    Fever Ray/The Knife [merged]

I'm not sure how many people here are fans of Swedish electro duo The Knife, but basically, however many there are, there should be more They're brilliant.

Anyway, Karin from The Knife has released a solo album under the name Fever Ray, and it's brilliant! I've been listening to it non-stop lately. My favourite song has to be When I Grow Up, it's got some awesome beats, and a wonderfully weird video.

There's also the very creepy first single If I Had a Heart

And just because, here is some of The Knife

That was very interesting. I think I like "The Knife" better than I like "Fever Ray". Thank you for sharing this. I am always looking for new music to put on the 'pod.
You may have just made my week-end.

    ooh good to hear

The Knife is a lot more dance-y (due in part to the influence of Karin's brother Olof, the other member), but Fever Ray's lyrics are a lot more personal - she wrote the album when she had insomnia due to post-partem depression.

The Knife have also composed the music and libretto for an opera based on the works of Charles Darwin, which will be premiering in September 2009 in Copenhagen - hopefully I'll be going! So excited!

I'm waiting on this to come in at the library.

I love "Silent Shout." I think it one of the best, most original albums I've heard in a long time.

Have you tried Spotify? You should be able to listen to it for free using that.

Another video - Pass This On

Karin is the one staring creepily at the end, and Olof (her brother) is the first guy to get up and start dancing.

I've been listening to this for the past couple of days. I prefer Silent Shout, but this is engaging. I'm curious - are the "male" vocals hers?

This would be an amazing show. I don't think I'll travel to Chicago or SF to see it.

    Here's an interview with Karin:

I've been a fan of all of Karin's work so far, but Silent Shout kind of stands above the rest for me - when it came out, there really wasn't anything else like it out there.

    Re: Fever Ray/The Knife

Silent Shout has to be one of the best dance tracks ever... works at every party. I saw the Knife live on a festival here a couple of years ago. Complete nuthouse although 90% of their music came out of a sequencer. The visuals were insane, 3D projections of a head singing along to the lyrics, it's the same show that was released as the live dvd I think. There's a lot of that stuff on youtube.

That Fever Ray record is amazing as well, aparently their live show is pretty intense as well, they played a festival here but I didn't want to pay €40 just for Fever Ray because pretty much all the other bands were crap...

Resident Advisor invites Fever Ray to mix the Halloween installment of their Monthly Podcast! Download the mix here.

“It’s music that’s often frightening—whether she intends it to be or not—because of the way she twists, masks and terrorizes her own voice, a haunting one-of-a-kind sound that has quickly become a trademark. “It is interesting what you find scary, and especially within music,” says Andersson.”

Commissioned by Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma to write the music for their opera based on Charles Darwin and his book ‘On the Origin of the Species’, The Knife decided to make this a collaborative process, working with artists Mt. Sims and Planningtorock for the first time, to capture the huge width of the Darwin and evolution theme. They extensively researched Darwin related literature and articles, with Olof attending a field recording workshop in the Amazon to find inspiration and to record sounds.

‘Tomorrow, In A Year’ is a unique musical project. Richard Dawkins’s gene trees have formed the basis of some of the musical composition, artificial sounds have been mixed with field recordings, with the music inspired by everything from the different stages of a bird learning its melody, to a song based on Darwin’s loving letters about his daughter Anne. These are compositions that challenge the conventional conception of opera music.

Pushing the experimental process further still, composer, choreographer, costume designer and set designer worked separately, only coming together 3 and a half months before the first performance of ‘Tomorrow, In A Year’ in Copenhagen on the 2nd September 2009. Described as “shifting the position of operartic art in a single leap”, further performances of ‘Tomorrow, In A Year’ are confirmed to take place in Athens (8-9 Jan), Stockholm (29 Jan-1 Feb), and Munster (5 June), with further dates to be announced.

Olof Dreijer says: “At first it was very difficult as we really didn’t know anything about opera. We’d never been to one. I didn’t even know what the word libretto meant. But after some studying, and just getting used to opera’s essence of pretentious and dramatic gestures, I found that there is a lot to learn and play with. In fact, our ignorance gave us a positive respectless approach to making opera. It took me about a year to become emotionally moved by an opera singer and now I really do. I really like the basic theatrical values of opera and the easy way it brings forward a narrative. We’ve approached this before in The Knife but never in such a clear way.”

The Wolf Hour, the Ingmar Bergman play that Karin Dreijer Andersson is now writing the music for, will premiere on the 12th March at The Royal Theatre in Stockholm. the play will also feature set design by Andreas Nilsson (the man behind the knife tour set up & fever ray videos)

+ her brother olof who she makes the knife with is living in berlin and is producing some avant garde minimal house music under the name Oni Ayhun

I just started listening to some of Fever Ray's songs after finding out she exclusively made that new untitled song for the Red Riding Hood movie. I like "Keep the streets empty for me" and "When I Grow Up" they're different, but good

New Fever Ray music to feature in upcoming film, Red Riding Hood

    November 18th, 2010

Karin Dreijer Andersson and her live band members have written a new track for upcoming film, Red Riding Hood, the new offering from Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke.

The film will be in cinemas from March 2011, but you can view the trailer and hear a snippet of the Fever Ray track here: http://redridinghood.warnerbros.com

*To clarify some incorrect information that has been circulating on the web: there won’t in fact be a cameo performance from Karin Dreijer Andersson / Fever Ray in the film, and Karin co-wrote the song with her Fever Ray band members - Christoffer Berg, Van Rivers, The Subliminal Kid & Liliana Zavala - with no involvement from any other party.

Fever Ray's debut album is amazing. It has taken me to so many magical and mystical places. Karen's lyric and song writing style is very influential to me.

Haven't heard much of The Knife. But I'm guessing I will love them if I like Fever Ray, yeah?

i think if you like fever ray you will like the last album from the knife called Silent Shout

Their first two albums the knife & deep cuts are very different from the last one..they have a more 80s hard sound compared to the organic sound of silent shout and fever ray
