Antigay Group Buys Super Bowl Ad
By Advocate.com Editors
The antigay group Focus on the Family will air a TV ad during the Super Bowl on Feb. 7, the Denver Post reports. The 30-second spot, which features University of Florida quarterback and 2007 Heisman Trophy-winner Tim Tebow and his mother, is supposed to be “life- and family-affirming,” a group spokesman said. In addition to his success on the football field, Tebow is known for his strong Christian beliefs and for wearing Bible verse citations inscribed on his game-day eye black.
Focus wouldn’t reveal the exact content of the ad, but spokesman Gary Schneeberger said the Tebows would be sharing one of their many positive personal stories. The Post suggests that story might be Pam Tebow’s decision to carry her son despite a life-threatening pregnancy.
Founded by James Dobson, the Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Focus on the Family is one of the most outspoken groups in opposition to equal rights for gay and lesbian people. It’s also a strong proponent of reparative therapy, which suggests that homosexuality can be “cured.”
Given that the organization has had to eliminate more than 275 jobs over the past few years because of declining donations, some may surprised that it can afford a Super Bowl spot, estimated to cost as much as $2.8 million. But Schneeberger says money for the ad isn’t coming out of the group’s general fund.
"Every cent for this ad was paid for by generous donors who specifically gave for this project because they are excited about this opportunity for Focus to show who we are and what we do," Schneeberger said.
Jim Daly, Focus on the Family president and chief executive, said in a statement that the Tebows' message about family comes at the right moment in the culture because "families need to be inspired."
"Tim and Pam share our respect for life and our passion for helping families thrive," Daly said. "Focus on the Family is about . . . strengthening families by empowering them with the tools they need to live lives rooted in morals and values."

The money would be better spent on relief to Haiti instead of the NFL and TV execs.
Spring is back....

Tim Tebow, Anti-Gay?

Share322322 Views Tim Tebow, the Heisman-winning college football star who was a rockstar for the University of Florida's football team these last few years, has signed on to do a 30-second commercial for the vehemently anti-gay organization Focus on the Family. The real kicker (football pun intended): the commercial is set to run during the Super Bowl. Twice.
Now, you might be thinking, "Hey, didn't Focus on the Family have to lay-off a boatload of staff these past two years? How the hell are they going to pay for TWO 30-second spots during the most watched television program of the entire year?" That's a pretty good question, and one that should have donors to Focus on the Family scratching their heads.
See, Focus on the Family has eliminated 275 staff positions over the past two years, telling 275 employees and their families to pack up their bags. Yet two 30-second spots during the Super Bowl should flush out about $5 million from Focus on the Family's coffers. Huh, $5 million. I bet that could have saved ... well, pretty much all of those jobs that Focus on the Family eliminated.
But whatever. Family values only really apply when you're commenting on other people's family.
Here's hoping Tim Tebow knows what he's getting into, though. Does Tim Tebow know that he's supporting an organization that has called gay marriage perverted and has said that homosexuals want to destroy human civilization? Does Tim Tebow know that he's supporting an organization that believes you can repair homosexuality, and that sexual orientation is a condition that can be treated? Does Tim Tebow know he's supporting an organization whose founder has said that sex education strips girls of their modesty?
We could go on.
Oh well. Maybe Tim Tebow has decided that since a future in the NFL is not looking so bright, he can always fall back on the homophobia of the radical religious right to keep his name out there.

there's a thread in hot topics to go with this- including the Advocate story....
And yet, after all this, people here will still fawn all over the guy because they think he's "hot."
Go figure.
What's sad is that homos everywhere will continue lusting over this moronic piece of maggot shit. "Oh, you're so hot, hate me more!"![]()

LOL at the theorized plot. As if some bitch not terminating a life threatening pregnancy is in ANY WAY positive OR negative. And as if anyone is supposed to give a shit.
Anybody believe the line that he's still a virgin ?
"Cryin' won't help ya
Prayin' won't do you no good..."
I don't know, but if he's that hot, and that big a football hero and IS still a virgin - GAY!!!!
LOL
I can't speak for you, but I'd find it hard to have sex with a guy with Bible verses written on his face, no matter how hot he is.
Come to think of it, I'd much rather have Matt Iseman.
Lex
Who's talking sex? I'm talking grudge fuck.
Tim Tebow can suck my dick.![]()
Me too!Come to think of it, I'd much rather have Matt Iseman.![]()
>>>Me too!
Hell, what's not to like? He's attractive, built, funny, laid back, and...um...a doctor? WTF?
Lex
Hmm...
"Cryin' won't help ya
Prayin' won't do you no good..."
Of course he is a virgin, that brain has never been sullied by thought.
Also, don't any of you have any compassion for a guy that has obviously experienced one too many concussions on the playing fields of both football and life?
I am embarrassed by your complete lack of empathy during this young mans critical I.D. moments.
So I googled him and ... really?
Over him? There are other football guys who are way hotter, but ...I guess.
That Matt Iseman guy is cute, but truth be told I would pick the most of the guys he was interviewing over him any day. A lot of football players are fucking hot and I wouldn't deny their hotness just because they don't like gay people. I mean it's just silly, I'm not looking for a relationship with them, they're just eye candy.
Hot guys don't need thought to get laid, that's pretty much proven in the gay community.
Well if he's had one concussion to many - that would explain the conservative asshole thing - but I suspect the problem is more likely his homeschooling shrew of a fundie mother.
And you know what they say about boys with overbearing mothers!!! (grin)
who the hell is he? I've never heard of him.
This makes no sense. Football is the gayest sport.
I always though that was tennis.
If I remember correctly, Tebow comes from a pretty conservative and religious family and so this doesn't really surprise me. I think he expressed his support for abstinence until marriage before? I remember reading he was staying a virgin until he wed.
Money speaks.
And who is to say he knew and/or agrees with everything FOTF stands for?
And so what if he knew?
Does everyone have to be pro-gay?
You don't even know what the content of the commercial is going to be at this stage. The OP states it's to do with his mother continuing on despite a life-threatening pregnancy. Sounds to me they're going after abortion and pro choice.
And did I read that correctly, he writes bible verses on his face before each game? Sounds like he's been dropped on his head a couple of times.
Virgin huh? I don't buy it. I'm sorry but I don't buy this christian "abstinence is the best policy" crap. It's a load of holy water and wafers.
