    Other rock/hard rock/heavy metal fans?

It seems that when it comes to music, gay men are often stereotyped as liking pop music and female singers, which a lot of gay men do, and there's nothing wrong with that, of course, but usually when I tell straight guys what I listen to they're shocked. Anyway, my point is, how many other guys on here are into rock/hard rock/heavy metal? And have you experienced anything similar to what I have? (i.e. straight men being surprised you listen to Metallica or Lamb of God rather than Britney and Madonna). Just interested to see what the response is.

I have a very wide taste about music. That's include some kind of pop, although only some indie groups, some electronic music, and all kinds of rock, but hardcore. I generally listen to classic rock of 60s and 70s, hard rock and some metal.
I don't like that supposed gay music.

^ I wanted to go to that to see Killswitch Engage, Slayer, and Manson actually. I won't be able to, but what else is new.

My favorite band is AFI, BTW. I'm so excited for Crash Love (the new album, out this year) I can't control myself.

I love those bands. I also dig The Ramones, The Runaways, Led Zeppelin, The White Stripes, Joan Jett, The Donnas.

Yeah but thge saddest part is how people keep labeling themselves when it comes to music. But maybe that's just me, I can listen to all of those four you meantioned just fine.

yes, I love heavy metal too. Saw Pantera years ago. Metallica with GNR back in the day. Bought a Deicide cd once, but that was just a little to heavy for me.

its funny cause its quite the opposite for me. since most people don;t peg me as gay when i tell them my fav bands are

Slipknot, System of a Down, Kittie, and others they arent that shocked, but theres this guy at my work that started playing a song, and i asked who it was, and it was Cher, and i didn't knwo any of her stuff.

so he was shocked that i didn't know any Cher, or Janet Jackson, i do like some britney or rihanna here and there though.

Can this possibly be the only ‘hard rock/heavy metal’ thread on JUB?

W/E… What do you make of this band? Ever hear of it? (They’ve actually been around for a few years…)

Here are a few songs from their 2011 album Aesthethica…

    Yes, i love heavy metal.
Sepultura, Celtic Frost, Venom, Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Exodus, Anthrax, Slayer, Carcass, Napalm Death, Death, Possessed, Kreator ect. are among my favorite bands. I could go on forever listing bands i enjoy.

  22. #22

Re: Other rock/hard rock/heavy metal fans?

^ Some really good bands there – I, too, especially like Celtic Frost, Slayer, Napalm Death (and also too-many-to-mention, other NWBHM/Grindcore bands, like Cathedral and Godflesh) I listened to while growing up, but even as a lttle kid, this was my favorite band…

I think because of their loosey-goosey style of playing (and especially, drumming), which I later realized was actually heavily influenced by jazz…

Yes, I love it! To prove the point, I'm currently taking a break from working on an essay about heavy metal in Russia and listening to my Metallica playlist.

To answer the OP (I don't care he posted this two-and-a-half years ago :P), I get a similar reaction in that people are surprised when I tell them that I'm gay given that I'm rarely seen not sporting a heavy metal band shirt.
You depend on our protection yet you feed us lies from the tablecloth!

I know you'll find your own way when I'm not with you tonight.

Someone may have noticed I’ve been posting songs by this band in another thread – ‘Songs in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement’ in the ‘Hot Topics’ forum (Ooh… So hot!) – but they belong here, as well.

Just consider, for example, how much influence they had on some of the greatest ‘heavy metal’ bands of the 1980s…

I love Rock,Hard Rock and Metal.I'm very particular about what I listen to though.I don't like 'scream metal',and I sure as fuck don't like listening to those bands that sound like their frontman skipped puberty.

As for whether or not people are surprised by the fact that I like this kind of music, the answer is yes.My friends, gay and straight, love it,because they like the exact same music I do,but new gay people I meet aren't so enthusiastic.Apparently,if you're gay and can't stand Lady Gaga you're some kind of self hating closet case.

Some of my favorite bands and singers include Tool,Rob Zombie, and Disturbed.

Favorite song of all time?'Hooker with a Penis' by Tool.

All you know about me is what I've sold you, dumb fuck.

I know what they wanted those words to mean, but damn do they have so much more meaning to me than anyone may ever know.

Triviums music is really heavy but on an album they went a bit softer and was accused for trying to sound like old Metallica which is just bullshit, Here is a badass song thats about society on sexuality, race and sex! Check out the lyrics on the video \m/

I decided to check up on Bleeding Through because I haven't listened to them in a good bit, saw that they are breaking up. Always dug band and their latest record is actually decent. When I first heard their album "This Is Love, This Is Muderous" and the first track "Love Lost In A Hail Of Gun Fire" starts off with a Boondock Saints sample, I was so pumped, it was perfect.

Re: Other rock/hard rock/heavy metal fans?

Most of the music I listen to is in the rock/metal genre I guess I mostly prefer post-hardcore type bands, but I love a lot of heavy stuff too (more in general than specific bands). Most of my favourite ones have a good balance between the heavy/loud and melodic elements.

Some I listen to are Underoath, Deftones, Bring Me the Horizon, Killswitch Engage, Nirvana, AFI, Finch, Fightstar, The Pretty Reckless, Slipknot, Shadows Chasing Ghosts, Of Mice & Men, Thrice, The Color Morale, Dir En Grey, Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Palm Reader, Eyes Set to Kill, I can't think what else right now...

My favourite bands are ones that have screaming in their music, but know how and when to use it effectively in their sound along with good clean vocals, so the majority of the stuff I listen to is less 'heavy'.
