Vampire Weekend is love. Thanks for posting this.![]()
Judge me if you want. We're all going to die one day...and I plan on deserving it.
that was different
Different for them or in general?
Here's another new one "Cousins".
XL will drop the single digitally on November 17 and on 7" on December 15.
The single's A-side is the Contra track "Cousins", and the B-side is "California English Pt. 2". The Contra tracklist includes a song called "California English".

^Now that's strangely delightful.
I heard Horchata a few weeks ago.
It's a free download off their website, if anyone's interested, and it's the first track on their new album, which is out January 15th i think
yeah, i love that album cover.
not crazy about the lead single, though.
Nice, me likes!![]()
mm I like both cousins and horchata
Yeah, love the cover. So WASPy.
Whatever happened to that white dog poop from the '70s?
New track "White Sky" now streaming on http://www.myspace.com/vampireweekend
Another band I keep thinking I'm supposed to like but don't. I certainly don't dislike anything I've heard from them ("A Punk" and "Cousins" were both OK), but nothing really clicked.
Lex
i'm incredibly attracted to every member of that band. they are HOT in my book. that's just a bonus to how amazing their music is
^^Yeah, Ezra(the frontman) is a hottie. He has a girlfriend though. Too bad
Someone let me know when their new album Contra leaks
Tuesday, January 5:
CBS: Late Show With David Letterman: Vampire Weekend
i used to absolutely hate their music and now i'm kind of obsessed... i'm really late on the wagon. one day i listened to Oxford Comma and it just clicked for me how great it is. their first album really reminds me of Paul Simon, which is always a plus. i like what i've heard of Contra too.
P.S: Contra leaked the end of last week
just 'cause i'm shallow doesn't mean that i'm heartless
just 'cause i'm heartless doesn't mean that i'm mean
Contra is streaming on vampireweekend.com and their MySpace page now. i kind of can't stop listening to it. "Holiday", "Run", "Horchata" and "Cousins" are all really great.
just 'cause i'm shallow doesn't mean that i'm heartless
just 'cause i'm heartless doesn't mean that i'm mean

Vampire Weekend Eyes No. 1 On Billboard 200
Vampire Weekend's sophomore album "Contra" is looking like a good bet for No. 1 on this week's Billboard 200 chart. Based on first day sales numbers, industry sources are projecting that the album could sell between 60,000 to 75,000 copies, by week's end on Sunday, Jan. 17. That total would also make "Contra" the week's highest chart debut.
Ke$ha's "Animal" will likely slide out of its current No. 1 position to make way for Vampire Weekend, though it's too early to tell what kind of second-week sales drop "Animal" may face.
Vampire Weekend's self-titled debut album entered and peaked on the Billboard 200 at No. 17 with 28,000 a little under two years ago. It has sold far sold 491,000 in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan.

New York band Vampire Weekend sees its sophomore set "Contra" debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 124,000 copies sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. The set is only the 12th independently distributed album to top the Billboard 200 chart since SoundScan began powering the list in May of 1991.
Vampire Weekend not only celebrates its first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, but the New York band also notches its best sales week yet. The quartet's previous best sales frame was earned when its self-titled first album opened with 28,000 copies in its opening week. That set debuted and peaked at No. 17 on the chart and has since sold 498,000.

Interview in OUT Magazine by gay band member Rostam Batmanglij
In the spring of 2006, Columbia University senior Rostam Batmanglij was entertaining literary society parties with his fledgling postmodern Afro-pop band, Vampire Weekend, and wondering if he could pull off life as a professional musician. By the spring of 2008, he was playing the band’s runaway hit single, “A-Punk,” on Saturday Night Live. Vampire Weekend’s self-titled debut had been out only a few months, but fans and critics had been clamoring over it for most of the year. After months of feverish blog hype and the release of an EP that only stoked the fires, the band landed on the March 2008 cover of Spin, which annointed them the year ’s Best New Band before their album had even come out -- a first in the magazine’s history. Looking back, it still seems insane that a bunch of cerebral schoolboys in pastel cardigans could go from cramming at the library to performing on SNL in the span of a couple of semesters. But according to Batmanglij -- the band’s producer, co-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and sole gay member -- Vampire Weekend was meant to be huge. “We all had a strong feeling about the band from the early days,” he says. “We had this opportunity to be really out there and avant-garde, but also commercially successful.”

they sounded really great on SNL, which usually isn't the case on SNL.
just 'cause i'm shallow doesn't mean that i'm heartless
just 'cause i'm heartless doesn't mean that i'm mean
damn, they took it down already.
love this band...when i hear cuts off their first album it brings back memories of my undergrad days up in berkeley
contra definitely has a different sound from their first album but it still has its share of catchy tracks....holiday, cousins, giving up the gun
"Diplomat's Son" is probably the best song on the album, that and "Run". I love Vampire Weekend.

Vampire Weekend 'Contra' model discovered she was on cover 'when daughter bought album'
Ann Kirsten Kennis' lawyer says she has no idea how band got hold of 'Polaroid' snap
The model on the cover of Vampire Weekend's album 'Contra' says she does not know how the image came to the band's attention – and only found out she was on the record when her daughter saw it.
Ann Kirsten Kennis is suing the band and photographer Tod Brody, who licensed the photograph to them, for $2 million, claiming that her signature on the contract to use the image was forged.
"It was taken by her family," Kennis' lawyer Alan Neigher told Ew.com. "It was a Polaroid, not a modelling picture. Her mother was a chronic Polaroid snapshot taker, and used to sell whole archives of photographs to these shops, five bucks a hundred or whatever. Her mother may have given away to a charity bazaar a whole ream of photographs. We just really don't know… She has no idea how that photograph got into the photographer's hands."
According to Neigher, the former model, who now lives in Connecticut, only discovered her cover star role when her teenage daughter brought the album.
"Her daughter came home one day and said, 'Hi Mum, see your picture?'" he explained.
However, photographer Brody disputes that version of events and Kennis' claim that he did not take the photo.
"Ms Kennis' claim that I didn't take the photo is blatantly false," he told EW. "I took the photo in 1983. The photo was in my possession the entire time, for 26 years, until it was delivered to Vampire Weekend."
The band themselves have told NME they find the situation "frustrating"[/ul], with frontman Ezra Koenig explaining the band cannot comment on the legal proceedings further.
"There's nothing we can say about it," he said. "We're not trying to be mysterious. I imagine in the next few months there'll be plenty to talk about. Given it's our first time we just want to do it properly."
Meanwhile, the band's label XL Recordings have issued the following statement: "As is standard practice, Vampire Weekend and XL Recordings licensed the rights to use the photo on the cover of 'Contra' pursuant to a license agreement that contains representations and warranties authorizing this use of the photo.
"Now that a lawsuit has been filed, we look forward to having the matter resolved in court. We will be filing our response after we have had an opportunity to review the allegations. Consistent with our practice, we will not be commenting further about the pending litigation at this time."

Vampire Weekend's Third Album Due May 7
Vampire Weekend, whose last LP "Contra" hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200, have announced their anticipated third LP will drop May 7 via XL Recordings.
So far, that's about all that's been confirmed in regards to the Brooklyn indie rockers' latest offering. "LP3 COMPLETE" reads the intro on the band's official website, which bears the tiny letters "MVOTC" in the bottom left corner.
There's been no title or album art announced yet, though the record will most likely include "Unbelievers," a new track debuted last October on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"
2010's "Contra" spent 41 weeks on the Billboard 200 and sold 124,000 copies during its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
