The DKs were sued because of it and became totally embroiled in litigation for years, leading to their disbandment. It was one of the albums that led to the Parental Advisory warning labels on recorded music.
That's funny that a punk band riled Tipper Gore that much.

Or, as the punks would say, mission accomplished. Love the Dead Kennedys.

One of the most dramatic range depletions I've ever heard. He still has that familiar tone in his voice that I love when he's singing in the very limited range he can now sing in...but yeah . When I said underrated I meant purely in past tense .

Here's another singer great in his prime whose voice isn't quite as bad these days as Don Dokken or Paul Stanley but still very much affected by age.

    And live recently:

Apologies again to those who probably hate hair metal bands . I just enjoy discussing male rock singers' voices, and those bands often had some of the best ones.

Plenty of metal for everyone I say - never been into much hair metal(I tried Ratt and Poison and Warrant and Motley Crue, and just found it all sort of silly even though later in life I loved that they played up the genderfuck shtick), but even I'll admit that some of the guys have some powerful voices.

I still prefer my darker cousins in death though, but i'll find some out-of-the-way things incredible. For instance!

This song here...it gets my vote for catchiest ever.

I wouldn't apologize for liking what you like. I like the 80's metal scene having grown up during the time it ruled the world.

As for Joey Tempest, he might not have the same range, but he is definitely aging better than Dokken and Stanley. Plus Europe has been actively releasing studio albums instead of just living off of past glories and live releases.

I don't really like their 70s albums from what I've heard, 'cause they're kinda badly produced (it doesn't always matter, but for me with them it does for some reason). Starting with British Steel I think their overall album's sounds improved. I need to get more albums of theirs.

I used to not care for 70's albums, mostly because stuff wasn't as heavy, and the production wasn't as good (or so i thought). I was all about the 80s stuff.

In the last few years though, my thinking (and tastes) have totally changed, and i now REALLY love 70s albums, and have been getting into lots of stuff i should have been into a long time ago. Classic stuff. Where metal began

Of course some 70s rock is really great...

But in terms of production, I just can't take 70s 'heavy' rock to be as 'heavy' as 80s rock, where the production was much better for that . For a song like "More Than A Feeling", or Lynyrd Skynyrd 70s production is perfect. It depends what type of rock you're going for at any given time .

"Dissident Aggressor" is alright . I think they were transitioning to their better production at that stage (was very late 70s wasn't it? ). In the 80s they put a little more 'anthemic' touches in their songs which I personally really appreciate .

Yeah Dissident agressor is 77. That album (sin after sin) is awesome. The version they did of ''diamonds and rust'' was excellent. I think Halford's voice was really starting to shine.

Since we're talking 70's and album production, what did you think of the KISS albums in the 70's? oh, and how would you rank the 1978 solo albums? My ranking of those albums has always been:

    1. Ace
    2. Paul

    3. Gene

    4. Peter

I've got most of the full-band albums but none of the solo ones. I know the general gist of them by descriptions - Ace's is kinda druggy, Paul's is the most Kiss-like, Gene's is kinda all-over-the-map and Peter's isn't really rock so much . I've heard a couple of songs from each album except Peter's. I shouldn't judge before listening but I picture myself liking Paul's most based on what I've heard .

I enjoy Kiss' 70s albums. I think Love Gun is my fave of the studio ones, but the two Alive's are great, and well they're all pretty solid I reckon. My fave Kiss studio album is Lick It Up ('83). That and the predecessor Creatures Of The Night really kicked the heaviness in their sound up noticeably.

I listen to their 80s albums on average more than their 70s. Crazy Nights (which I don't have yet - I have all their other full 80s albums) really sounds like pants though. Much too glossy, even Bon Jovi made heavier music in the 80s .

KISS are I think some of the best melody-writers. Reason they're my second-fave band (formerly #1 fave, until the Beach Boys overtook them), I mean this song would be 'album filler' but it's still very catchy .

And a great early-80s single from the best-living rock singer (in my mind at least).

The new Judas Priest album (came out Tuesday) is getting average to bad reviews online, but after listening to it for the past 2 days, i can say that I like it. Some average songs near the mid part of the album, but the rest is pretty good. I got the deluxe version and like the bonus tracks too.

^ I have some Priest including Demolition on CD, and was gonna post a track from it so I will . It's an average album - not 'cause Halford's not singing but just the songs are. I like this one:

The reviews I've seen have been overwhelmingly positive.

Ramones are OK . I have Rocket To Russia on CD + a few other songs. Have to be in the mood though.

*I'd be saddened about the last of The Ramones passing if it was really my era of music. Then again, that's a lousy excuse, as both Dead Kennedys and The Plasmatics are before my time. In fact, most punk is unless it's Green Day onwards.

    So, have some Chemical Warfare!

yeah the original reviews i read in the first few days of the album coming out were so-so, but i`ve since read a lot of positive ones.

The more and more i listen to this album, the better it is. I actually am thinking it`s their best album since painkiller now.
And the bonus songs are pretty cool. They sound a bit more ''retro priest'' to me, which is great.

I've listened to the album once so far and it is really good. Some clunkers but some really good additions to the Priest catalog as well.

There are so many other AC/DC songs that aren't played enough compared to their boring (at this point) evergreens.

I'd much rather hear those than "TNT" at this point.
I mean these two are fierce.

Been into this Hardcore band Holy for about a year now. They're from Italy and they're coming to Philly in August, really, really hope I can go. Their new record is so good.
