since it's the continuation of a running story - I wonder if there'll be a part 3?

Yeah I loved it. I thought the fashion, the dancing, the story: it was perfection. But to be honest, Gaga could have sat in front of a camera and lip-synced Telephone and I would have loved it. I love everything she puts out.

I have to agree with this as well - when I hear the song I pictured Gaga and Beyonce in a club as well. This video that we saw I thought was meant to be more eye catching andjaw dropping, it truly was entertaining and once again Gga pushed the envelope so I did love for that aspect.

But at the end of the day it was great to see two of my favorite girls singing together!

As soon as I knew the video would be 10 minutes long, I knew it wouldn't be as good as Bad Romance, (which, by the way, is just flawless). The main problem with this video is that the first 2:40 minutes are so boring. After all the hype about this video, you are really gonna start singing the song in a public phone? How predictable!

But the rest after that is really good with all the colors, fashion and insanity. I love every part that involves sandwiches, they make me LOL.

Watched it the second time skipping all the intro in prison and I like the video much better now!

Bad Romance still beats it, though.

Exactly how I felt. Actually, there were some parts in the beginning that were strong, like the intro when she was getting her pussycat doll on. I also liked that part when she came out, winked, did the MJ skip, met up with B. That part when B sang in the radio was ridiculous though, but I get it was meant to look fun. From the diner 'til the end was epic though.

Comparing the "Bad Romance" music video to "Telephone" isn't really fair, imho. Both are so totally different, and while I love both, "Telephone" was a continuation of "Paparazzi" after all. Both are essentially telling a story.

"Bad Romance" was just like fuck you all, here I am, something completely new, different, weird, and visually stunning. And it was awesome. I realize it also told a story, but not a short film

Everything this woman does is just phenomenal.

And, totally random, when I was watching the video, I thought that the girl standing directly next to her in jail before she answers the phone was her, just with brown hair.

    Turns out it's her sister

I thought the same thing, too. I was like "So is Gaga gonna play multiple roles?" What if her sister becomes another Gaga... one is enough for the world.

I liked her new video. Had some Tarantino esque film styles in there.

  26. #126

Re: Lady Gaga - Telephone Video Premiere

i was very underwhelmed by this video. most likely due to all of the hype. this was not epic in any sense of the word. another typical "out there" gaga/lachapelle/tarantino-esque inspired video. this isn't a bad video at all, even though i do prefer bad romance and paparazzi. i read the comment about gaga mentioning she wanted the video to be perfect and like an epic pop culture event. i dont think that she really said that, i dont see her thinking of herself as this big pop star making revolutionary videos. even if she did, i see her as more down to earth than that.

i think the worst part about it was the storyline. i dont think that she ever planned to continue the paparazzi video, but when brainstorming for this video someone was like "here's an idea, continue off from paparazzi and try to tie in as many elements from that video so it can be somewhat cohesive". like the minnie mouse glasses that beyonce wears, the poison, and the prison scene.

i do think that a less over the top & literal video would have been better for this song. this is a straight up dance song. plus it is kinda weird having beyonce doing the crazy gaga things. you can kinda tell she was a lil uncomfortable. i thought that she was out of her element in video phone, well compared to that she looks down right lost here. the video was hilarious if not anything else. i like gaga's hair/makeup in the scene where she answers the phone in prison, very late 80's madonna. now that i mention madonna, i just realized i think this song would have been so much more spectacular if madonna were in it instead of b. damn she needs to get together with her!

Why would you post a very hyped video, by two very popular artist, several days after it premiered, and not expect it to be already posted.

Music Video Pioneer Michel Gondry on Lady Gaga: 'I'm Not Interested'

Michel Gondry has made some of the most indelible music videos of all time for some of the biggest acts of the last two decades, including Radiohead, Björk, Foo Fighters, The White Stripes, Beck and even Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones. So when Movieline caught up with him today to discuss his forthcoming documentary Thorn in the Heart, it seemed a great opportunity to feel him out on the new vanguard of the form: Lady Gaga, whose epic “Telephone” video has swept popular culture with a fury, frenzy and inspiration not seen since the glory days of which Gondry himself was a part. His response — which swept through genre monoliths from Michael Jackson to Madonna to Marilyn Manson — was unexpected to say the least.

“I’m not interested,” he said. “To me it’s like a form of Marilyn Manson. It’s hard for me to talk about it; I’ve seen a couple of videos of hers, and not for very long. I stop watching them each time because I don’t think there’s melodies. I’m sorry to be negative. Like I’m not a big fan of Madonna. I respect her very much, but unfortunately the videos didn’t help the music in the long run. Well, I guess it helped it to survive to the point where the video was irrelevant. So music has to find its own way, which is good for the music. It becomes smaller and more alive and it’s not as crazy, except for some R&B. To me, it’s just talking about the surface. I compare it to Marilyn Manson. The music to me is very expected. I don’t think there’s anything in the tone or the melody that makes me say, ‘Oh, there’s something going on.’

“And I like commercial music,” Gondry continued. “Michael Jackson will always be my favorite pop musician; he was for years and years until his death, which was horrible to me. So I like pop culture. But to me, even if it’s popular, there is a quality in the music you have to be able to appreciate. And I don’t see it. Her melodies are very conventional. I remember when my friend and I would argue about Killing Joke. I remember him saying, ‘It’s so great!’ But I said, ‘It’s so conventional! How can you find anything original? It’s just surface!’ I don’t know, maybe the comparison is ridiculous. But the melody was very, very flat. That’s probably why they are famous. But maybe it’s considered high art just because of the way she dresses?”

That raised the question of the decline of the music video overall, the foundational art form that MTV has essential banished from network.

“But you know, in 1999 or 2000, MTV and VH1 did the 100 Best Videos of All Time — two different selections — and I had zero videos in either of them,” Gondry said. “So when people tell me I’m the ‘MTV Generation,’ I just say, ‘No.’ I never won any MTV [Video Music Awards]. Oh, except for one for a video I did for Massive Attack, actually, and I lost it. My producer was furious. He wanted to put it in his office. But I loved videos. I remember watching videos very late at night — Michael Jackson videos. The first rap videos were amazing: Run-DMC, Tone Loc, all of that was just amazing. The Beastie Boys videos were always great. But then it became very stereotyped. There was this confusion. Also: The MTV Video Awards were never about the video, but about the song. Most of the time it was just to glorify people for the wrong reason.”

Lady Gaga Says Homosexuality Isn't A Choice

Lady GaGa slams critics about telephone

Lady Gaga Says Homosexuality Isn't A Choice

Lady Gaga says people have no choice in whether or not they are gay, as she believes you are born that way.

Lady Gaga says being gay is not a choice.

The 23-year-old singer, who has previously discussed her own bisexuality at length, believes homosexual men and women are "born" that way.

Gaga - who claims her new video 'Telephone' is "groundbreaking" because she showcases lots of different types of sexuality in the nine-minute promo - said: "There are transsexual women and transgender women and suddenly it becomes poisonous and something else because there are some people in this world that believe being gay is a choice. It's not a choice, we're born this way.

"That's why for me this video is groundbreaking because it has one foot in the art community and one foot in the commercial world."

The 'Paparazzi' singer stars in the video with Beyonce Knowles - who also lends her vocals to the track - and prior to recording Gaga promised Beyonce it would be a classic.

She added in an interview 2Day FM's Kyle and Jackie O radio show: "I told Beyonce this after it aired, you'll see this video is not just great now but six months from now what this video will mean.

"Hearing people say the video is sadomasochistic or that the video promotes murder for young people, it's my personal belief that the video is getting so much attention, not because of those themes because I've done those themes before, haven't I?

"I've done those themes in many of my videos but it's because it's with Beyonce and it's because there are so many homosexual themes."

In the video Gaga kisses a female prison warden, is broken out of jail by Beyonce, kills someone and makes a poisoned sandwich for a group of truckers.

In the past the eccentric pop star has admitted she could easily fall in love with a woman.

She said: "Of course. There are no rules or limits when it comes to love. But I see love as separate from sex."
    I love her!

Re: Lady Gaga Says Homosexuality Isn't A Choice

I hate it when people call their own work "groundbreaking." Let the public decide for themselves whether your work deserves the designation, thank you very much. She is quite entertaining and it's good that she's very vocal on gay equality, but she does grate on me at times.

BTW, has she ever had men kissing men in her videos before, or is it just girl-on-girl? The last time I've seen a male-on-male kiss in a mainstream music video was in Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful". I'm cool with lesbians, but she does realize that a large percentage of the straight homophobic population gets off on seeing that stuff? Hardly groundbreaking.

That being said, yes, homosexuality is generally not a choice.

The sentiments are praiseworthy but I loathe artsy fartsy pretentiousness...the video seems eons away from the gist of the song.Shock value done to press buttons isn't shocking...and it seems more like an agenda driven video than anything else. There are a lot of great videos that press the envelope not only provocatively but thoughtfully...this one looks like one big train wreck of politically fashionable crap.

No hate here. I like her songs and her music videos are entertaining, but I find it a bit irksome that she thinks she's Michael Jackson Meets HBO. But at least she puts effort in her work, unlike most artists nowadays.

Actually, by definition, it IS shocking. As they once said about some other artists (Marilyn Manson, I think), shocking the easily shocked, and pleasing the easily pleased. That said, if she's going to be "controversial", I'm glad she's doing it in the guise of helping the cause.

Me thinks she suffers from something called delusions of grandeur. In her eyes she's some saviour of magnitude proportions but to the unwashed masses she makes catchy pop/dancey tracks and spouts a lot of drivel. I don't see anything controversial about it. It's all done in a cartoon style way that it becomes a parody and not in a good way.

No hate going on by me...loved the song when it came out, couldn't get enough of it.Her message is great, wonderful, nothing but praiseworthy but when "art" becomes the message in a song that the video is stretching beyond recognition...it just becomes pretentious. But the song is great and she has a lot of talent. She just has an equal talent, along with Adam Lambert to cause chronic eyeroll.
