I think he said it was an "oh you know you want me" kind of picture lol but he felt it didn't represent who he really is or what was on the album. Like Willie, one of the things I find most attractive about David is how he's genuinely modest. Some people just say they're modest but with others you can tell it's true. I've seen him grow more confident with himself and his body over the years though. You can see it in the way he poses for photoshoots and in how he moves on stage during a show. He's still modest but I don't think he's nearly as self-conscious as he used to be.

Runrabbit, I also heard the story about Jive wanting David to use the "You know you want me" picture for the cover of his "The Other Side of Down" CD. Honestly, I think such a cover would have helped sales of that under-rated CD. But I think David was thinking more of the long run when nixing such a cover and thinking about who he wanted to be as an artist. To the disappointment of Jive, I think David had absolutely no interest whatsoever in ever being the typical teen heartthrob that dominates the teen mags for a year or two and then suddenly disappears.

I think he made the right decision for himself and ultimately for his career. History shows that using sex to target the teen girl market is not an effective strategy in the long run. Their taste changes quickly and inexplicably. Jesse McCartney must have thought he had the magic formula when he took off his shirt for his Leaving music video and started grinding against girls onstage during his concerts but the teen girls still lost interest and moved on to the Jonas Brothers. The Jonas Brothers went the shirtless route for Jonas LA but their fans still moved on to Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber dances shirtless during his Believe Tour, gets "caught" in underwear by the paps and regularly tweeted out shirtless pictures of himself all year but that has not stopped both of One Direction's albums to top Bieber's Believe CD in sales.

It's just so predictable where teen idols, no matter how hot they are, all eventually end up. With David's talent, he had no reason to go down that route.

When you watch videos of David as a 17 year old on American Idol, you really notice that his voice was a lot higher in pitch than it is today. Watch his vlogs and you'll see his voice only started to get deeper when he was late 19 or 20. Interesting how guys' voices change at different times. I recall my voice changing around 15/16.
