Yeah, I think the song would've been better without Jay.

LOL No, I kid. He's a sweetie - I miss him and his rice 'n' beans so much!

Now that LIF video? Guuuurl mmMm...no... IMO, 'King of Sorrow' and 'Kiss of Life' are examples of what a music video should look like...I would've preferred this video to look like Madonna's 'Take a Bow' video...

    Anyway, I love this song!

I've asked the thread title be changed. Hope that's okay with everyone.

Honestly, I would have preferred another song as single/video.

What did you request the thread to be changed to?

The Sade Mega Thread or something along those lines?

So, I saw Sade in concert last night.

For some reason, I always pegged her as a vocal lightweight. She can really sing! She added vocal flourishes to several songs, and she often sang in full chest voice. I was really impressed. Whoa!

And she's so pretty. And her British accent sounds so elegant (not every British accent does).

Big ups to Denman, Hale, and Matthewman, too. They've all kept it together for all of these years.

I'd never seen them live before. It was a very good show!

Did you see her in San Diego? Glad you had a great time.

The girl may not be a powerhouse vocally but she can "sang". If you only follow her on her recorded material you'd never know right?

This is how you do comeback:

    #1 Album around the world
    Platinum Sales worldwide
Great reviews by critics and fans
    Sold out concerts favorably reviewed.

Let's just hope it's not another 10 years before their next release.

Hot Tours: 'Glee' Live, Sade, Taylor Swift

Glee Live! In Concert! reigns as the week's No. 1 Hot Tour based on box office grosses reported for the summer concert outing which features the cast of the popular Fox television show. The tour kicked off its North American trek on May 21 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, followed by arena performances in 17 more cities before wrapping with a two-show stint at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y. on June 18. The European leg began just four days later with multiple shows in two U.K. markets, Manchester and London, followed by four shows in Dublin to close out the tour. Seven performances at London's O2 Arena from June 25th through the 30th produced a gross of £5.3 million ($8.4 million US$), the tour's top gross at a single venue. The overall gross from the tour came to $40.8 million with 485,852 tickets sold at 40 sold out concerts.

Sade takes the second slot on Hot Tours with ticket sales reported from the North American leg of her world tour that began on June 16 at Baltimore's 1st Mariner Arena. Touring in support of the album "Soldier of Love," released last year, the British singer has sold a total of 312,840 tickets for 32 performances, running from the Baltimore stop through a three-show run at Chicago's United Center on Aug. 5-7. Grosses from the North American leg total $28.8 million so far, with more to come before the tour wraps up in mid-September in the U.S. and Canada. European dates are on the itinerary for November. Reported revenue from 12 more shows on Taylor Swift's Speak Now World Tour place the country star at No. 3 with a gross of $12.6 million. The tour's North American tally now stands at $38.6 million. Veteran heavy metal band Iron Maiden follows at No. 4 with totals reported from its trek through the U.K. in July and August. With 115,582 fans in attendance for 10 sold out performances, the band grossed £4.4 million ($7.2 million US$) in its home country.

U2, ranked No. 5 this week, ended its record-breaking 360° Tour with a final performance in Canada on July 30. A sellout crowd of 66,823 at Magnetic Hill in Moncton, New Brunswick added $6.1 million to the tour's overall total that tops $736,000,000. After 110 performances, more than 7.2 million fans attended the tour that spanned June 2009 through July 2011. The 360° Tour wrapped as the highest-grossing tour on record , based on concert box office stats reported to Billboard.

Live review: Sade at the Staples Center

Whereas someone like Bruce Springsteen or Lady Gaga drives their way into the hearts of large crowds with overwhelming energy and volume, Sade on Friday controlled her environment with restraint and allure, drawing us in rather than forcing herself upon us. The only hint of bombast: images of the singer frolicking through a meadow projected onto a huge screen above the stage.

She began with “Soldier of Love,” the striking title track from her most recent album. “I've lost the use of my heart, but I'm still alive,” she sang, introducing pain and grace in the same breath, saluting the crowd like a soldier as guitarist Stuart Matthewman delivered quick bursts of tense, distorted strum and bassist Paul S. Denman roamed below with dubby bottom-end support.

Sade's singular obsession is the heart in the broadest sense: the universal beating thing that contains not only romance but also charity, compassion, tenderness and peace — one she described on “Kiss of Life” as having “tons of love inside.” Sex is the least of the singer's lyrical concerns; she focuses more on the moments pre- and post-coital: the anticipation and idealized hope of emotional connection and the snuggle and all-enveloping warmth that follows.

On Friday, Sade was better at conveying mood and delivering melody than she was at carrying her songs with voice alone, but her strength has never been her vocal range. Her talent, best expressed on “Your Love Is King” and “Love Is Stronger Than Pride,” is in her ability to adeptly convey the emotion of her lyrics, which approach matters of the heart without slipping into melodrama — save a few near misses.

At her best, as on “The Sweetest Taboo,” her voice not only sang but also hummed and whispered as though she were telling us an urgent secret: that true love and endless passion are possible. The aspirational sentiment at the song's center — “Every day is Christmas, and every night is New Year's Eve” — may be unrealistic, but her gift lies in her confidence in expressing both the simplicity and complexity of love.

A well-imagined stage set enveloped Sade. Silken and velvet curtains rose as if out of nowhere and then cascaded down onto the floor with each passing song. Images of the seasons projected onto white fabric surrounded her, making her look like a Vogue spread come to life. Close-up photos of her freckled face and sparkling eyes, a tender smile on her face, eclipsed the presence of the singer herself onstage. Indeed, she may be the most graceful, elegant megalomaniac in pop music (with apologies to Cher).

But she's certainly not selfish. Her charity felt absolutely genuine, and it extended from the crowd to her band, roughly the same core lineup as when they released their debut album in 1984. She offered wide open space for solos (guitarist Matthewman doubled as the band's saxophonist and worked hard during the show), which she punctuated with loving smiles at each conclusion.

This bond among singer, band and crowd was best illustrated near the end of the show, after a delicate version of “By Your Side.” Onstage, the members mingled and hugged one another as the crowd applauded, and it felt like a gathering of people who'd just shared a few hours of idealized love together, an experience, like a summer meadow, beautiful but ephemeral.

    Re: The Official SADE thread

for some reason i thought I had posted this:

    Sade: The Billboard Cover Story

PPreparing for a 100-plus-date international concert tour is daunting for even the most seasoned musical acts. Doing so after a lengthy absence from the marketplace presents a whole other set of challenges. But unconventional English singer Sade Adu, whose similarly named band recently embarked on its first North American tour since 2001, decided it was best to not prepare at all.

"I do the opposite and pretend it's not going to happen, immersing myself in the details of production as a way of distracting myself from reality," Adu says. "When the time comes, I don't test the waters -- I just jump straight in."

The vocalist's instincts served her well. Boasting visually stunning production elements and a strong package with John Legend, who opens all U.S. dates, the critically acclaimed, Live Nation-produced arena tour -- which follows the 2010 release of Sade's sixth studio album, "Soldier of Love" (Epic Records) -- has become one of the biggest success stories of the concert business this summer. This is good news for the touring industry, which looks to be on the rebound after last year's bloodbath: Numerous tours and concerts were postponed, canceled or reconfigured for various reasons.

The North American leg of Sade's tour, which launched June 16 with a sellout at Baltimore's 1st Mariner Arena, had grossed $31.4 million and drew 345,441 concert-goers to 36 concerts through Aug. 14, according to Billboard Boxscore. Sixteen of those were sellouts. As of June 1, the band ranks as the eighth-highest-grossing tour based on reported boxscores. It trails Glee Live! In Concert! (No. 7), Roger Waters (No. 6) and Bon Jovi (No. 5). English pop group Take That is No. 1. Attendance-wise, Sade ranks No. 7. Ticket prices for the band range from $20 to $180 in various markets.

In addition to performances of such classics as "Smooth Operator," "Is It a Crime?" and "The Sweetest Taboo," Sade's two-hour set features a jumbo-sized LED screen projecting videos and dazzling imagery behind Adu and the eight other musicians onstage. To help achieve the breathtaking atmosphere, Sade brought on longtime collaborator Sophie Muller as creative director and hired Baz Halpin -- known for his work on tours by P!nk and Tina Turner, among others -- to handle production and lighting design.

"The way she has been involved in setting up the show has enabled her to really develop as a performer," says Muller, who's also filming a concert DVD of the tour, which will likely be released next year through Epic. "Normally she's reticent, and a less-is-more performer. This time she's blossomed. You can tell that the audience feels that."

Brad Wavra, senior VP of touring at Live Nation, the world's largest show promoter, estimates that the ambitious 54-date North American outing could gross up to $47 million by the time it wraps Sept. 12 at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va. The tour will continue with dates in Europe, South America and Australia, but the North American gross alone should easily secure Sade a respectable ranking on Billboard's year-end list of the top 25 highest-grossing tours of 2011. "Sade is a rare jewel," Wavra says. "It feels like I'm working with Miles Davis, Elvis Presley and the Beatles all rolled into one."

    TEN YEARS IN THE MAKING

A decade has passed since Adu, Stuart Matthewman (guitar/saxophone), Andrew Hale (keyboards) and Paul Denman (bass) -- collectively known as Sade -- last gave North American fans a live taste of their flawless blend of R&B, soul, jazz and soft rock. The quartet's 2001 amphitheater trek ranked No. 13 on Billboard's year-end tally, grossing $26.5 million and drawing more than 491,000 fans to 42 concerts. The tour, produced by Clear Channel Entertainment (now Live Nation), featured R&B singer India.Arie as the opener and supported Sade's fifth studio set, "Lovers Rock," released on Epic in 2000. The album peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and has sold 3.9 million units, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

In the years that followed, Adu, widely known for avoiding the media spotlight, enjoyed her private life, focusing mostly on raising her teenage daughter. In 2008, the singer decided she again had something to say musically. So the four-piece reconvened for the first time since the Lovers Rock tour at Peter Gabriel's Real World studio, located near Adu's home in the countryside of southwest England. The band jumped at the opportunity to work on a new album. Denman took a break from managing his son's punk band, Orange. Matthewman put his film soundtrack work on hold (2003's "Northfork," 2006's "The Astronaut Farmer"). And Hale set aside his A&R consultancy (it has executive-produced Burt Bacharach's 2005 album "At This Time" and scored music for videogames "The Getaway" and "L.A. Noire").

Sade completed "Soldier of Love" in 2009. The 10-song set debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in February 2010 with 502,000 copies sold -- the band's best sales week since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. The album has sold 1.3 million copies in the United States, and was last year's seventh-highest-selling album, according to SoundScan.

Matthewman notes that Adu operates in a much slower time zone than the rest of the music industry. "She just has a different view of time than the rest of us do," he says. "She'll think that five years ago was just one year."

Since 1992, the band has released only three studio albums, each supported by North American tours. ("Love Deluxe" arrived in 1992, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard 200; it's sold 3.4 million copies, according to SoundScan.) Sade manager Roger Davies says that he learned a long time ago not to push Adu to work on new material. "Everyone pretty much knows that she makes records when she feels it's the right time and has the creative feeling to do it," says Davies, who also represents P!nk, Turner, Cher and Joe Cocker. "I don't think she'd put out a record in a rush, or if she didn't think it was right."

If album sales are any indicator, Sade fans don't seem to mind the long stretch between releases. Since Sade's 1984 debut, "Diamond Life," the RIAA has certified Sade for 23.5 million albums sold in the United States. The act has also racked up nine hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and 19 tracks on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The title track from "Soldier of Love" peaked at No. 6 on the latter tally -- Sade's highest-charting single since 1988, when "Nothing Can Come Between Us," from "Stronger Than Pride," hit No. 3.

    really like this cover version:

Sade's 'Sweetest Taboo' - a lesson in ice-cool, laid back soul is taken on with expert care by Slow Hands who mellows the steamy funk groove adding in blended new vox that surges through its veins in breathless reprise. With sultry atmospheres running deep, this slow-jam is for lovers breaking dawn and carrying on.

Hailing from New York City, Slow Hands aka Ryan Cavanagh is a purveyor of deep, burning grooves for dimly lit rooms, making him a Wolf + Lamb favourite since he was discovered in 2009. After getting his debut release 'Fast Tongue' on the label's widely praised 'Significant Others EP' Slow Hands indulges his passion in numerous side projects and continues to bestow his sexy 'make-out disco' rhythms on the world.

Sade Steps Back Into Spotlight With 'Bring Me Home'

New live DVD/CD includes rare behind-the-scenes footage

After nearly three decades of making music, Sade Adu still has a hard time letting fans in, preferring to limit her press ops and take decade-long stretches between new album releases. But the British-Nigerian singer and her band are inching back towards the spotlight with the May 22nd DVD/CD and Blu-ray release of Bring Me Home - Live 2011, which chronicles their mega-successful Sade Live tour. The 54-date trek touched down in Europe, America, Australia and Asia and celebrated Sade's platinum-certified 2010 LP, Soldier of Love.
