Oh who the hell CARES whether Darling Cook was better than the gay hobbit last night? It's not as if the voting fans are obligated to only base their votes on last night's performance! People vote for all sorts of reasons (hence Casto's baffling inclusion in the Top 4) and there might have been enough energized Cook fans who appreciate that he has been the best thing ALL season, while Archuelta has been sappy, boring and predictable for so many weeks on end. I hope Dial is right and Cook kicks that kid's ass.

Besides, I personally thought Cook was better last night anyway.

I hope that DialIdol is correct and David Cook wins. Archuleta has been rather boring most if not all of the season, where Cook has kept things at least mildly interesting.

Some people voted based on one night, but I don't think one night and shameless fluffing by the judges makes Archuleta the "American Idol". His songs were not, what was it Randy said...flawless? He messed up more than once, but the judges want him to win for some reason, so they look past it.

Archuleta sang circles around Cook. Cook didn't bring it to win it last night. And besides, he was very pitchy last night. Every time he had the extended "rocker *angst* sounding" note, he went flat. I am really surprised that Randy didn't comment about that.

But both are great singers. They both deserve to win it, but in my opinion as a pro musician myself, Archuleta should have it. Hands down. Cook is more contemporary. I will give him that. But, he is what is popular now. There will come a time where his sound is not popular. Archuleta on the other hand doesn't fit a specific genre. He is a great singer who has a voice that is timeless. 50 years from now, Archuleta will still have a voice and a sound that is considered good. Cook on the other hand... I don't think so.

Archuleta however has a voice that is timeless. He isn't trapped by one genre. Given, he does mostly sing ballads, but the sound and quality of his voice will transcend the changes in music over time.

Cook on the other hand.... I don't think so. If Cook wins, it will only be because he is what is popular RIGHT NOW. He is very contemporary in his style. That is the only reason he got so far this season. By vocal standards, he isn't outstanding. He can stay on pitch most of the time, but last night he went flat in every song. I am surprised that Randy didn't comment on that.

My prediction: Cook will get the title because his sound is popular or "now". Archuleta will get 2nd because he will have pulled a "Melinda." Melinda Doolittle was by far the best singer of last season, but she peaked too early, and got "boring." She got the most votes early on in the season, but as time went on, people stopped voting because they assumed that she would win. Archuleta has followed in her shoes. So, as much as I hate to say it, two years in a row, the 2nd best vocalist will probably get the title.

Doolittle and Archuleta are my 'Idols.'

I agree Il Divo is great, but they aren't burning up the Billboard Top 100 Singles Chart.

I sort of see American Idol as the launching pad for a career on the Billboard pop chart, yet it seems many of the winners have been more of a niche market artist.

If we were looking for the next big Adult Contemporary singer then I would vote for David Archuleta hands down.

Hm, I never thought of it that way. I suppose Archuleta does have a lot of time to change and become something new and more relevant. Cook's sound is more relevant now, but years from now? Well he'll still be the same old David Cook while Archuleta will definitely have become a whole new person and artist. That could happen with Cook too, but it's highly unlikely. The Cook we see now is the Cook we'll see for however long his time in the limelight lasts. And when it comes to American Idols we all know that can be iffy.

I'm pretty sure that Cook did win this thing, though, if for no other reason than the fact that the judges were more favorable to Archuleta last night, causing Cook lovers to vote like mad in protest. That and the fact that the younger demographic once so invested in this show has been rapidly losing interest in the whole thing, thus removing some of Archuleta's most significant fan base.

Perhaps it's better that Archuleta doesn't win. He has so much time to become precisely who he wants to be as an artist, but winning Idol would likely be a roadblock in doing that.

I like Idol. Albeit they dont have as good overall singers as they used to. I voted for David Archuleta he has an amazing voice but he isnt that great of a performer. Kelly Clarkson is the best thing to come out of idol, and will probably be the best by the time Idol is over. She has the voice, performer, personality, everything.

I have nothing against David Archuletta's singing..I think he's a great singer, although every performance sounded exactly the same, I just really dislike his personality! So much that I cringe when he is on stage and talking, or moving, the kid is afraid of his own damn shadow. How will he survive if he wins? I won't watch tv for weeks, seeing him on all the media and talkshow programs saying ummmmm yeahhh..geeee.. heeheee.

He has ZERO charisma and ZERO stage presence. Remember, guys, the full name of the show is American Idol: The Search For A Superstar. In order to be a superstar you need to have charisma, stage presence, and somewhat of a pleasant personality. Archuleta has NONE of this.

If he DOES win, he will flop as hard as Taylor Hicks did, while Cook sells millions, a la Daughtry. Period.
