Irredeemably bad. Watched almost an entire episode to see what the big deal was. Painful. Very painful. The Gay Kid was the worst, followed by the Lesbian Gym Teacher. The Bad Boy and Cute Guy were OK, and the Unpopular Girl I kind of liked, but what a colossal waste of time! It's actually the only episodal network television I've watched in years. I doubt I'll be back soon.

I've never watched the thing and don't intend to start.

But it sounds like it could be fun if one could turn it into a drinking game.

Not that it matters much to those who won't watch the show ever again, but the gym teacher, played by a lesbian actress, has so far only shown herself to be straight. She had a fling with the local egotistical anchorman.

Some of the shit she says is priceless. Last night when a new teacher dared to laugh at her, she threatened to kick her "in the taco." I could not believe I had just heard that on network tv. lol

Actually, the reviewer on afterelton.com does just that. Whenever something is too contrived or pushes the boundaries of believability too much, he says in his review to "take a shot."

You could do that a lot with Glee.

    Take a shot when:

Mr. Shue acts smug and self-righteous
    Sue insults his hair
    Kurt gesticulates
    Santanna glares
    Emma cleans something
    Someone tells off Rachel
Rachel is annoying (keep multiple bottles handy)
    Finn looks confused
    Brittany utters a non sequitur
    auto-tuning
    two songs get mashed up
Mercedes belts it out at the end (although the character has drawn attention to it)
    Kurt mentions who he's wearing
"The other Asian" hops out of the background to show his slick dance moves

Call me a "go-for-the-predictable-plotline-formula" schmuck, but I've found some of the story lines on Glee truly poignant, and others Laugh Out Loud - and I could listen to Lea Michele's voice ALL day.

That said, by all means, disparage if you want to disparage. Just use the remote. There's always DWTS, Two and Half Men, and Jerry Springer. I think they all have more viewers than Glee. Good for them.

I also have this sinking feeling that LOST is not gonna deliver in the final episodes.

Ah, you see, in concept that is quite clever. I could get behind something like that, to a point, if I could see the point of them going to all the trouble. Perhaps the writing really just isn't quite up to scratch, or perhaps I'm just a thicky.

But sitting through the one episode I sat through was a bit of an ask (bearing in mind I avoid people singing - X-country's Idol, X-country's got talent, X-factor etc - like the plague), so I don't have the inclination to give it a second go. It's 2nd run here is an awkward timeslot so I'll have to record it and find time to watch it later and really that seems at this point more trouble than it's worth.

In Jasun's defense, I wasn't a fan of the Madonna episode either. It left me feeling sour. I much prefer the episodes with a better balance of music and story.

Um, the LOTR movies were epic. Mostly because they took the disjointed verbose books, which were "six half-books of people walking to a volcane", and made it a coherent epic action adventure.

Harry Potter is great for many reasons, not the least of which is it is a solid children's series. Too many people forget this and criticize it for being juvenile. It actually matured with age.

Question - What is Auto-Tune? Something that makes the singer sound better?

It's a computer program that puts people who can't sing in tune... well.. in tune.

It can also put them in time, it can fix pronunciation and actually make it sound like people who can't sing CAN sing.

It's how most pop stars today manage to carry it off, sadly.

Love Glee, it's something to look forward to after a shiteous week.

I wouldn't call it anything revolutionary though and in all honesty I'm shocked they were invited to be on Oprah.

I mean, really? No wonder the bitch is wrapping up her show.

Actually, Glee is not solely marketed to a teen audience. The show has been often dominated by the adult characters' storylines. Indeed, the pilot's central character was arguably the teacher who advises the glee club. The adult plotlines are one of the reasons the show does well in a variety of demographic groups instead of just the Tweens.

Re: So I finally broke down and watched an episode of Glee.

It didn't hook me and I love musicals.

I guess I don't really care for cover songs, but I might give it a second chance sometime. I definitely couldn't see what the fuss is all about.

But, I'm sometimes completely out of tune with everyone else. I don't think not watching Seinfeld ever hurt it's ratings, so I don't think I'll be a threat to Glee's popularity either.

Well, I downloaded and watched Episodes 1 & 2 from Season 1 today, and I actually quite enjoyed it.

So it wasn't the best written, most dramatic, thrilling, and funny show I've ever seen.. But in all honesty, I'll stick with it, and watch the rest. I enjoyed what I saw, and that's what counts; something about it kept me drawn in and entertained!

When a friend suggested this show to me in the first season, I went into Hulu and saw a few minutes of it and thought - NO way! what is he thinking????

Not long before this second season started, I took another look at it, laughed a little and gave it a chance - now, I LOVE IT. You can't take it seriously! Look at it for what it is, silly drama with funky/retro musical numbers thrown in. Sue Sylvester is fucking hysterical! Call it campy, I suppose. I can understand why people hate it - as they burst into song sounding like they're in a recording studio, it just doesn't make much sense. I just see it as a completely mindless hour during a weekday evening I can laugh at and even sing along with, it is PRICELESS.

For some unknown reason it looks as if the producers are taking the 'drama' angle as of late. I guess they fail to realize that comedies (unless black) don't need to be taken seriously. They're trying to humanize caricatures and it's coming off as awkward.

"Jesses Girl" was some good stuff too but i think Kurts solo was the highlight; So much emotion, so much power, i felt what he was feeling and i even clapped afterwards lol. The actor could probably use this episode for Emmy consideration.

Pretty good episode tonight. Puck was hilarious. Also, I loved the scenes with Kurt and his dad. Kurt's solo was the highlight of the episode. Ooh, and "The Boy is Mine."

LoL @ Rachel's shitty version of "The Climb" sounding better than Miley's.

I was mesmerized by Kurt's take on Rose's Turn. He needs to be nominated for an Emmy. The scenes with his father are the best drama in the show.

So, it appears many of us may have been right to suspect that Idina Menzel's character is Rachel's birth mother.

I really can't stand Kurt. His dad is totally supportive of everything he does and hhe's still being a whiny little bitch. Finn's dad died when he was a baby. Kurt should stop being selfish. It would be one thing is his dad had a bad relationship with him, but he doesnt. So Kurt's behavior just doesnt make any sense.

Puck is still kinda hot but w/o the mohawk he is MUCH less hot. It's incredible what a difference that hair makes.

Although I prefer to forget the whole Let's Get Physical episode, I'm loving Glee so much these days. And last night's episode was stunning.

Puck (and others) had so many great lines. Great to see Mercedes get more spotlight. And Kurt was miraculous. I don't know how this show actually gets broadcast, because I don't expect such good things on TV.

If it doesn't make it past another season, it's not because the show is a failure but because the TV viewing audience is full of simpletons. There have been many wonderful shows that couldn't get ratings.

Kurt and his dad - and the creators - deserve kudos for their big scene last night. And how great is it that the emotional core of this show about high schoolers is so often about the connection between a parent and child, instead of only the usual teen dramas?

Other than that he's a teenager and not the Buddha.

People often do things that aren't logical, that aren't thoughtful and don't serve them well. And teenagers more than most. They're just figuring this stuff out.

I think that's kind of the point of the show, and fiction in general.

The first season of Glee was great. The latest few episodes... not so much. The Madonna episode was fab, but only because of the gimmick. I'm fearing Glee has lost its shine, but I'm holding onto it.

Ah well, I will always have the first season to love and cherish.

i bet you can't name even one of her redeeming qualities.
I didn't see she had any, really, other than when she got called out on her cuntishness, she did that "Strangers with Candy My Daddy's In A Coma" thing of using the excuse that her sister was disabled as a reason for being a cunt.

It was funny when Amy Sedaris did it because it was obviously just her using it as an excuse for comedic effect. This was just a bitchy character giving herself a pass for being a bitch because she had a hard life. YOU try that in the real world and see how far it gets you.

Don't know who that is, but I get your point. Which is why I didn't say she wasn't a lesbian.

a co-worker asked me a few days ago to swapped days off with him, it was really urgent and "you'd really me helping me out, i'll make it upto you"

so I tried to swap the days and re-arranged the rotas etc.....

finally managed to get it done, asked him what was so important and he said

"it's my last chance to watch glee before I go on holiday"

woops didn't read the title carefully enough.
that being said, i didn't realize you can fully develop characters within one episode. even more, i didn't realize you could fully understand character within the length of one RANDOM episode.

people would take your criticisms more seriously if you actually took the time to watch the episodes in chronological order. now you just sound like a bitch...but i guess you don't mind that seeing as how you like being an e-thug apparently.
as a series, not every episode has to be great. and wtf? stop going off about real life. ITS FUCKING television. has every series you watched been painstakingly realistic? i doubt it.
next time you wanna rag on a series actually WATCH more than AN episode.

and uh, you're wrong. sue isn't a "bitch" because she's had a hard life. and no she's never used her sister as an excuse. wtf. maybe you would think that from ONE episode. you clearly know nothing about sue.
looks like you aren't always right. sorry.

In gay metaphors, I think most people would more likely judge television, or even songs for that matter, like most people judge a man at a bathhouse instead of judging a man after a dreary arranged 25 year marriage.

Every show is capable of having a good episode per season, but great shows can do it every episode. People want snappy. People have work in the morning.

i actually atched an episode of the show a couple of weeks back and it annoyed the crap out of me. the main girl, dunno what her name is, is really annoying and the dialogue is really cheesy. But i will agree that the Sue Sylvester character is really funny.

I watch it regularly and primarily for Sue Sylvester's scenes. Gotta love her insults and wisecracks.

Also loved seeing Olivia Newton-John's appearance, which has put her back on the Billboard singles charts after a long absence.

It's not made to be taken seriously, its a bit of light hearted fun!

Sue Sylvester is an over the top character but thats the fun of it, her one liners are brilliant!

I love glee, even the cheesy aspect!

I turned in for a second only to see that super gay kid ruin one of my favorite songs.
    Rose's Turn from Gypsy.

Although my friends don't like Rosalind Russell's version from the film, I just LOVED her character.. one of my favorite characters in any film and I like it even if I'm the only one. I'd show video from the episode but couldn't find any :-\
