I wonder if the girl on the left singing back-up (in the Jay Leno performance) is Sade's daughter. The resemblance is sorta uncanny and she appears to be around the same age as Ila. It'd be totally awesome if it was.

I think you're right. The shorter background singer is her daughter.

I think you're right. Or even the third...which I think it was, but there was no promotion or video. I think lack of promotion later on in the year, closer to the Grammy voting time at least, cost them the Album and Record of the Year nominations. Too bad, they deserved that nomination!

    Sade: The Ultimate Collection

Sade who took a decade-long hiatus before 2010's Grammy-winning comeback 'Soldier of Love,' is back with a new hits album, and Jay-Z has put his stamp on it.

'The Ultimate Collection' double-disc includes classic, whispery Sade tunes alongside three new cuts. Jay-Z appears on the new remix for 'Moon & the Sky,' which originally appeared on 'Soldier of Love.'

Back in October, the BoomBox reported on a story of Sade turning down a Jay-Z collaboration because the 'Smooth Operator' singer was "too scared." The guest feature is a high honor as Sade's song catalog -- the group has released six studio albums since 1984 -- does not include any other artist features, and many in the hip-hop and R&B community have expressed their interests for a collaboration.

With her new found strength, Sade will courageously tour the globe beginning in Baltimore on June 16, 2011, with John Legend serving as opener on the first leg. Dates for the second leg of Sade's world tour have been announced and will keep the singer on the stage in the U.S. through September.

'The Ultimate Collection' is out on May 3, but is available for pre-order starting today (March 23). With its purchase, fans will receive access to early bird tickets on March 30 for select tour dates. For more information, visit Sade.com. Source

    Hey Noc,

I'm disappointed in the uninspired choice of collaborators and the outcome.

"Love is Found" sounds like it was recorded during the same session as "Soldier of Love".

Speaking of, where is your rommie SOL these days?

I got her Ultimate Collection even though I pretty much have all her other albums. They say this is remastered so I figured I will have the originals and the remastered songs. Plus I think some might be extended version so that's always a good thing. 2nd disc has a few remixes

    Sade highlights Montreal Jazz Fest

The 32nd edition of the Montreal Jazz Fest comes to a close July 4th with a free outdoor concert by the legendary pop-rock band, the B-52s. The late night party will draw thousands of music enthusiasts to the main stage at the Place des Festivals in downtown Montreal. Surely, everyone will be dancing in the streets.

Marianne Faithfull also performs at an indoor venue on the last day of the star-studded fest, which began on June 25th. Other artists who performed at this year’s Montreal Jazz Fest included the Roots, Esperanza Spaulding, and last minute addition Prince, who in his first fest performance since 2001 took over Metropolis nightclub for two nights June 24-25.

The highlight of the jazz fest, however, was arguably Sade’s June 30th show at the Bell Center. New York Getaways Examiner flew from New York City to Montreal just to see Sade -- whom we've seen perform in Baltimore, Washington D.C., and Las Vegas. In fine voice, special guest John Legend did an adequate-albeit-a bit cheesy opening set. But it was evident that the packed audience of about 12,000 fans was there to see Sade.

In her first concert tour in ten years, the sultry, jazz-pop-soul chanteuse took the stage donning her signature sleek ponytail, big hoop earrings, and red lipstick. The 52-year-old beauty is curvier than when she arrived on the music scene a model-thin lass in 1984 with Diamond Life, but the years have been kind to this still fresh-faced beauty of mixed African and English heritage.

Helen Folasade Adu opened with her latest hit, “Soldier of Love,” from the 2010 album of the same name. The cool, stripped-down arrangement of the song gave Sade – dressed in a skin tight, black sheer shirt with patent leather sleeves, military-inspired pants, and black stilettos -- plenty of wiggle room to tease the crowd with her coyly seductive moves.

Sade is also the name of the singer’s band, which includes masterful musicians and original members Stuart Matthewman on sax and guitar and Paul Spencer Denman on bass and guitar (they formed the band Sweetback with Andrew Hale). Special lighting effects and screen visuals made the show a more polished production than previous tours and highlighted their performance as a unit. Even when Sade wasn’t singing, however, her easily recognizable profile was always silhouetted.

She promised the Montreal crowd she’d make up for lost time and she wasn’t kidding. During the two-hour, 20-song set, Sade performed most of the hits and standout songs from her six studio albums. Older songs like “Your Love is King” and “Smooth Operator” from Diamond Life, and “Love is Stronger than Pride” and “Paradise” from Stronger Than Pride seamlessly mingled with new tracks from Soldier of Love.

Proving she can dress masculine and still look feminine, for her second wardrobe change, Sade paired a crisp white shirt with a black, menswear-inspired vest and trousers. In this mode, Sade rendered a pitch perfect and sparsely arranged rendition of “Jezebel” from Promise while sitting on the right side of the stage. “Reach for the top, she said/The sun is gonna shine/Every winter was a war, she said./I gotta get what’s mine.”

“Jezebel” bled into “Is it a Crime?,” freshly reworked with a guitar solo. From there, Sade slipped from the stage and let her backup singer Leroy Osbourne have the spotlight with the crowd-pleasing “Nothing Can Come Between Us,” which he performed with her on Stronger Than Pride.

A barefoot Sade returned with her hair down in bouncy curls wearing a long white gown that hugged her womanly curves and gave a peek at her a red lace bra. In this attire, she launched into the “King of Sorrow” from Lovers Rock and “Sweetest Taboo” from Promise.

Perhaps the most riveting performance from this part of the show and the entire concert was her heart-wrenching rendering of “Pearls” from Love Deluxe. “She lives a life she didn't choose/And it hurts like brand new shoes.”

As an encore, a long red-dress clad Sade with her hair once again pulled into a perfect ponytail, performed the jubilant “Cherish the Day” from Love Deluxe. The set design morphed into the New York City skyline and an elevated Sade became part of the scenery – proving to the audience her love is indeed almost taller than the Empire State. Although this was Montreal, Sade’s homage to the Big Apple left New York Getaways Examiner beaming with pride.

Sade is on tour through September 2011. To catch this amazing show in a city near you, go to ticketmaster.com. Sade's 2-CD The Ultimate Collection is also available onlin

LOL No, I kid. He's a sweetie - I miss him and his rice 'n' beans so much!

Now that LIF video? Guuuurl mmMm...no... IMO, 'King of Sorrow' and 'Kiss of Life' are examples of what a music video should look like...I would've preferred this video to look like Madonna's 'Take a Bow' video...

    Anyway, I love this song!

I've asked the thread title be changed. Hope that's okay with everyone.

So, I saw Sade in concert last night.

For some reason, I always pegged her as a vocal lightweight. She can really sing! She added vocal flourishes to several songs, and she often sang in full chest voice. I was really impressed. Whoa!

And she's so pretty. And her British accent sounds so elegant (not every British accent does).

Big ups to Denman, Hale, and Matthewman, too. They've all kept it together for all of these years.

I'd never seen them live before. It was a very good show!

Did you see her in San Diego? Glad you had a great time.

The girl may not be a powerhouse vocally but she can "sang". If you only follow her on her recorded material you'd never know right?

This is how you do comeback:

    #1 Album around the world
    Platinum Sales worldwide
Great reviews by critics and fans
    Sold out concerts favorably reviewed.

Let's just hope it's not another 10 years before their next release.

Hot Tours: 'Glee' Live, Sade, Taylor Swift

Glee Live! In Concert! reigns as the week's No. 1 Hot Tour based on box office grosses reported for the summer concert outing which features the cast of the popular Fox television show. The tour kicked off its North American trek on May 21 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, followed by arena performances in 17 more cities before wrapping with a two-show stint at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y. on June 18. The European leg began just four days later with multiple shows in two U.K. markets, Manchester and London, followed by four shows in Dublin to close out the tour. Seven performances at London's O2 Arena from June 25th through the 30th produced a gross of £5.3 million ($8.4 million US$), the tour's top gross at a single venue. The overall gross from the tour came to $40.8 million with 485,852 tickets sold at 40 sold out concerts.

Sade takes the second slot on Hot Tours with ticket sales reported from the North American leg of her world tour that began on June 16 at Baltimore's 1st Mariner Arena. Touring in support of the album "Soldier of Love," released last year, the British singer has sold a total of 312,840 tickets for 32 performances, running from the Baltimore stop through a three-show run at Chicago's United Center on Aug. 5-7. Grosses from the North American leg total $28.8 million so far, with more to come before the tour wraps up in mid-September in the U.S. and Canada. European dates are on the itinerary for November. Reported revenue from 12 more shows on Taylor Swift's Speak Now World Tour place the country star at No. 3 with a gross of $12.6 million. The tour's North American tally now stands at $38.6 million. Veteran heavy metal band Iron Maiden follows at No. 4 with totals reported from its trek through the U.K. in July and August. With 115,582 fans in attendance for 10 sold out performances, the band grossed £4.4 million ($7.2 million US$) in its home country.

U2, ranked No. 5 this week, ended its record-breaking 360° Tour with a final performance in Canada on July 30. A sellout crowd of 66,823 at Magnetic Hill in Moncton, New Brunswick added $6.1 million to the tour's overall total that tops $736,000,000. After 110 performances, more than 7.2 million fans attended the tour that spanned June 2009 through July 2011. The 360° Tour wrapped as the highest-grossing tour on record , based on concert box office stats reported to Billboard.

Live review: Sade at the Staples Center

Whereas someone like Bruce Springsteen or Lady Gaga drives their way into the hearts of large crowds with overwhelming energy and volume, Sade on Friday controlled her environment with restraint and allure, drawing us in rather than forcing herself upon us. The only hint of bombast: images of the singer frolicking through a meadow projected onto a huge screen above the stage.

She began with “Soldier of Love,” the striking title track from her most recent album. “I've lost the use of my heart, but I'm still alive,” she sang, introducing pain and grace in the same breath, saluting the crowd like a soldier as guitarist Stuart Matthewman delivered quick bursts of tense, distorted strum and bassist Paul S. Denman roamed below with dubby bottom-end support.

Sade's singular obsession is the heart in the broadest sense: the universal beating thing that contains not only romance but also charity, compassion, tenderness and peace — one she described on “Kiss of Life” as having “tons of love inside.” Sex is the least of the singer's lyrical concerns; she focuses more on the moments pre- and post-coital: the anticipation and idealized hope of emotional connection and the snuggle and all-enveloping warmth that follows.

On Friday, Sade was better at conveying mood and delivering melody than she was at carrying her songs with voice alone, but her strength has never been her vocal range. Her talent, best expressed on “Your Love Is King” and “Love Is Stronger Than Pride,” is in her ability to adeptly convey the emotion of her lyrics, which approach matters of the heart without slipping into melodrama — save a few near misses.

At her best, as on “The Sweetest Taboo,” her voice not only sang but also hummed and whispered as though she were telling us an urgent secret: that true love and endless passion are possible. The aspirational sentiment at the song's center — “Every day is Christmas, and every night is New Year's Eve” — may be unrealistic, but her gift lies in her confidence in expressing both the simplicity and complexity of love.

A well-imagined stage set enveloped Sade. Silken and velvet curtains rose as if out of nowhere and then cascaded down onto the floor with each passing song. Images of the seasons projected onto white fabric surrounded her, making her look like a Vogue spread come to life. Close-up photos of her freckled face and sparkling eyes, a tender smile on her face, eclipsed the presence of the singer herself onstage. Indeed, she may be the most graceful, elegant megalomaniac in pop music (with apologies to Cher).

But she's certainly not selfish. Her charity felt absolutely genuine, and it extended from the crowd to her band, roughly the same core lineup as when they released their debut album in 1984. She offered wide open space for solos (guitarist Matthewman doubled as the band's saxophonist and worked hard during the show), which she punctuated with loving smiles at each conclusion.

This bond among singer, band and crowd was best illustrated near the end of the show, after a delicate version of “By Your Side.” Onstage, the members mingled and hugged one another as the crowd applauded, and it felt like a gathering of people who'd just shared a few hours of idealized love together, an experience, like a summer meadow, beautiful but ephemeral.

and it's doing very well with tickets sales too.

Sade tops this week's list of Hot Tours with box office grosses reported from a three-show run at Staples Center in Los Angeles as its world tour continues in North America through mid-September. The 20,000-seat arena hosted the tour on Aug. 19, 20 and 21 with a total attendance of 40,810 for all three sold out performances. The $4.7 million gross in Los Angeles is the Sade tour's highest ticket sales total reported since launching earlier this year.
