    Radiohead

Radiohead plans to return to the studio next month to continue work on its next album, which began over the summer.

"The vibe in the camp is fantastic at present," guitarist Ed O'Brien wrote over the weekend on Radiohead.com. "I am so genuinely excited about what we're doing, but for obvious reasons I can't divulge anything more."

just announced on the Radiohead website that they will perform a Haiti benefit show this Sunday, January 24, at the Music Box at the Fonda in Los Angeles.

The money raised will go to Oxfam.

"We're in the middle of recording at the moment, so you'll be catching us on the fly.... but if you're up for it, then we are too," band member Phil Selway writes.

Radiohead played a Haiti benefit concert at Los Angeles' Music Box on Sunday night (Jan. 24), and while the band performed favorites like "Fake Plastic Trees," "Karma Police" and "Bodysnatchers" (ateaseweb.com has the full setlist), frontman Thom Yorke also did a solo version of "Lotus Flower," a new song he debuted last fall with his other band consisting of Flea, Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco.

Tickets for Radiohead's Haiti benefit concert were auctioned off to the highest bidders, with the most expensive one going for $2,000. When all was said and done, Yorke announced that the show had raised a total of $572,754 for Oxfam.

Thom Yorke Names New Band Atoms For Peace, Announces Tour

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke announced today (Feb. 25) that his side project, now officially named Atoms for Peace, will play an eight-date U.S. tour leading up to its performance at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival. The band's trek will kick off at New York's Roseland Ballroom on April 5-6 and hit the Santa Barbara Bowl in California on April 17, the day before its headlining gig at the Indio, Calif. fest.

Previously billed as ????, Atoms for Peace -- named after a song on Yorke's 2006 solo album "The Eraser" -- consists of Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beck drummer Joey Waronker, producer Nigel Godrich, and Forro in the Dark percussionist Mauro Refosco. Yorke first unveiled the group last October at Los Angeles' Orpheum Theater.

In a Thursday morning post on Radiohead's Dead Air Space blog, Yorke wrote, "Ok so in April the other band.. that i got together to do the eraser and other stuff u know .. Mauro, Flea, Me, Joey and Nigel is going back out to do some shows in the US.. ending with playing with Coachella. we had too much fun to just leave it there..."

Of the new Atoms for Piece moniker, Yorke said, "Hope you like the name.. it seemed bleedin' obvious."

Here are Atoms for Peace's tour dates:

Apr. 5: New York, N.Y. (Roseland Ballroom)
Apr. 6: New York, N.Y. (Roseland Ballroom)
Apr. 8: Boston, Mass. (Citi Wang Theatre)
Apr. 10: Chicago, Ill. (Aragon Ballroom)
Apr. 11: Chicago, Ill. (Aragon Ballroom)
Apr. 14: Oakland, Calif. (Fox Theater)
Apr. 15: Oakland, Calif. (Fox Theater)
Apr. 17: Santa Barbara, Calif. (Santa Barbara Bowl)

Radiohead Wrap Up New "Group of Songs"

According to a new essay by Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood for UK organization Index on Censorship, the band "have just finished another group of songs, and have begun to wonder about how to release them in a digital landscape that has changed again."

The eloquent essay is a must-read for fans of the band and music in general as Greenwood gives us a peek inside Radiohead's thought processes on releasing music in 2010. "I understand that we have become our own broadcasters and distributors, but I miss the editorialisation of music, the curatorial influences of people like John Peel or a good record label," he writes. "I liked being on a record label that had us on it, along with Blur, the Beastie Boys, and the Beatles."
He goes on: "Traditional marketplaces and media are feeling stale-- supermarkets account for around 70% of CDs sold in the UK, the charts are dominated by TV talent-show acts-- and we are trying to find ways to put out our music that feel as good as the music itself. The ability to have a say in its release, through the new technologies, is the most empowering thing of all."

Radiohead to Release New Album This Saturday

And...they're back. Radiohead have just announced their eighth full-length record, The King of Limbs. Billed as the world's first "Newspaper Album," an extravagantly packaged version of the record will be issued on May 9; however, the music itself will effectively be issued on Saturday, February 19 when digital downloads become available to those who made pre-orders.

So Radiohead have set aside the "pay what you want" patronage model that dominated the conversation surrounding the In Rainbows release, yet have retained that album's more important business aspects: Packaging their music as a high-end collectable and controlling and monetizing its leak, which has the effect of creating what these days is a rare, worldwide, collective listening experience. Once again, we all know exactly when we're first able to hear a new Radiohead record and therefore will largely all experience it together, something almost completely lost in today's pop music landscape. This in effect is also what Kanye West did so successfully with his G.O.O.D. Friday project.

The King of Limbs will be released by TBD Records in North America, XL in the UK, and Hostess Entertainment in Asia. UPDATE: The album will be out March 29 in North America and March 28 everywhere else. It'll be available on CD, 12" vinyl, and digital download.

Full information is quoted below, and pre-orders are currently being accepted at Thekingoflimbs.com. At present there is no track information.

"Radiohead's new record, The King of Limbs, is presented here as the world's first* Newspaper Album, comprising:

    * Two clear 10" vinyl records in a purpose-built record sleeve.
    * A compact disc.
    * Many large sheets of artwork, 625 tiny pieces of artwork and a full-colour piece of oxo-degradeable plastic to hold it all together.
    * The Newspaper Album comes with a digital download that is compatible with all good digital media players.
    * The Newspaper Album will be shipped on Monday 9th May 2011 you can, however, enjoy the download on Saturday 19th February 2011.
    * Shipping is included in the prices shown.
    * One lucky owner of the digital version of The King of Limbs, purchased from this website, will receive a signed 2 track 12" vinyl.
    * *"perhaps"

In the U.S., the mp3 version of the newspaper album is $48 and the WAV version is $53. In the UK, the two sets are 30 and 33; in Europe, €36 and €39; and in the rest of the world.

A digital-only presale version is also available:

"Radiohead's new record, The King of Limbs, is presented here with a choice of two digital formats:

    * MP3 version is a 320K constant bit rate file.
    * WAV version is a full CD quality uncompressed digital audio file.
    * One lucky owner of the digital version of The King of Limbs, purchased from this website, will receive a signed 2 track 12" vinyl.

The King of Limbs can be pre-ordered now and downloaded on Saturday 19th February 2011."

In the U.S., this version is $9 for mp3s and $14 for a WAV version. In the UK, 6 and 9; in Europe, €7 and €11
    Best Valentine ever, I hope!

Well, I bought the deluxe package last week so I'll be d/l the cd later this afternoon. I am giddy with anticipation. Can't wait for their tour plans behind this one, I wonder if they'll do any festivals? My fingers are crossed for either Lollapalooza or Voodoofest.

    Re: Radiohead

I've been hearing a lot of backlash with this one, even from fans. Alot of speculation about it being the first part of a double album too.
I personally love it so far. Much of it reminds me of the more blissed-out electronic-heavy songs from Hail to the Thief like The Gloaming or Backdrifts, which I always loved.
It's definitely the least aggressive and FUN album they've made. It's chock-full of repetitive beats and grooves. I'd even call it sexy. It should be great live material.

Yep, same here. I don't mind the shortage of tracks but TKOL feels unfinished. Thom sounds great, though, esp. on "Morning Mr. Magpie".

I think this is leagues better than In Rainbows, certainly more interesting, fun even. I got bored with that album very quickly. Sure, more than eight songs would be nice, but it is what it is. Seems such a silly complaint. Seriously, nobody every criticizes albums for not having enough songs, yet every single review for this album complains about its length. Would you rather there be filler, something In Rainbows and Hail to the Thief both certainly had their fair share of.
This is the most adventurous Radiohead have been in years.

No qualms that there are only 8 tracks but as I said before it just seemed incomplete. It doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy it (I was mesmerized at times and even ran to "Feral" on Wed morning).

    More Radiohead Coming This Month?

Could Radiohead surprise us with another album, or expand upon The King of Limbs, sooner than we think? More than a few people have been speculating over the past week about this, and the folks over at thekingoflimbspart2.com have assembled quite an extensive list of theories and clues as to why they think it might be happening. Think of it like Doc Jensen's EW recaps of LOST, but with Radiohead.

Listeners have been speculating over clues ranging from curious tweets from shadowy figures (assumed to be connected to the band,) to hidden coding in the MP3s they sent people who ordered the album. It's quite the read, but well worth the time. Take two Advil and head over!

It looks like Radiohead aren't done promoting their latest release, The King of Limbs, just yet.

Next month, Radiohead plan to kick off a series of limited edition 12" releases holding remixes of the King of Limbs tunes.

First up will be their tune, "Little by Little" remixed by Caribou and their song, "Lotus Flower," remixed by Jacques Greene. The 12" albums will be released via XL and Ticker Tape, available through various record shops and Radiohead's Website.

Their first round of remixes will be available July 5th.

Radiohead - Staircase (live From the Basement)

Here's a new track called Staircase, taken from our upcoming 'From The Basement' session.

And no, you're not seeing double. The doppelganger drummers are myself and Clive Deamer. Clive has long been one of my favourite drummers and so I was really excited when he agreed to perform with us. Hope you like what we've all done.

Radiohead At Ease reports that the third installment of Radiohead's series of limited edition 12" releases featuring remixes of tracks from their latest album The King of Limbs will be out "in two weeks," with Boomkat already taking pre-orders. It features a remix of "Separator" from Four Tet, as well as a Lone remix of "Feral" and a Pearson Sound remix of "Morning Mr. Magpie".

Next up from Radiohead's Tickertape label: two highly accomplished Nathan Fake and Mark Pritchard reworks of tracks from 'The King Of Limbs'. A-side we catch Nathan Fake on a swinging revision of 'Morning Mr Magpie', transposing vocal elements of the original into a feathered 2-step framework buoyed by rich subbass amidst a slow swirling cloud of tingling, slightly dissonant harmonics. B-side you're in for a treat with not one, but two Mark Pritchard remixes of 'Bloom'. Working as Harmonic 313, we're privy to a staggering mesh of fluid slowfast rhythms fluctuating somewhere between Juke and Dubstep, while epic synth washes arc overhead and Thom is turned into a chorus of alien cadence. It's honestly jaw-dropping stuff, and almost a million miles from the urgent version under his own name, taking the same track in the opposite direction down a one-way tunnel of Industrial Krautrock electronics closer to Factory Floor or Chris Carter.

I love this tune. I don't think many people appreciate this era of Radiohead, unfortunately. I'm sure they knew it wouldn't be as accessible as In Rainbows. It isn't as though Can was ever platinum-selling either. I'm glad they've been expanding on influences they've hinted at before.
At first I wasn't sold on the Basement version of Bloom, but it's managed to hook me in. Something about these sessions seem a bit sloppy and unrefined, maybe off-the-cuff. It works though, especially with some of these krautrock inspired jams, lighthearted and near-void of aggression. It's a great approach for them, and I can't wait for the tour (*crosses fingers).
Not fond of the remixes though.

I'm listening to "True Love Waits" for the past week or so. I wonder why there wasn't a studio version of it as it's such a lovely song.

Radiohead Invading 'Colbert Report' for Special Hour-Long Episode

Stephen Colbert meeting Radiohead is such a special occasion, a regular episode of "The Colbert Report" wasn't sufficient.

The Comedy Central show will air its first hour-long episode Sept. 26, when Colbert sits down with the British rock group.

Radiohead will perform four songs, featuring material off its most recent album, "The King of Limbs," as well as the recently debuted and unreleased track, "The Daily Mail." An additional song will also be performed for the online version of "The Colbert Report."

Colbert said in a statement: "I look forward to meeting the Radioheads and leveraging their anti-corporate indie cred to raise brand awareness for my sponsors."

Radiohead is performing on SNL this weekend with host Alec Baldwin. This should be a great start to the new season. Great musical guest, great host.
