I'm always amazed at the amount of adult gay men who buy into teen-marketed entertainment.

    >>>But I thought, like in most "kids" shows, that the actors were 20 year olds playing high school kids. I think it's so funny to see actors with wrinkles starting around their eyes, talking about their "problems of their youth".....

Um, the LOTR movies were epic. Mostly because they took the disjointed verbose books, which were "six half-books of people walking to a volcane", and made it a coherent epic action adventure.

Harry Potter is great for many reasons, not the least of which is it is a solid children's series. Too many people forget this and criticize it for being juvenile. It actually matured with age.

I broke down and watched the 1st season, and now I love the show.

Question - What is Auto-Tune? Something that makes the singer sound better?

It's a computer program that puts people who can't sing in tune... well.. in tune.

It can also put them in time, it can fix pronunciation and actually make it sound like people who can't sing CAN sing.

It's how most pop stars today manage to carry it off, sadly.

Love Glee, it's something to look forward to after a shiteous week.

I wouldn't call it anything revolutionary though and in all honesty I'm shocked they were invited to be on Oprah.

I mean, really? No wonder the bitch is wrapping up her show.

Actually, Glee is not solely marketed to a teen audience. The show has been often dominated by the adult characters' storylines. Indeed, the pilot's central character was arguably the teacher who advises the glee club. The adult plotlines are one of the reasons the show does well in a variety of demographic groups instead of just the Tweens.

Re: So I finally broke down and watched an episode of Glee.

It didn't hook me and I love musicals.

I guess I don't really care for cover songs, but I might give it a second chance sometime. I definitely couldn't see what the fuss is all about.

But, I'm sometimes completely out of tune with everyone else. I don't think not watching Seinfeld ever hurt it's ratings, so I don't think I'll be a threat to Glee's popularity either.

Well, I downloaded and watched Episodes 1 & 2 from Season 1 today, and I actually quite enjoyed it.

So it wasn't the best written, most dramatic, thrilling, and funny show I've ever seen.. But in all honesty, I'll stick with it, and watch the rest. I enjoyed what I saw, and that's what counts; something about it kept me drawn in and entertained!

When a friend suggested this show to me in the first season, I went into Hulu and saw a few minutes of it and thought - NO way! what is he thinking????

Not long before this second season started, I took another look at it, laughed a little and gave it a chance - now, I LOVE IT. You can't take it seriously! Look at it for what it is, silly drama with funky/retro musical numbers thrown in. Sue Sylvester is fucking hysterical! Call it campy, I suppose. I can understand why people hate it - as they burst into song sounding like they're in a recording studio, it just doesn't make much sense. I just see it as a completely mindless hour during a weekday evening I can laugh at and even sing along with, it is PRICELESS.

YESSSSSSSSSSS Glee is finally back to its old self after those 2 back to back weeks of crap

Its not 100% back because i needed more Sue but it sure is on its way.

Kurt looked hot as a boy and the "Boy Is Mine" number was perfection, i loved it.
Congrats Rihanna on your 13th number 1

    Re: Glee! [merged]

"Jesses Girl" was some good stuff too but i think Kurts solo was the highlight; So much emotion, so much power, i felt what he was feeling and i even clapped afterwards lol. The actor could probably use this episode for Emmy consideration.

Pretty good episode tonight. Puck was hilarious. Also, I loved the scenes with Kurt and his dad. Kurt's solo was the highlight of the episode. Ooh, and "The Boy is Mine."

LoL @ Rachel's shitty version of "The Climb" sounding better than Miley's.

This episode was pretty damn funny

"You got more curves than a Nissan commercial"

-"What do boys lips taste like"
-"Dip. For the most part dip, sometimes burgers, sometimes my armpits. "

    Re: Glee! [merged]

I was mesmerized by Kurt's take on Rose's Turn. He needs to be nominated for an Emmy. The scenes with his father are the best drama in the show.

So, it appears many of us may have been right to suspect that Idina Menzel's character is Rachel's birth mother.

I really can't stand Kurt. His dad is totally supportive of everything he does and hhe's still being a whiny little bitch. Finn's dad died when he was a baby. Kurt should stop being selfish. It would be one thing is his dad had a bad relationship with him, but he doesnt. So Kurt's behavior just doesnt make any sense.

Puck is still kinda hot but w/o the mohawk he is MUCH less hot. It's incredible what a difference that hair makes.

Although I prefer to forget the whole Let's Get Physical episode, I'm loving Glee so much these days. And last night's episode was stunning.

Puck (and others) had so many great lines. Great to see Mercedes get more spotlight. And Kurt was miraculous. I don't know how this show actually gets broadcast, because I don't expect such good things on TV.

If it doesn't make it past another season, it's not because the show is a failure but because the TV viewing audience is full of simpletons. There have been many wonderful shows that couldn't get ratings.

Kurt and his dad - and the creators - deserve kudos for their big scene last night. And how great is it that the emotional core of this show about high schoolers is so often about the connection between a parent and child, instead of only the usual teen dramas?

Other than that he's a teenager and not the Buddha.

People often do things that aren't logical, that aren't thoughtful and don't serve them well. And teenagers more than most. They're just figuring this stuff out.

I think that's kind of the point of the show, and fiction in general.

The first season of Glee was great. The latest few episodes... not so much. The Madonna episode was fab, but only because of the gimmick. I'm fearing Glee has lost its shine, but I'm holding onto it.

Ah well, I will always have the first season to love and cherish.

[edit] And as soon as I typed that, they had a scene that made me laugh hard. (yeah, I'm watching it right now.

i bet you can't name even one of her redeeming qualities.
I didn't see she had any, really, other than when she got called out on her cuntishness, she did that "Strangers with Candy My Daddy's In A Coma" thing of using the excuse that her sister was disabled as a reason for being a cunt.

It was funny when Amy Sedaris did it because it was obviously just her using it as an excuse for comedic effect. This was just a bitchy character giving herself a pass for being a bitch because she had a hard life. YOU try that in the real world and see how far it gets you.

Don't know who that is, but I get your point. Which is why I didn't say she wasn't a lesbian.

(though Sue quite often refers to having been a man at one point - how 'serious' we should take that, I don't know)

In gay metaphors, I think most people would more likely judge television, or even songs for that matter, like most people judge a man at a bathhouse instead of judging a man after a dreary arranged 25 year marriage.

Every show is capable of having a good episode per season, but great shows can do it every episode. People want snappy. People have work in the morning.

I watch it regularly and primarily for Sue Sylvester's scenes. Gotta love her insults and wisecracks.

Also loved seeing Olivia Newton-John's appearance, which has put her back on the Billboard singles charts after a long absence.

As a gay, Broadway loving, musical memorizing, former high school drama geek; I have to admit...

    I really fucking hate Glee.

I've never watched it, and I've had no desire to do so. One of my friend's 'straight' room-mates watches it, and was semi-offended by my hatred of the show, but I just can't stand it.

From what I've seen in previews, it strikes me as suffering from 'How I Met Your Mother' syndrome...which is another show my friends and his room-mates love.

It seems to me that most people are watching it for Jane Lynch, who is fairly hilarious, much in the same way people tend to watch HIMYM for Neil Patrick Harris (although, I don't find anything about HIMYM funny at all.)

I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, but I'm afraid my walk has become rather sillier recently...

I've only ever watched 1 partial episode.

It was creepy, kinda like watching badly acted porn with a lame storyline.

I imagine Britney/Ke$ha fans probably love it, but I avoid this show like the plague. From the looks of it, it's just a TV adaptation of High School Musical. I haven't seen a single episode, and plan of keeping it that way.

that being said, i didn't realize you can fully develop characters within one episode. even more, i didn't realize you could fully understand character within the length of one RANDOM episode.

people would take your criticisms more seriously if you actually took the time to watch the episodes in chronological order. now you just sound like a bitch...but i guess you don't mind that seeing as how you like being an e-thug apparently.
as a series, not every episode has to be great. and wtf? stop going off about real life. ITS FUCKING television. has every series you watched been painstakingly realistic? i doubt it.
next time you wanna rag on a series actually WATCH more than AN episode.

and uh, you're wrong. sue isn't a "bitch" because she's had a hard life. and no she's never used her sister as an excuse. wtf. maybe you would think that from ONE episode. you clearly know nothing about sue.
looks like you aren't always right. sorry.
Wow, bitter, table of one. Honey, I'm allowed to say nasty things and things I think are nasty whether you like it or not. And I'm always right. You ARE entitled to my opinion.

It's my world, you're just lucky to live in it.

Jasun is pretending to dislike something popular for the sake of being different and getting attention. Yay, surprise. He should really hook up with those morose seventh grade girls that stand outside of Hot Topic all day long complaining about how pop music is "gay" while they listen to Fall Out Boy. I think they'd find that they have a lot in common.

    Oh good...

Someone who likes the sanitized pop-culture they're spoon-fed by Disney and ABC, defending their formulaic tripe and getting their panties in a bunchlette that someone thinks their favorite show is what it is... a bunch of cute adults playing vaguely non-sexual teenagers lip syncing to bland over-played pop music sung by a computer that uses their voice print but is still a robot.

With a dash of gayety to attract the Madonna and Lady GooGoo fans who buy buy buy.

As proof, he hauls out another bunch of kids who also like their sanitized, manufactured "counter-culture" they can buy at the Hot Topic store along with ash trays with Che and Bob Marley on them.

And then he says something bitter (but is probably the lyrics to a Britney song).

How... predictable. Much like the plot line in Glee which was also the plot line in Saved By the Bell, Fame and Hang Time.

And probably Bring It On, although to be fair... I never saw that.

While I used to like Glee, the show has already taken a steep decline in quality. As others have said auto-tuning is ruining this show. I would much rather see actors that are a legit "triple-threat" (sing, dance and act) than hear electronic singing.

Glee is supposed to be camp and not taken seriously. I would lump it under "guilty pleasure" television like any of the Real housewives psuedo-documentary or survivor. Whether you are willing to admit it or not, we all have those guilty pleasures.

    Re: Glee! [merged]

You know I seriously I'm doubting the singing ability of the cast. When Kristin came back Mr Shue actually sung because he was sining with ba broadway star he's probably used to sining with. The style matched his voice, don't get me wrong people should test there vocal range or sing a song for the laugh like him rapping lol.

Artie seriously u know he's lip synching bad, Finn and Rachel's ott singing. WTF is comming out of Kurts mouth it causes my ears to bleed.

OK I know its meant to be OTT and Rachel and others are charactures but seriously Popular was never this bad. I like Sue and I'll watch for her and Will as I think he's hot but seriously I think it needs pulled back a wee bit to reality. I agree songs just don't fit although I'd love to see Kurt do I don't feel like dancing lol. Why do we need video of the week just let them sing naturally seriously last week when Rachal sang Total Eclipse of the Heart was painful to watch had she just stood there breaking her heart while singing it would have worked so much better.

So you read all my posts. Shocking.

and on the contrary, I'm unlucky to live in a world where people don't do their research before they speak.
Says the guy who hounded me about how many episodes I'd watched when it's in the title of the fucking thread.

oh and by the way, I just noticed...what's with saying Chris Colfer looks like a girl...aren't you that guy who says people who attack fem gay guys are just bitter closet homos? uh...
not when he really does go out of his way to look like a girl, no.

It's an interesting evolution to see the Soilwork who used to rail against bisexuals and barebacking now just taking joy (glee?) at needling someone after watching one episode of a tv show.

Sometimes this place is just too surreal for me.

Yeah, well I had to eat shit on my Bisexuals and Barebacking rants, didn't I?

I also had to eat shit once I decided that "Confessions On A Dancefloor" wasn't a half-bad album.

But I'll actually eat shit before I eat shit on Glee, dammit. And I'll post a video as proof if I have to.

Tonight's episode may have been lacking in humor, but I think it was the strongest episode yet. I liked the focus on Artie and Tina. I loved when Quinn put her hand on Artie's shoulder at the end. Great episode.

And wonderfully funny that the gay guest star's character proposed angry sex to the lesbian star's character.
