I love the show. I caught the premiere a few moths back on Hulu, and since then, I've been waiting for the season to officially start. I think this is a really fun show, and God knows I love me some Jane Lynch (homegirl is funny as hell). I just really want to see the episode where this Amber Riley does this performance:

    Re: Glee!

I loved it...laughed a lot...the ONLY thing that annoyed me was the songs. They are fantastic but so overproduced that they don't match up with the actors singing. "Golddigger" was great but sooo didn't look like the teacher was actually singing it. And then the cheerleaders sounded like there was a full chorus behind them, not just 2 man-ish looking girls.

but other then that little gripe, I love the show, Jane Lynch and Jessalyn Gilsig are AMAZING as usual! Sad that Jane won't be on "Party Down" anymore but glad she's on another great show.

I love evrything about this show. except:

    the terrible lipsynching

    and

the wife/pregnancy subplot. It's silly, takes up too much time and has ben done to death before. When I saw next week's preview with the sister holding a plastic belly pad to fake the pregnancy, I wanted to scream.

yah and gotta love some plot holes, like when theyre in the tub together. Because your husband, that you sleep with every night won't know you are wearing a belly pad.

As great of a show that it is, the plot is just so bad it has nowhere to develop. Get the cheer-os to start lezzing out or some hot gay action in the glee club to make it more interesting.

Don't the actors actually sing? That's what I like about the show despite the heavy autotuning.

Yeah, I thought the singing voices were terribly dubbed in.

I find the storyline of the teacher and his controlling wife super boring. He should just hook up with the redheaded-Anna Faris and get it over with.

yes they actually sing...but they are pre-recorded tracks that they lipsync to when filming. I don't have a problem with it when it's like the big musical numbers (Don't Stop Believin') but when it was Gold Digger and Say A Little Prayer, when it was just a few people in the music room but it sounds like a full choir singing in an arena, it threw it off a bit for me.

and yeah the wife/pregnancy is annoying...BUT Jessalyn Gilsig is so fantastic I look past it. I just hope Ryan Murphy doesn't kill her off of this show like he killed her off of Nip/Tuck!

Almost all singing in film and television is pre-recorded and then dubbed.

But in most films they also do post-dubbing to fix as many mistakes as they can.

They're clearly not doing that here, perhaps due to time or financial restraints.

Or perhaps the actors are just too young and inexperienced to do it well.

    Re: Glee!

Well it's not financial concerns when it comes to the poor dubbing since the episodes are costing upwards of 5 million dollars to produce. Then again, the majority of that is going to the rights for the songs so maybe there really isn't that much left over for other things like that.

Still though there's just so much to love. The cast is awesome and clearly very talented. Definitely on my top 10 list.

I have such a new obsession with this show, it's only been two episodes and I'm in love. I like anything musical though, so it was easy to pull me in. And then there is Cory Monteith and his infinite cuteness.

    Re: Glee!

I want to like this show more than I do. It has some hilarious moments (Finn's flashback, most of the time Jane Lynch is on screen) and I enjoy some of the musical numbers alot (Don't Stop Believing was incredible) but something just doesn't resonate with me. I can't help but notice both the gay character and the black character are total stereotypes, all the women seem to define themselves by their need for the men, who have the luxury of being normal in a world where are the women are just inexplicably one sided and zany. It's like I LOVE quirky shows with quirky characters. But Glee's not set up like most shows I've seen pull off the quirky/hyperboyle character matrix: it's not one real person in a world of hyperboyle (Arrested Development), or real people from an off beat exaggerated world (Pushing Daisies), or the real world with a few incredibly quirky characters sprinkled in (Buffy). Glee is some bizarre and unsatisfying half and half situation that just makes you wonder... why the hell doesn't he just DUMP glue gun bitch, or why doesn't Finn tell Cheerleader McBitchy to kick rocks. These women have no redeeming qualities so the relationships they have are just puzzling.

    Re: Glee!

It's not just the women, falcon. The PE coach is thick-headed and smokes pot. The seemingly earnest and caring lead character planted marijuana in the jock's locker and blackmailed him to join the glee club. The jock is a horny dullard who still lets friends torment geeks. The other jocks are all stereotypical pricks. The former glee club sponsor was a closeted gay guy. The principal is a tightwad.

The show's humor is based on all of these high school stereotypes banging up against each other. I think the weird disconnect you might be feelings is that it also then tries to play it straight and sincere in some of the musical numbers and the characters' feelings. It's almost like the moral tacked on at the end of every South Park episode. It's a somewhat schizo little show.

    Love it.

I would disagree. The things youre pointing out, isolated incidents that are barely mentioned in characters that over all appeal to be much more whole and noraml, are nothign compared to the insanity of Jane Lynch's militant characters, Rachel's absolutely obsessive lust for fame, Terri's atrocious avarice, or the head cheerleaders boundless need for popularity... these character traits DEFINE characters. They are motivating factors for the central female characters and many (materialism and popularity often pegged as negative stereotypes about women (you know those catty wenches LOVE to shop).

Where as things you describes, the fact a teacher smokes pot or that Schuster was willing to frame Finn to get him in Glee they're events not the kind of traits that consume a character. You're correct in your note about Finn's teammate being extremely stereotypical of jocks. I don't know why I didn't notice that maybe because Finn provides a blance for the jock stereotype while all the cheerleaders still move as a unit.

Well, considering the audience this show targets the most, teen girls, the female stereotypes/quirks are probably quite deliberate. They're likely to identify with, or at least recognize, people like these characters.

I don't dismiss the males' bad traits as quickly as you do; I think they're pretty defining as well. It's not like we've seen much depth on anyone's part, and even the two guys we're supposed to be rooting for are stereotypes. I'm willing to give this show many more episodes before jumping to the idea that it's misogynist--we're only two episodes in, after all.

    Besides, the music is pretty.

I agree it needs more time. I mean critics love it. It's got it's moments. I WANT to like it but whenever the Schuster/bitch wife storyline or Finn/Bitch girlfriend storyline comes up I can't help but think... shut up and get on with this already. If you're going to have such staunch and unsympathizable characters they really should be used for comedy (ie Lynch's character) not for someone we'd have to reasonably expect the protagonists care about.

While I want see where Finn/girlfriend goes, I completely agree on Schuster/Bitch wife. The girlfriend tonight showed she has a soft side in wanting to get her boyfriend back--she actually looked vulnerable rather than calculating. But the wife is such a one note character and completely unlikeable.

I watched the pilot and episode 2 a few days ago.

I think it's a really fun show with a lot of potential. But I can't really see how they'll keep it fresh for more than a season (if it gets picked up).

Also, like others have already mentioned, the lip synching is awful. Perhaps this is being done on purpose to add to the cheesiness of the show.

I have a crush on the bully guy "Puck" or whatever his name is.

This show is perfection except for the fake pregnancy storyline. I like Jessalyn Gilsig but I hate her character. There's like no redeeming qualities to her.

The hot guy isnt hot to me. But I like the guy with the trashy mohawk. The teacher is hot only when he is doing his dancing and singing.

I fear this show will cancelled though. I dont get how shows like this do poorly but gossip girl is popular. It's terrible.

As I said earlier, there is just too little in the plot development aspect. I kind of equate it to The Office or Ugly Betty. They were (and to some extent are still) great shows. Many viewers are subconsciously smarter than they think. They can predict the storyline and while enjoyable, they get stale after a few seasons. Thats why new characters and guest stars are added to usually spice things up.

I somehow get the feeling this show will end up becoming like Boston Public (meaning really preachy about "teen issues") but with great singing.

Yeah, I think Finn is cute, but he doesn't go into "hot" territory for me. And Mr. Schuester does nothing for me for some reason. But I am now officially in love with Puck. Those arms!

I this is Fox, so I wouldn't put it past them to cancel a GOOD show prematurely do to ratings. Can we say Firefly, Wonderfalls, or Terminator?. But I heard the demos for the show are promising, and it's generating good word-of-mouth, so I wouldn't count it out just yet.
Whatever happened to that white dog poop from the '70s?

    Re: Glee!

Oh GOD I hope they don't cancel these series. Honestly? I've had just about enough of series about teenage girls trying their best to remain as skinny as they can be while gossiping about how my brother's ex dated your ex's sister while hooking up with a hobo who came from the loser clique who's hellbent on a plan of vengeance because of hatred over her mother's drinking issue and father's aloof ways and then everyone eventually end up kissing and making up and then having a huge orgy with everybody together and all the while they're doing that, pausing on the streets just enough time for someone to catch their picture and post it up on gossipgirl.xoxo.

Those kind of story lines do nothing for the mind. If anything, they promote an unhealthy lifestyle and promote these images that do nothing to help your self-esteem. I highly suspect they decrease your iq level too!

Throw me an episode of glee anyday!

And this latest episode even touched an issue close to the heart of many a viewer- accepting yourself and having enough confidence to come out to your friends.

Plus some hotties in tight figure-hugging t's dancing around swiveling their hips don't hurt either, slurpp...

OMG Wonderfalls! I just got the dvd set. Popular wasnt on fox but it was another show that was brilliant imo.

Popular was one of my all-time favorite shows ever so of course I love Glee. Ryan Murphy is a genius. I LOL at the dance numbers in this show. Bust Your Windows and Unfaithful are the best.

this week's episode had too much about the boy band and not enough about the kids IMO

Finn is cute - damn cute

Love the teach - he's sexy

    The principal is funny

and the unrequited love thing is good too

wife being pregnant (not) i don't get - where do u go with that?

father being insurance guy then enrolling in law school? bit much

    guilty pleasure for me

I liked the Pilot episode when I watched it a few months ago. I also enjoyed the second episode this past week.
This show is a great show because it's meant to appeal to all ages.
Throw in some nice eye candy and some music and dance numbers and you have a great show.

    Re: Glee!

I wouldn't mind the lip syncing, except that we're supposed to be seeing high school students singing live as they're dancing. I assume that real "show choirs" can't perform to prerecorded vocals, so what we're seeing should at least sound like they're singing live. The Don't Stop Believin' performance sounded live, but way too polished for an early rehearsal. If they wanted to make this realistic, they'd show the kids rehearsing the same short segment of a song repeatedly and also show them trying to develop and perfect a dance sequence. (But that would probably be too boring for television.)

I like that they used some mainstream songs... That's what kept me hook to it too.

love this show just pure entertainment. I even got my partner hooked and he's not a musical fan. In the second episode loved the Push it number esp. when the gay boy slapped the Jock on the ass.

I don't know what it is about this show because I really like the musical numbers but I can't get out of my head when I watch it. During the acutal story it just all feels so weak which is such a shame because I really like some of the characters. I also enjoyed the shirtlessness of Puck even if my thoughts were 'this monologue is neither funny nor makes much sense the writers are clearly just trying to twist and turn until they find a way to make him sing without being a hypocrite for hating Finn for it'

He looks great - Mark Salling. Hard to believe he's 27 pulling off playing a high-schooler.

I'm liking the show a lot. I think it's still trying to find its tone a little bit - the balance between acidic, satirical ("Mean Girls") and wide-eyed sweet and genuine ("Freaks & Geeks", "Wonder Years"). It'll get there but needs some time to grow into its own skin, if that makes sense.
