    Georgia Anne Muldrow

Busy West Coast-based singer, songwriter and producer Georgia Anne Muldrow is releasing yet another album, Kingís Ballad, which is due out February 9 via Ubiquity. Last year, Muldrow released two full-lengths and produced her partner Dudley Perkinsí entire album, so this new 19-track release comes on the heels of a hot streak. Inspired by transitions both personal (her sonís first birthday) and political (the first year of the Obama administration), Kingís Ballad finds Muldrow continuing on her musical path of freeform jazz, soul and funk.

I love her. She has such a powerful voice. It's so uplifting, glorious and soulful operatic.

I love "Roses", both the original and the version with Mos Def (Btw. Mos has a decent singing voice). Loved her duet with Badu on "Master Teacher" as well.

About to check out "King's Ballad".

Georgia Anne Muldrow Album Coming in March

SomeOthaShip Connect have set a March 27th release date for Georgia Anne Muldrow's new album, Seeds.Seeds not only marks Georgia's first album as a vocalist on an outside producers instrumentation, it also marks the first full length project Madlib has produced exclusively for a female vocalist.

Says Georgia, "Not handling production and focusing strictly on the lyrics and vocals was a very different experience for me. It was as if I walked into someone else's world and built a hut. But I'm very proud of the hut we built and am excited about the release."

Muldrow, a prolific vocalist, producer and multi-instrumentalist, comes from a musical family. Her father, the late Ronald Muldrow, was a jazz musician and her mother, Rickie Byars-Beckwith, a singer with the Pharoah Sanders Ensemble and co-founder of Sound of Agape Rhythms. She's also a proud mother to her son Nokware Perkins with her life & music partner Dudley Perkins (aka Declaime). Muldrow's discography includes various pieces of work from Soul to Jazz to Hip-Hop and is as impressive as it is long for someone her age.

Lyrically Muldrow's themes on this album center around her wonder about the elements of life and the interconnected nature of the universe. The first single, "Seeds" will be released as a 7" via Fat Beats and digitally via iTunes on February 14, 2012. "Seeds" asks the people of the world to elevate their consciousness and take responsibility for the future of our children and the planet. The 7" will also feature the b-side, "Husfriend," an ode to the beauty of commitment to another person. Another highlight track, "Wind," tells an esoteric story about a fisherman and his family and how the wind carries people's stories, traditions and soul.

Muldrow and Dudley Perkins aka Declaime are set to tour the U.S. in support of Seeds in late March/April. G&D will play Jazz Cafť in London, UK on Jan. 29th and in Rennes, France on Feb. 2nd at MJC Brequigny.

    'Seeds' (album stream)

Born into a musical family, it's hardly surprising that Georgia Anne Muldrow ended up as a multi-talented artist, succeeding as a vocalist, producer and multi-instrumentalist. What may be surprising to some, however, is how prolific Muldrow's output has been over the last few years. After releasing two albums in 2011, Muldrow is back with Seeds, which will be released on March 27 via SomeOthaShip Connect. But you can stream the album now on Exclaim.ca.

The latest offering is a departure for the experimental musician, as it marks the first of her records on which she fills only the role of vocalist. Produced by Madlib, Muldrow reflected on the change of roles, saying, "Not handling production and focusing strictly on the lyrics and vocals was a very different experience for me. It was as if I walked into someone else's world and built a hut. But I'm very proud of the hut we built and am excited about the release."

A recent press release describes the LP's inspiration as drawing upon Muldrow's "wonder about the elements of life and the interconnected nature of the universe."

Listen to Georgia Anne Muldrow's brand new album Seeds below before it hits shelves on March 27. You can also order the album here on iTunes.

    Re: Georgia Anne Muldrow

    OUR RATING: ****

Georgia Anne Muldrow’s Seeds is an organic stew of jazz, soul and hip hop. Opening with a golden-era backbeat that could score a Blaxploitation flick, and followed by the syncopated chatter of Wind, Muldrow injects a cosmic energy to tracks with her signature free-form flow. Aiding in the sonic odyssey are Stones Throw regulars Madlib and Dudley Perkins (aka Declaime MC, also Muldrow’s BF), who turns up for a few verses on The Few. Smooth-as-butter coos and Madlib’s salvo of misshaped beats assemble like a smoke curl of divine soul on Kali Yuga. Muldrow crafts music as if trying to return the world to order from chaos through positive sound vibrations. The effect is pure catharsis, proving that she might actually be on some kind of celestial frequency. Dear Jazz Fest promoters: book this lady!
