    ITC,

It's good to have another chapter. One that was sensitive and moving. It's going to be hard for Aaron when Lucas leaves, but now the focus must be on finding Travis. It's Aaron's turn to be strong and supportive. These two were certainly made for each other. Looking forward to the new mystery.

Great to hear from you, ITC.

    I hope Travis is okay.

The bit at the top of the chapter is confusing me a little, though. It's clearly a conversation between Carly and Aaron. I thought it might be Lucas at first, but the narrator talks about Henry. I hope it's set in the past, at the end of Junior year in High School, because otherwise that would mean Carly has split with her husband-to-be. The thing that's confusing me is Aaron talks about '[his] mom' working a late shift that day.

Hm. I'm not really liking the idea of this Sean fellow. Sounds like Drama, capital "d." Come on Aaron and Luke.

I haven't read much stories on Jub in ages and this title didn't even get my attention. Let me tell you I got so hooked that I did a marathon and had 2 hours of sleep and went to work for 13 hours and was still wired came home and now I finally caught up!!! The way you wrote this story is amazing. The romance is just awesome and not cheesy. I love the way they fell for each other and perfect first kiss. This just totally destroyed my barriers and melted me. You are totally gifted. Can't wait for more warm and fuzzing feelings when reading. I'm on cloud nine and now I'll go to bed with a smile on my face.

    Hey guys,

I just want to say I'm sorry that I haven't been writing. I don't have the desire to at this time. I'm seeing a therapist right now to deal with a recent bout of depression that doesn't seem to be going away. I will try to write soon.

    Hey everyone,

I just want you to know I'm writing again and am almost done with the next chapter. It should be up by the weekend. I'm not completely over my depression yet, but therapy is helping. I hope I haven't lost any readers in the past few months and I hope you guys enjoy the next chapter.

Much love, and thanks for the well wishes,

This truly is a beautiful story and you are a truly gifted writer. I started off reading the Graduation and then had to read this and have caught up over the last 2 days. I love that you managed to intertwine the two stories just to give them a slightly more familiar feel. More so though, I love the character development and the way that you build their personalities and portray their emotions. Best of luck with the battles you're going through, I hope things sort themselves out soon (as they eventually do). Until then, I look forward to the next instalment.

    Bit of bad news guys,

Not about me about the story lol. I was nearly finished with the chapter when I realized... it didn't fit D:

Fortunately, it's perfect for the next chapter AFTER this, but now I have to completely start this chapter over again. Shouldn't be more than a few days.

I'll keep you all updated, and thanks again for more wellwishes and compliments

    ITC,
You're not alone in crafting chapters for the future when the present one stands in need of a new pair of clothes, lol.
Another author I converse with was having the same struggles last night - 3rd chapter out from current was coming along fine, it was the stuff between what's already printed and there that was the worrying part!

Hey guys, just thought I'd let you know how things are going.

Therapy has been going well, gotten some big issues taken care of and I feel a lot better.

Also, the really big news is: I met someone
He's so wonderful and adorable and he makes me feel really good. We've been going out for a month and I can totally feel my depression dwindling away.

I'm going to get back into writing here as soon as the semester ends - been swamped with work lately. Just a few more weeks till I'm free!!

Thank you all for your continued support and your well wishes. I love you guys so much!

    All the best,

    Alright guys, excellent news.

The next chapter is FINISHED!!! It only took six months but YES! I finally finished it. It is currently being emailed to be edited and once I get it back I will post it.

I want to thank you all for your continued support during my rough patch there. Some days the only thing that kept me going was thinking that I needed to get better so I could finish this story for you guys.

I really hope this chapter is as good as I think it is lol. If not, I assure you the next one (which is half written already) will more than make up for it.

Your positive thinking is so great to see, ITC. I suffer from really bad depression as well. I've been too scared to do anything about it, but it's great reading your stories and your personal story to see how you've overcome it. Good for you, and I look forward to reading your latest chapter.

    Re: Wings of A Butterfly

Happy New Year to everyone. I hope 2011 is starting off as great for everyone else as it is for me. A whole new year, a whole new ITC

HOWEVER, this new ITC hasn't changed much when it comes to writing. As promised, here is the next chapter of Aaron and Lucas. To kinda recap the last chapter, Cherilyn had just come over to inform Lucas that Travis was missing for a few days. This next chapter takes Lucas and Aaron to Vegas to discover what actually happened, and also lead them to discover something else they didn't expect to find.

I'm so sorry it took so long to bring this chapter to you all, and I hope you all enjoy it.

    --------------------------

    Wings of A Butterfly

    Chapter Twenty-Five:
    Poker Face

Look,” I said, “If you guys haven't heard anything by Saturday, then the two of you should drive up there on Sunday and try to see if you can find him.”
    But what about - “
No,” I said, “Don't worry about anything else. You're so smart you can afford to miss a couple days of class, and I'd be fine alone so don't worry about me either.”

    * * *

    That was Thursday night.

Cherilyn left early the next morning. Lucas and I checked in on her every hour or so to see how she was doing. Seems she was doing everything she could to keep busy. By three that afternoon she went to work so the both of us left her alone for a while. I got back to the apartment around 3:30 and just as I was sticking my key into the lock, Lucas came up the steps. He smiled when he saw me and I was relieved to see he was feeling better.

“Hey,” I said, “What are you doing home so early?”
“My last class was canceled,” he said as he stopped next to me, “I have the rest of the afternoon off.”
“Awesome,” I said smiling as I pushed the door open, “After you.”
“Thanks babe,” he said with a quick peck on the cheek.

I walked in after him and dropped my laptop case on the counter while Lucas kicked his shoes off and set his bag on the table. He came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist. I closed my eyes and lost myself in his touch. It was just as warm as it always was.

“How was your day?” I asked.
“It was good,” he said, “Very nice, easy Friday.”
“I'm glad,” I said as his hold around me tightened.
“I'm still a little anxious... but I've been trying not to think about it,” he said.

I was always astonished with how Lucas somehow seemed to know what I was thinking about. The way our minds were in sync with each other really made it hard to accept that he was going to be leaving in just a couple months. Part of me really didn't want to be without him, but the other part of me was scared of letting him stay.

We stood there like that for a while as he rested his head against my shoulder. I felt like I was floating as we held onto each other; I always had that feeling when he touched me. He lifted me up so high and I held onto him, afraid to let go and drop to the ground without him. His breathing slowed and his grasp on me relaxed a bit. There was nothing urgent or sexual about the way he held me, there was only love and comfort.

“Hey,” he whispered, “You wanna order a pizza and watch a movie?”
“Sure,” I said, “How bout a beer to go with that?”
    “Sounds perfect,” he said.

When the pizza was ordered and the beers were opened, we both sat on the couch flipping through the movie channels. Lucas looked amazing with his legs extended onto the coffee table, arm behind his head, and bulge poking out of his jeans. I sat next to him as close as I could and extended my right leg onto the coffee table as well so that it pressed into his left leg. He smiled at me and put his arm around my shoulders and I rested my head against his torso.

Lucas flipped through the channels quickly until he came across The Ring. His face lit up with excitement and looked at me.

“Oh come on, Luke,” I said, “I don't wanna have nightmares.”
“Please, Aaron,” he said with a grin, “I'll protect you.”
“If I can't sleep,” I said, “You are so getting kicked in bed.”
    “Kinky,” he said.

Our pizza arrived as the opening scene started. I paid the delivery boy (who was quite handsome) and sat back down on the couch just in time to see the dead girl with the contorted face sitting in the closet. I yelped and dove into Lucas's chest. He wrapped his arms around me and I could hear the smile in his voice.

“Come on, Aaron,” he said, “It's not that bad.”
“You're the one who loves scary movies, not me,” I said.

I ended up watching the rest of the movie without covering my eyes, but that didn't stop me from having nightmares that night. I dreamt that Lucas was drowning at the bottom of a well and when I woke up, he received a good hard kick in the shins. As I turned over and tried to fall asleep again, ignoring the feeling that there was someone standing in the shadows of our dark room, Lucas's phone started ringing on his nightstand.

He sat up when he answered it and I could hear a high pitched female voice on the other end. I turned back over to face him and I could see the shock in his eyes. It was the call we were waiting for.

    * * *

“Aaron?” he asked as he opened the door.
“Sean,” I said, “I'm sorry to bother you so late.”
“No, it's okay,” he said, “What's going on?”
“Well,” I said turning to Lucas and Cherilyn, “First off, this is my boyfriend, Lucas, and our friend Cherilyn.”
“Hi,” he said, “What's wrong, Aaron?”
    “We need your help.”
    “Come on in,” he said.

We filed in and found seats as I filled Sean in on the situation with Travis.

“Lucas and I had a couple drinks earlier and Cherilyn was out with friends when she got the call. None of us are in good condition to drive and we need to get to the train station.”
“Say no more,” he said, “My car is in the parking complex. I'll give you guys a ride.”
“Thank you so much Sean,” I said.
“You have no idea how much this means to me,” Lucas said as he pulled Sean into a hug.

    * * *

So there we were. Sitting in Sean's car as he drove us to the train station. I had decided to go with Lucas and Cherilyn as emotional support since we would be back by late Sunday. Lucas and I were sitting in the back seat and Cherilyn sat in the passenger seat next to Sean. They were talking quietly and Lucas was resting against my shoulder. We pulled up to the train station and got out together; including Sean.

“You don't have to come with us,” I said.
“I wanna make sure you guys get on the train okay,” he said.
“That's so sweet,” I heard Cherilyn whisper.

Unfortunately there were no trains leaving for the Vegas area until later the next afternoon. Lucas started freaking out and Cherilyn froze. I grabbed his shoulders and forced his eyes onto mine.

“Lucas,” I said loudly, “You need to calm down.”

    His eyes filled with tears.

“Relax,” I said, “Breathe. We'll find another way.”
    “I'll drive you,” Sean said.
“No,” I said, “That's not necessary.”
“I want to,” he said as he looked at Cherilyn.

I walked out with arm around Lucas's shoulders, kissing the top of his head as I felt him shivering with anxiety. Sean and Cherilyn were only a few steps ahead of us. As we packed into the car together, Lucas cuddled against me. Within about a half hour, he was asleep. It wasn't long until the passing lights on the highway started to lull me into sleep. With my forehead pressed against the window, I drifted off to a deep, dreamless slumber.

    * * *

The light from the rising sun in the horizon pulled me out of my sleep. Lucas had turned over to put his head against his side of the car. We were still moving and when my eyes focused I saw Sean was still driving. I sat up in a more comfortable position, as if that were a possibility, and tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention without waking anyone.

    “Morning,” he said.
“Have you been driving all night?” I asked.
“Grabbed an energy drink back in Monterey,” he said.
“Where are we now?” I asked.
“About an hour outside of Vegas,” he said.
“Well let me take over, then,” I said, “You should get some rest.”
    “That's not necessary,” he said.
“Please,” I said, “I want to.”

I grinned at him and saw his grin in the reflection of the rear-view mirror. He pulled the car over and we switched seats. Time seemed to go by so quickly and in 40 short minutes, we were coming up to the hospital that called Cherilyn just six hours ago.

    * * *

Cherilyn bolted through the automatic doors once they opened and Lucas was hot on her heels. Sean and I tried our best to keep up and were a few seconds behind them when they reached the Nurse's station. This hospital was very different than the one near the school and looked very modernized. It was like a giant hotel rather than a large concentration of people with various diseases.

Cherilyn stood impatiently in line as Sean and I sat down in a couple empty seats. It was early so there weren't too many people here, but Lucas still couldn't calm himself down. I knew he had somewhat of an issue with anxiety, but I had no idea how bad it actually was. He stood by the window, looking out at the garden area outside. When Cherilyn finally reached the counter, Lucas was instantly at her side.

“Hello, welcome to Spring Valley Hospital. How may I help you?” the nurse at the counter said.
“Hi, my name is Cherilyn McDonald,” she said, “You called me last night about my brother Travis.”
“One second,” the nurse said as her fingers clicked against the keyboard in front of her.

She picked up the phone and dialed a number. I could see Lucas's impatience getting worse and I stood to walk over to him, but he waved his hand at me and motioned for me to sit back down. The nurse hung up the phone and looked at Cherilyn.

“Take the elevator to the third floor and take a left as you go out. There will be a small waiting room to the right. Dr Greene will be waiting there for you.”

And we took off again. Cherilyn was nearly running when the elevator doors opened up to the third floor and Lucas wasn't far behind her. Sean and I were barely making it around the corner when Lucas and Cherilyn had already started talking to the doctor standing at the door. We didn't hear the first part of the conversation, but once we got in earshot we heard the news.

“His car was found a few feet away from the road behind some trees. He hasn't spoken much, but the police think he may have hit a deer judging from the damage to the front of his car and the severity of his injuries.”
    “Severity?” Cherilyn asked.
“He was pretty beat up. Whatever happened, his airbag didn't deploy and his body hit the steering wheel upon impact.”
    “Is he okay?” Lucas asked.
“He's stable and conscious. He had a bit of internal bleeding but we stopped it with surgery last night. We're just waiting to see if he may need more surgery.”
    “So he's okay?” I asked.
“For the time being,” he said.
“Can we see him?” Cherilyn asked.
“Just for a few minutes,” he said.

Dr. Greene walked us through the door and down the hall. We passed several rooms with critical patients, dying patients, and patients recovering from surgery. The smell was nauseating and made me remember when I went to the hospital after I found my mom. Dr. Greene stopped in front of a curtain covered doorway, pushed the curtain aside, and let Cherilyn inside. Lucas took a step forward and stopped. I looked back at him and saw the familiar signs of an anxiety attack.

I walked over to him and put my hand on his face.

“Luke,” I said, “Are you okay?”
“No,” he whispered, “I can't go in there.”
“Yes, you can,” I said, “You have to. You know you do.”

I held out my hand and grabbed his.

“Come on,” I said, “We'll go together.”

I felt his hand wrap around mine. His gripped tightened as I pulled the curtain aside. I knew his eyes were shut, but I pulled him inside with me.

“Lucas,” I said, “Open your eyes.”

I watched as his eyes clenched shut, and then slowly opened. The instant his eyes fell on Travis, who was lying in the bed in front of us and staring up at Luke, I saw all the panic and anxiety leave him in the form of tears streaming down his face. He fell to his knees beside the bed and his head rested against Travis's shoulder. I knelt beside him and put my hand on his back as he cried all his fears out in relief.

I never realized how much Lucas actually cared about everyone until that moment. I remember thinking of him as an angel in human form. He was empathetic, compassionate, and most of all, he held everyone in his life so close to his heart. I wouldn't have believed it if I saw it, but the love that Lucas Harper is capable of surpasses anyone else I've ever met.

As his crying settled into a heavy breathing, Lucas pulled his head away from Travis and looked him in the eyes.

“Thank God you're okay,” he whispered.

Cherilyn moved to the other side of the bed and sat in the chair next to it. She grabbed Travis's hand and they all sat in silence for a while. Travis still couldn't talk very much and was slipping in and out of consciousness every few minutes. Sean and I stood back watching Cherilyn and Lucas as they felt relief wash over their face like a cool breeze during an endless summer. I lost track of how long we stood there together, but I know Travis was unconscious for a while when Sean finally spoke.

“You guys should go get some rest,” he said.
“I'm not leaving him,” Cherilyn said.

Sean walked over to her and put his hand on her arm.

“Lynn, you're a mess right now. He's gonna be asleep for a while. They've got him on some pretty strong painkillers. He won't even know if you're here or not,” he said, “The best thing you can do right now is go get some rest yourself.”

Her eyes focused on his. I could see the fight inside of them. She wanted nothing more than to stay here and hold her brother's hand until he woke up, but the exhaustion of riding in a car all night was taking its toll on her mind. She was losing the fight and giving in to her need for a soft bed to sleep on. She simply nodded at Sean and he smiled at her.

He looked over at Lucas and said, “I don't have to convince you too, do I? ‘Cause I don't think Aaron has the heart to fight with you right now.”
“No,” Luke said, “I'll go willingly.”
“Good,” Sean said winking at me, “I'll go reserve us a couple rooms at that Hampton I saw down the street. You guys can wait here a little longer; I'll be back.”

    * * *

I dropped our bags on the floor as we walked in the door. The familiar smell of a nice hotel room washed over my face and into my lungs as I took a deep breath through my nose. Lucas sat down on the bed facing the window that overlooked the parking lot and sighed. I walked over and sat down next to him. His head fell against my shoulder almost instantly and his hand grabbed onto mine.

“How you doin', sweet boy?” I asked.
“Better,” he said, “Thank you for coming with us.”
“Please, I didn't have much of a choice.”
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“I mean there was no way I was letting you go without me,” I said, “I knew you'd need me here.”
“You just know me,” he said smiling, “And I love it.”
“Luke, I know more than you think,” I said.

His head lifted off of my shoulder and I looked into his eyes. I knew what was really going on these past few months. The nightmares he had when he thought he was going to leave me, the anxiety issues, the constant need to know everyone is okay; he was still running.

“After we were attacked at your house,” I said, “You told me you were okay. But I don't think you are, Luke.”
“I don't know what you're talking about,” he said.
“Yes you do,” I said, “This isn't normal, Luke. You're not supposed to be afraid all the time.”
    “I'm not,” he said.
“You are,” I said, “I think you have post traumatic stress.”
    “No,” he said standing up.
I stood with him and said, “Luke listen to me. I'm worried about you.”
“Don't be, Aaron, I'm fine,” he said.
“You're not though,” I said, “You're driving yourself crazy. It's been one thing after another with you since we got back to school.”
“It hasn't...” he said. But I could tell he was realizing the truth.
“Luke, I love you,” I said grabbing the back of his head, “And I want you to be okay when you leave. I don't want you to be like this.”

Tears were starting to form in both of our eyes. His hazel pools were distorted by the moisture in them as he began to put the pieces together in his own mind.

“Please promise me you'll see Veronica,” I said.
    “Who?” he asked.
“My counselor... the one who helped me after I was attacked.” In hindsight, I realize that I could never say the word “raped” after the time I said it to Luke when I called him.

He was thoughtful for a moment. I knew he was mulling things over in his mind and wondering how to process what I was saying.

“Okay,” he said after a couple minutes, “I promise.”

I pulled him into a hug and wiped my eyes on his t-shirt. I felt his lips press against my neck and when they pulled away he whispered into my ear.

    “I'll do it for you.”

    * * *

It was a simple raccoon. Travis was driving down the road at night and a raccoon shot out from the trees across the road. It caused him to freak and lose control of the car just as he was about to go over the bridge. He hit end of the side railing and it flipped his car over into the ditch. He slid down the hillside a bit into the tress. The police started looking on the outskirts of town and found broken glass near the bridge which caused them to investigate.

He was down there for almost four days.

When he finally regained consciousness for good, he was able to tell the doctors what really happened. Cherilyn stayed with him most of the time as Sean, Luke, and I all rested in the hotel rooms. It was only when he was able to eat on his own that she finally left his side to go rest for a while. Lucas stayed with him while she was gone and told Travis the story he told me a couple nights ago.

I don't know how long we were in that room, but it was dark by the time Sean and Cherilyn popped in to check on Travis one more time before visiting hours were over. I grabbed Lucas's hand and held him close to me as the four of us said our good nights to Travis and headed out. Sean had been absolutely amazing to us all the whole time despite having known me for a few days and Lucas and Cherilyn for less than 48 hours. He took us out to dinner in order to celebrate the fact that Travis's doctor told us Travis would be making a full recovery in a few days.

I tried my best to be as affectionate toward Lucas. He had a couple drinks to calm himself down and ended up being a little tipsy by the end of the meal. He stumbled alongside me as we walked out of the restaurant and when we got in the car, he leaned against me and pressed his lips softly against my neck. I knew what he wanted now that he was feeling better. It had been long enough since the last time I had the opportunity to even see him naked rather than to caress his wonderfully sculpted chest and feel the warmth of his thick tool slip inside me.

We were two steps into the room when I felt his hand squeeze my ass. The seductive smile on his face melted my heart and any objection I could have possibly had. His lips found mine and with his usual gentle touch, he pressed our lips together. There was no urgency in his lips, but it was all coming out in his hands. They were running all over me; grabbing everything they could and pulling my body into his.

He pulled me toward the foot of the bed and sat down. My crotch was pushed up against his chest as my face leaned towards his to keep our lips together. His hands moved to cup my ass and pull me closer to him. My quickly hardening cock pushed against his pecs and screamed inside its denim confinement. I felt his fingers tighten around the edges of my ass as one of them pushed toward the inside.

He fell backwards and pulled me on top of him. We slipped off our shoes and climbed up further. He flipped me over and pulled his shirt off as he sat on my lap. His blonde hair ruffled as it reappeared through the collar of his shirt and his sparkling hazel eyes gazed down on me. My hands went up to his chest and my thumb lightly circled his nipple. As his nipple became erect, I noticed the bulging erection in his jeans.

But he wouldn't let me go near it. When my hand slid down his chest, he batted it away and grinned at me. He leaned forward and kissed my lips gently, then moved to my cheek, then to my neck. He stayed at my neck longer; he knew how turned on I got when he nibbled my neck. His lips eventually made their way down to the collar of my shirt and that's when he started moving quicker.

He lifted my shirt off and before it even hit the ground he was working on my jeans. When those were off, his palm pressed against the fabric of my green boxer briefs. The warmth of his hand flowed into the already warm cloth and pressed up against my quivering tool. His fingertips hooked under the waistband that was littered with American Eagle symbols and gently tugged it down, finally releasing my cock and letting it have the freedom it had been craving.

His lips were on my head the minute my cock jumped out from the briefs. The heat from his mouth and the moisture he spread onto my shaft with his tongue combined into one massive jump start. My heartbeat increased exponentially and my breathing sped up as if someone stomped on the gas pedal of my engine. Lucas looked up at me to witness the effects he was having on me with such a simple use of his mouth.

With all of this going on, there was still something on my mind. This spontaneous decision to pleasure me, but deny himself the same pleasure was completely uncharacteristic of Lucas. It had always been even between us, with the exception of a couple times when he made me cum twice before he had even had a chance to cum himself. And that's when it hit me. It wasn't that he wanted to do this; he had a need to do it. But it was more for him that it was for me.

I felt his need for my skin to touch his and for his lips to fuse with mine. I felt his desire to find comfort in me and to have that comfort be shared between us both. He needed this not for me to be pleasured, but for him to feel safe. It wasn't the orgasm he was working for, it was the guarantee that my arms would be wrapped around him after that happened and that he'd be able to fall asleep knowing that I was there and that I would keep him protected.

The orgasm he gave me was incredible. My eyes and jaw clenched as the muscles in my lower body flexed against Lucas's weight on it. My abs tightened and the explosion erupted straight into Lucas's throat. He took every drop and when the crescendo was over, and the percussion instruments in my head silenced, Lucas crawled up to be level with me. I wiped a drop of my cum from his lips and he nestled himself into me.

Before he fell asleep, he whispered into my ear.

“There's nothing I wouldn't do for you Aaron.”

    * * *

Lucas and I were getting ready to get on the train. Cherilyn wanted to stay an extra day or two to be with Travis, and Sean volunteered to stay behind and drive her home. Lucas seemed relaxed the entire way home and even slept for a bit. I on the other hand couldn't stop worrying about him. I should have seen the signs; they were all right in front of me. I should have made him talk to Veronica back when he was having those nightmares.

What's worse was I felt responsible. It was my attacker that caused this, and I was feeling completely fine. I guess it was the first one that got to me, but when I was able to face him again I was able to get over my fears. Lucas didn't have that opportunity.

We were on the train for what seemed like forever. Lucas was constantly drifting in and out of sleep and every now and then would grab my hand and hold onto it as long as he was awake. I knew what he was going through, though. The nightmares, the inability to feel safe, and worst of all: the inescapable fact that he had to face this sooner or later. I knew what he really needed; it was what helped me get over my fears... but I wanted to see if talking to my counselor would help him. After all, she helped me back when I needed help most. She helped me get over my fears and over myself back when I first met Lucas.

If it weren't for Veronica, I would have ruined this months ago.
Give me one firm place to stand, and I shall move the Earth...more than the 383 miles it would move anyway.

    Wow, ITC,

The intensity and strength in that chapter was well worth waiting for. Now it is time for Aaron to guard and protect Lucas. With Travis' safety settled Lucas needs now to look inward and find the help he requires and be willing to accept the help from Aaron. It sounds as though we have another romance forming with Sean and Cherilyn. That would be nice. Thanks for starting the New Year off so well for us all.

Wow, great stuff. I'm glad Travis is okay. As for the rest of it, just wow. I'd provide a greater analysis, but my brain doesn't work at such ridiculous hours, and I know I'd forget to do it later. I am, as always, really looking forward to the next chapter.

    ITC,
I've had this chapter up in a tab since you posted it, but there were too many distractions/competing pressures to read it. I just did. Wow. Intense. Passionate.

There is a lot of love and concern permeating this chapter.
The intensity of emotions over Travis' accident, and the slowly erupting issues Lucas has kept semi-suppressed since Aaron's attack.

Thank you for coming back to your story as your life allowed, and sharing your wonderful talent with us.

And I know, if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest . . .

Just letting you all know, the next chapter is almost done. I've been getting distracted these past couple weeks but I'm putting the final touches on it tonight and sending it to my editor.

Well it's been 3 days and I haven't heard from my editor. Gonna give him another day or 2 to respond before I post the chapter as is.

    Wings of A Butterfly

    Chapter Twenty-Six:
    Surprise, Suprise...

Aaron wanted me to write this part too... even though I keep telling him it's not that important.

This room had the stink of a hospital in it. The student health center on campus wasn't a very comforting place for me. I was trying to distract myself from the typical sounds of people typing on keyboards, coughing in other rooms and the ringing of the desk phones. With my eyes closed, I rubbed at my temples and silently mouthed Aaron's name over and over again to remind myself why I was here to begin with. Suddenly, a woman in a dark blue suit popped her head out of the doorway.

    “Lucas Harper?”

My eyes popped open as I stood and walked over to her. She smiled and took my hand to shake it. I tried my best to smile, but I was in no mood to even fake a social pretense. As I walked into her rather large office and took a seat in a red velvet chair I'm sure Aaron sat in dozens of times when we first started dating, I noticed a lot of framed newspaper clippings on the wall. She took a pen out from her desk and sat across from me with a clipboard resting on her legs. She scribbled on the piece of paper attached to the clipboard before she spoke again.

“It's good to finally meet you, Lucas,” Veronica said.
“Likewise,” I said, “I take it Aaron has mentioned me.”
“He never shuts up about you, as a matter of fact,” she said smiling, “He thinks the world of you.”
    “I know,” I said, “That's why I'm here.”
    “Is it really?” she asked.
“Of course,” I said, “I'd do anything for him.”
“And he'd do anything for you, Lucas,” she said, “So I want you to be completely honest with me. No games and no beating around the bush. The sooner we find out what's going on, the faster we can fix it.”
Honesty... shouldn't be a problem for me.
“So, what really brings you here?”
“Well, something happened over Christmas Break,” I said, “I guess it just kinda stuck with me. I can't seem to shake the whole thing off.”
    “What happened?” she asked.
“Well, the guy who attacked Aaron last semester found us and attacked again,” I said, “Ever since then I've gone from one thing after another.”
    “Like what?” she asked.
“Well,” I said, “First, I couldn't sleep. I was too afraid to sleep even with Aaron right next to me. Shortly after that, I felt like I had to make sure Aaron knew how much I cared about him in case anything happened to me. The worst part was when I was having nightmares after we got back to school. They always circulated around Aaron and me.”
“What about recently, Lucas? What made you finally come here after all of this?”
“The anxiety,” I said, “It's been driving me crazy. Every other day I have a panic attack and when I don't, I'm on edge all the time.”

I leaned forward, placing my elbows onto my knees, arms laying flat across the gap between them. I ended up spilling my guts about everything that happened that day. I spent almost the whole hour talking about the very next day when I held Aaron in my arms and I was too scared to let him go and when we had to go testify against Kevin in court. The smile on his face was what haunted me the most. It was a cocky smile; the kind someone gets when they know something you don't.

It was when I told her this that she started scribbling on her clipboard. She looked quite concerned, lips pursed and brow furrowed. It was only when she stopped scribbling that I felt the anxiety rush through me. My fingers clenched at the cushion of the velvet chair I was sitting in and I felt beads of sweat start forming on my forehead.

“Lucas, I don't know how else to say this,” she said, “But I'm afraid Aaron's concerns about you were right.”
“Well how do I fix it then?” I asked with a tinge of urgency in my voice.
“I've written a couple of prescriptions for you,” she said, “One is called Remeron. It's a short term effect pill that will cause you to be very drowsy so only take it at night. The first dose will cause you to be very fatigued the next day so take it on a weekend and don't drive at all after you take it. It helps sorta shut off your brain at night so the anxiety won't come out in nightmares.”
“And the other one?” I asked.
“It's more of a long term drug,” she said, “It'll take a few weeks to actually start working.”
“What does it do?” I asked.
“It's complicated, but in a nutshell it levels you out permanently,” she said, “I do want you to come back for a few more sessions though to talk things through.”
    “That's not a problem,” I said.
“There are some side effects of these meds though, Lucas,” she said.
    “Like what?”
“The long term causes hair loss and slows your metabolism down,” she said, “And the short term increases your appetite and restlessness.”
    “Geez...” I said.
“But don't worry,” she said, “Not a lot of people know about this, but there are herbs that can completely counteract these side effects. One of my former patients told me about them. I've written the names down here for you so you can go get them.”
“That's good news, I guess,” I said, “Thank you.”
“Take care, Luke,” she said, “I'll see you next week.”

    * * *

    “Happy birthday to you...”

His voice was soft and loving as it pierced the barrier of my dreams.

    “Happy birthday to you...”

A smile crept across my face as my eyes cracked open and Aaron's smiling face appeared in my vision.

    “Happy birthday dear Lucas...”

His lips pressed against mine and he whispered into my mouth.

    “Happy birthday to you.”

I smiled and kissed him again as we both sat up in bed.

    “Good morning,” he said.
    “Good morning,” I said.
“Happy birthday,” he said, kissing me again.
“Ugh, don't remind me,” I said burying my head back into the pillows.
“Why not?” he asked as he pulled the pillows out of my grasp.
    “’Cause I'm old,” I said.
“Seriously?” he asked, “You're only twenty-three!”
“That's old!” I said, snatching the pillows back from him and hiding my face.
“Oh, come on,” he said as I felt his hand caress my arm, “You're only four months older than me.”
“I'm still the old one,” I said with my voice muffled by the pillows.

I pulled my head out from hiding and looked at him with a sullen face. He rested his hand against my cheek and smiled at me as his thumb rubbed against the side of my face. I thought he was going to lean in and kiss me again, but he just stared into my eyes. His thumb stopped moving up and down and froze on one spot.

“You know,” he said, “I think you're right.”
“What?” I asked. I could almost feel the question mark that popped up above my head.
“Is that a wrinkle?” he asked.
I pushed him away, hid my face in the pillows again and said, “You're a jerk!”
“Come on, Luke, you know I'm joking!” he said trying to pull me out of my confinement.
    “Jerk,” I repeated.
“Would a jerk have gotten you a birthday present?” he asked.
I leaned up and looked sheepishly at him, “Maybe.”

A smile broke out across his face as he kissed my cheek and went out the door into the hallway. I heard the hall closet open and shut and a few seconds later, Aaron reappeared in the doorway with his hands behind his back. He walked slowly toward me and knelt down next to the foot of the bed. I got up and crawled over to him so that we were face to face.

I tried to look behind him and see what he was hiding in his hands, but he thwarted my attempts as his smile grew wider on his face. His teeth were showing by the time I tried to reach my arms behind him and grab whatever he was holding but he moved quickly and my hands ended up on his ass. He let out a laugh as I squeezed a bit.

“Well, that's not what I got you, but you can have that too if you want,” he said with a soft giggle.
“Stop playing around and gimme,” I said.
“Are you sure you're twenty-three?” he asked, “’Cause you seem more like you're five.”
“Gimme,” I repeated with a smile.
“Fine,” he said, handing me flat, rectangular box.

I quickly ripped the wrapping paper off and pulled the top off of the box. Inside was a folded up piece of paper. I looked at him and saw his smile, then grabbed the paper and unfolded it. My hands froze as I sucked in an audible gasp of air. The piece of paper was a printed receipt for an online purchase. My eyes were stuck on the image of the item Aaron had bought and I couldn't believe my eyes until I read the item's description.

It was the receipt to a genuine Gibson Les Paul electric guitar. It was the same one I'd been eying every time I dragged Aaron into Guitar World. It was the same one I'd spent three hours playing in their demo room. The genuine Gibson Les Paul with a strap that had Yin Yang symbols all over it that I dreamed about so many times.

“Lucas,” Aaron said, “Are you okay?”
I realized that I wasn't breathing and let out the gasp I took earlier, “Yeah... Aaron, how did you afford this?”
    “That's not important,” he said.
“Yes it is,” I said, “How did you do this?”
“I had a little extra money stored away for special circumstances,” he said smiling.
“Aaron you didn't have to,” I said.
“I know I didn't,” he said, “But it's worth it.”
    “This must have cost you-”
“It's not important,” he said, “Anything to show you how much you mean to me.”
“Well, this has to be more than that,” I said.
“Shut up, dork,” he said, “You know how much I love you.”
“And you know how much I love your ass,” I said as I grabbed him at the waist and pulled him on top of me.
“Ooh, my big strong man,” he said, laughing.

My hands went down his waist and rested on the tops of his thighs. His hands were on either side of my head as he held himself up. I felt my crotch tingle as his recently tightened ass muscles rubbed against the cloth of my shorts. The smile that stretched across his face told me that he definitely felt it growing under his body.

“Is that your cell phone?” he asked with a wink.
I looked over at the bedside table and said, “My phone's over there.”
“Oh?” he asked with a smile.
    “That... is all crotch.”
    “Oh,” he said seductively.

He leaned forward and kissed my lips with a softness that can only be described as ghostlike. Suddenly, I felt as though neither of us were in our bodies. It was like we were floating in the sky and the only thing keeping us in the air was hanging onto each other. I felt his soul pressing against my soul, the two very reluctant to release the hold they had. And then we were back, and I was staring at his beautiful face again. His hand reached down to my crotch and gently pressed against my shaft.

The smile never left his face as he kissed my neck and slowly descended down my chest. He stopped at my left nipple and played with it and gently bit it. Further and further down he went until he reached the elastic of my pajama pants. His fingers hooked under the waistband and tugged my pants downward. He ran his fingers over the fabric of my boxers against my cock. The feeling of his touch, even though it was separated by the thin cloth, made my cock jump from excitement.

His fingers slid down to the button and pulled the fly of my boxers open. With tender care, he slipped my cock out of its cage. I closed my eyes as I felt his lips wrap around the head of my cock. I took in a sharp breath of air as his tongue danced around my cock inside his mouth. His lips slid downward and threw me into a frenzy. I felt his nose hit my pubes and almost lost control when he took a deep breath through his nostrils. He pushed further until the tip of my cock hit the back of his throat.

He gagged a little but held it there, swirling his tongue around my shaft. I nearly exploded right then and there, but he must have sensed it and pulled himself off completely. The rush of cum flew out of my cock and sprayed all over his face. He held his face there until every drop spilled out. He licked my crotch clean and came back up to kiss me. His lips were sweet and tangy from the fresh coat of my juices on them. He pulled away and sat on my lap, staring down at me with a smile on his cum-splashed face.

“How do you make that feel so good?” I asked.
“I just know when to hit what,” he said, looking proud.
“You'll have to show me that so I can do it for you,” I said.

Suddenly, a look of grief washed over his face.

    “What's wrong?” I asked. I couldn't disguise my concern.
    “Nothing,” he said, “It's just...”
    “What?” I asked.
“Well,” he said, “My birthday falls on a Wednesday.”
    “So?” I said.
    “In July,” he said.
    “I don't understand, Aaron,” I said.
“You'll be in LA,” he said.
    “Oh...”

We both fell silent for a moment. I wasn't sure what to say to him at all. He was right, I wouldn't be here for his birthday.

“I guess it's all starting to hit me,” he said.
“I don't have to go, Aaron,” I said, “I can still back out.”
“No,” he said, “I won't let you do that... I can't ask you to do that.”
    “Yes, you can,” I said.
“I can, but it would be incredibly selfish of me, wouldn't it?” he asked.
“Aaron,” I said, “it's okay for you to be a little selfish after everything you've been through. It's okay for you to want to keep something that makes you happy after having so much taken from you.”
“But it's not fair for me to take something from someone else,” he said.
“Is that what you're so worried about?” I asked, “That if I don't get this job, someone else won't get what they want?”
    “Sorta,” he said.
“If I don't get the job, Aaron, someone else will,” I said, “No matter what, they'll find anyone I would find.”
“That's not the only reason, Luke,” he said.
“Then what? Tell me 'cause I'm starting to think you just want me to leave.”

As soon as I said it, I regretted it more than anything else.

“What? How can you say that?” he asked. The pain in his voice struck a nerve.
“I'm sorry,” I said as I pulled his body into mine, “I didn't mean that.”
“Luke,” he said, “I don't want to lose you. But I don't want to end up like my parents.”
“What does that mean?” I asked.

He pushed himself away from me and sat on the edge of the bed, facing away from me. He started talking so I didn't move from where I was.

“I told you I didn't remember much about my dad,” he said, “But there are things I do remember...”

    * * *
I'm back. I told Lucas he was on a roll, but he didn't want to write this part.

I was only two when my dad skipped town with that waitress. I remember the day he said goodbye to me as clear as freshwater going through a water filter. I was playing with the dumpster truck that my mom's friend Billy gave to me for my birthday the month before. I don't remember much about the time of day or the weather outside. I just remember my dad coming into my bedroom and telling me that he was leaving for a long time.

Now this is the hard part to think about...

He told me these exact words.

“I know you don't understand Aaron, but I just can’t be here anymore.”
    “Why? Where are you going?”
    “I'm going far away.”

Tears were streaming down my face at this point.

“Why are you leaving? Did I do something wrong?”
“No, son,” he said, “I did. I should never have stayed here in the first place.”
“I don't want you to go,” I said as I threw myself in his arms.
“I'm sorry, Aaron,” he said, “But I don't want to stay.”

One day, I asked my mom about it, and she told me why he said that. They met when they were teenagers in the late 70's. The country was still buzzing with the idea of free love amongst the youth. They both graduated high school together and moved out of their parents' houses. My dad instantly went to work and they both moved in together. They both worked and saved up their money. They didn't get married, but my mom knew he was saving up for an engagement ring. After a few years of barely making rent and being insanely in love with each other, my mom found out she was pregnant.

Two days later she told my dad. It also happened to be the same day my dad found out about a major opportunity that would lead to a career that would support them for the rest of their lives. He never told her that though, but he did tell her how happy he was. Six months into the pregnancy, my mom found out about the opportunity he passed up. She never told me how, but she did tell me that after she found out, they started arguing a lot. After I was born, their arguments got worse. When I was one, they ended up separating.

She blamed herself for our family falling apart. If she had let him go first that night, they wouldn't have ended up in that situation. He would have gotten an amazing job, and our family would be perfect. Sometimes I wonder if she might have had a chance to survive if my dad never left. I never intended to tell this story to anyone, but Lucas pushed me that night.

I'll always remember the words he used...

    “I don't want to stay.”

    * * *

    “Aaron...” Lucas said.
“Just don't, Luke,” I said, “Just don't say it.”
    “Look at me,” he said.

I turned around to face him and gazed into his loving eyes. He took my hand in his and took a deep breath as I felt my anxiety wash away in his soft touch.

“I get it,” he said, “I didn't before, but I understand now.”

    He paused for a moment.

“I'll go if that's what you want me to do,” he said, “No questions asked.”
“And what if we... you know?” I asked.
“We won't,” he said, “I'll make sure that doesn't happen.”
    “How?” I asked.
“Well,” he said, “If there's a night where you feel like you can't be alone, then you just call me and I'll stay up all night with you on the phone. I'll call you every day when I get off work. I'll take the train up every weekend, and I'll leave my car here so you can drive down on the weekends I can't.”

A weak smile stretched across my face.

“And most important of all,” he said, “When your birthday comes around, I will drop everything to come see you if only for one day. There will never be a day you don't hear my voice. There will never be a day I don't tell you I love you, and how much I love you. And there will never be a single moment where you feel like our relationship is falling apart.”
“Do you promise that?” I asked.
“Of course I do,” he said, “I love you too much to let you go, Aaron.”
“I love you, too,” I said as he wrapped his arms around my shoulders and embraced me with the strength of a gorilla.

When he pulled away, he smiled and kissed me on the cheek. A smile forced itself on my face and I could see the relief in his eyes. I crawled back up to him and collapsed beside him. He had pulled his pants back on by now, but his shirt was still off. I played with the small wisps of hair on his chest until his phone started going off. I didn't have to ask him to know it was Jonathan asking him out to a birthday lunch.

Part one of Cherilyn's surprise party plan: Get Lucas out of the apartment and keep him out for the whole day.

    * * *

“So are you and Luke okay?” Lynn asked as we chatted on the phone.
“Yeah, it wasn't a big deal,” I said.
“So you guys are still on for dinner then?”
    “Yeah of course,” I said.
“Good. And you're sure he's up to this?”
“Yeah,” I said, “His medication seems to be working. He hasn't had a panic attack all week.”
“Awesome, just be sure to keep him away from the apartment until 8,” she said, “I'm heading over there right now. Jonathan's got him distracted for the afternoon.”
“You're sure you can handle everything on your own?” I asked.
“I'm not alone, Carly and Mike are here too,” she said.
“Oh,” I said, “Okay, I was just wondering.”
“I'm okay, Aaron,” she said knowing what I was thinking about, “This has kept me pretty occupied.”
“If there's anything you need, Lynn, just call me,” I said, “And say 'Hi,' to Carly and Mike for me.”
“Will do,” she said, “See you at 8.”

    * * *

Our perfect dinner at a local steakhouse ended with a perfect walk back to our apartment. It was ten minutes after 8 by the time we rounded the corner toward the complex. I was so happy that Lucas was finally feeling better. He was finally acting like his old self again. The nightmares had stopped and the anxiety was under control. He was dominant and strong again; the way he was when he kissed me that night in the courtyard. If the street lights weren't on, then I'm sure I would have been able to see my hunter as I was kissing my protector.

We walked up the steps, hand in hand and shoulder against shoulder. I had shivered on the way home and Lucas took off his sexy tan jacket and made me put it on. He said it looked a lot better on me and wanted me to wear it from now on. After everything I had done for him today, he thought it was the least he could do and wouldn't rest until I accepted it.

So there we were; standing outside our apartment staring into each others' eyes for a moment as the peace of the night washed over us. He slipped his arms inside the jacket around my sides and pulled me in for a nice tight hug.

“Thank you for my dinner,” he said, “And everything else.”
“Well thank you for being born 23 years ago today,” I said with a grin.
“You know you turn 23 in a few months, too, so don't even,” he said, rustling my hair.

Over the past couple months I had been letting my hair grow out a little more. I had spent my whole life with it cut super short with the exception of my bangs, which I liked to use to hide my eyes sometimes. Lucas said the longer hair made me look artsy and creative, but told me not to let it get too long and out of control. Right now it was starting to curl around my ears and my bangs were curling around my eyes; not super curly, just a slight curve. I had gotten that from my mom. Her hair was naturally wavy and would curl if she let it grow down to her shoulders.

“Yeah, well, unlike you,” I said running my hand through the hair on the back of his head, “I won't freak out too much about getting older.”
“I didn't freak out,” he said.
“You hid under your pillows, babe,” I said.
“Okay, maybe a little,” he said.

He sighed and looked back into my eyes. His cheeks were starting to turn a little pink from the cold outside. Being near the ocean made for really cold nights, and there was an extra chill tonight. I almost felt bad taking Luke's jacket from him, but his body temperature is naturally warmer and I knew he wouldn't mind the cold too much.

I took his hand in mine and ran my thumb across his knuckles. I looked up at him and smiled with content as things were finally returning to normal after everything that had happened to us recently. I almost forgot that Lucas was going to be leaving in just over two months... almost. But I knew he was going to keep his promise. He never made a promise he couldn't keep.

“Well, birthday boy,” I said, “Are you ready for this day to be over?”
“More than you know,” he said, “But by my watch I've got about 4 hours of this day left.”
“You're right,” I said pushing the door open.

We stepped into the dark kitchen together and I shut the door behind us. When I flipped on the lights, I made sure I had a good angle to see Lucas's face.

    “SURPRISE!”

I was a little surprised myself. There were banners, streamers, balloons, and rose petals all over. But what surprised me more was that everyone was here. And I mean everyone. Kyle, Anne, and Gary were all behind the couch as Gina and the twins jumped out from the hallway with a plethora of Lucas's friends from class. Even Jackie and her daughters showed up, but what was more impressive was that they were smiling.

There was Kelsey, Cherilyn, Jonathan, Henry, Carly, Mike, and Nick by the stereo system Cherilyn had rented for the night. Lucas's grandmother was even there by the drinks. It was a gathering of the people that were most important to Lucas, save for a few people who couldn't make it. He rushed over to his family and hugged them all and made lunch plans with Gina the next day. When he came back to Cherilyn and I, as we watched him light up with joy, he grabbed Cherilyn in a hug and lifted her up in the air.

“I can't believe you did all of this,” he said.
“Well, it wasn't all me,” she said.
“It was mostly you,” Carly said from the appetizer table.
“Well, I had a little help,” she said as she walked over to Carly and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, “Isn't that right new best friend?”
“New best friend?” I asked with a surprised tone.
“Oh, don't worry,” Carly said, “You boys will always be our respective best friends but, I mean come on a girl needs a break from all the penis you guys got goin’ on.”
“Carly, have you been drinking?” I asked.
“I'm not drunk,” she said smiling, “But that can change in a few minutes.”

She walked away toward the drinks, grabbing Mike's ass on the way over. Lucas gave me an equally big hug as Cherilyn left to go mingle with the crowd.

“I knew by the way,” he said.
    “Aww, really?” I asked, disappointed.
“Yeah,” he said, “You and Cherilyn aren't great at keeping secrets.”
“What are you talking about?” I asked, “I'm so great at keeping secrets even I didn't know I was gay.”
“Yeah, but I did,” he said, “And so did Carly... so you're not as great as you think you are.”
“Well, shit,” I said, “How did you find out?”
“I figured it out when Jonathan called. Wanted to hang out after lunch and when I told him I was going out to dinner with you later he told me to bring what I was wearing and change there. I figured you guys were up to something.”
    “Well, damn,” I said.
“If it helps,” he said wrapping his arms around my waist, “I still love you for doing it.”
“It helps a little,” I said, smiling.
“And you're definitely my best friend on top of everything else,” he said, “I mean as long as Cherilyn and Carly are gonna dump us like that. Who better to pick as my new best friend?”
I lifted up his left hand and raised an eyebrow.
“Please, Aaron,” he said, “I hardly ever do that anymore.”
    “Twice, yesterday,” I said grinning.
“Fuck...” he said, “How did you know?”
“Turns out you're not so great at keeping secrets either.”

Cherilyn came over and gave us some champagne glasses and stood up on a stool to get everyone's attention. It wasn't going well, so I plugged my ears since I knew what Lucas was about to do. He put his thumb and middle finger in between his lips and let out a sharp, high pitched whistle that made everyone turn their heads toward us.

    “Thanks, Luke,” she said.
“No prob, babe,” he said, smirking at her.
“Okay, I'd like to give a toast,” she said, “To Lucas. You were born twenty three years ago today.”
“Thanks for that,” he said, taking a drink as I rubbed his shoulder.
“Sorry,” she said, “Forgot you were sensitive about that.”
“Yeah,” I said, “Just a little.”
“Well, anyway… every single person is in this room right now because you've somehow managed to touch all their lives. You've brought them all together tonight with your compassion and energy. We all love you, Lucas Harper, and you better not change, because if we had more people like you in this world, then we'd all be in pretty good shape.”
“Thanks,” he said, “That was really sweet.”

Cherilyn stepped off the stool and locked Lucas in a giant bear hug. After that I waved to Carly and Mike and they disappeared into the hallway. The lights went low and they came back pushing a wheeled table with a very large cake sitting on it. Chocolate frosting with white frosting lining the edges and a set of candles shaped like a twenty-three sitting on top. The room went silent and all that could be heard was Carly and Mike singing “Happy Birthday.” The rest of the party soon joined in as the cake approached Lucas.

With tears in his eyes he grabbed my hand and kissed my cheek. He turned back to the crowd and when the song was finished, he took a deep breath to make his wish, and blew the candles out with ease. Everyone clapped and cheered when the lights came back on. The cake was cut and dispersed throughout the party.

A couple hours later, the party started breaking up. By 11:30, the only people left were Carly, Mike, Cherilyn and Sean who had to show up a little later and missed the cake and the toast. Lucas was falling asleep on the couch with me sitting on the ground between his legs. Carly and Mike were feeding each other cake and Sean was helping Cherilyn clean up in the kitchen.

With Cherilyn on cleanup duty, I dragged Lucas into the bedroom and helped him change into his pajamas. When he was safely secured beneath the bedsheets, I cracked the window open to let in a little fresh air and went back out into the kitchen to see if Cherilyn wanted any help. I took one more quick look at my boy and smiled as he moved around in his sleep. Seeing him finally getting multiple nights of restful sleep made a wave of warmth wash over my heart.

“I love you, babe,” I whispered into the darkness.

I turned and walked down the hall, smiling at the thought of my boy being happy again. But when I reached the end of the hallway, I heard a voice. A voice that froze me in my spot.

“I'm sorry,” Cherilyn said, “But he's getting ready for bed right now.”
“Please, I just need to see him real quick,” the voice said.

It was a voice I hadn't heard in years; a voice I never wanted to hear again.

    “Dad?” I asked.

The man in the doorway looked past Cherilyn and directly at me. He looked exactly like me, only older.

    “Aaron...” he said.
“What the fuck are you doing here?!”

We stood there, eyes engaged with each other; hate boiling under my blood and filling my eyes to the surface.
Give me one firm place to stand, and I shall move the Earth...more than the 383 miles it would move anyway.

    Re: Wings of A Butterfly

That was extremely romantic, ITC. It's good to know that Lucas has accepted the help from Veronica and the nightmares are no longer. It's also good that Aaron has finally explained his anxiety concerning his father. So much can be cleared up in peoples lives when the are open and honest with themselves as well as with other. Now there is the looming problem of Aaron's father reappearing. This doesn't bode well.... Great chapter and well worth the little hiatus.

    ITC,
Welcome back, and thanks for such an in depth look at Aaron and Lucas' lives, once again.

The love you exude in your writing is palpable.
I can feel myself near them, experiencing their lives.

Aaron's dad appearing after all these years.
    Why is he there?
I know the initial reaction is he's spoiling what was supposed to be Lucas and Aaron's perfect day, but I have to believe the outcome is going to be anything but bad.

I guess that's the eternal optimist in me.
We'll just have to wait and see.

And I know, if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest . . .

    I think I love you :3
