Once again it was not cancelled in the move from the WB to the CW. As the UPN and WB merged it was kept on. Highlighting the part that it moved from the WB to the CW means nothing as almost all of the shows from both the UPN and the WB were kept on so that the new network would have things to air.
It was never even cancelled after that. The show was always on the bubble but then again almost all of the CW shows can be said to be on the bubble as the CW does not pull in numbers that the other Big 4 pull in. A show on the CW can go at any moment.
And name me ANY show with low ratings that DOESN'T have fans throwing together campaigns left and right? The threat of cancellation is not the same as it actually being canceled. Any news of cancellation comes only from rumors, nothing factual.
In fact, Dawn Ostroff, the president of entertainment when the CW formed would openly admit that she would cancel the show IF SHE COULD because it didn't fit in with the "young teen girl" demo that she wanted the network to be. As it was a highly stable show and would often tie for first in terms of ratings, she made plenty of comments that she was obligated to keep the show because it was keeping the network afloat.
Any news that it was cancelled is just a lot of hogwash that doesnt mean anything. As the people who worry tend to be more vocal than the people who don't, a lot of misinformation will be spread around. This is the internet after all and stupid things tend to catch fire and turn into a whole forest of fire for no reason.
As for your second point. As this whole ordeal happened months ago with little to no real news about it other than a few people on tumblr, it wasn't a big deal at the time and seems to have been all but forgotten I'm sure its not on his or his publicist radar. It's not on anyones radar for that matter.
Regardless, Jensen wasn't even being homophobic. Nothing he said was homophobic. He simply did not want to talk about the COMPLETELY made up homosexual storylines for the thousandth time. Seriously, the fans have taken a simple close relationship between two characters and have completely fabricated an entire plot from it and have flooded conventions with their ideas. To the point that people at conventions act like the show is Queer as Folk instead of Supernatural. I'm sure Jensen and everyone else involved have grown tired of talking about it. It's no longer beating a dead horse, its beating a bloody mound of pulp that MIGHT have been a horse at some point.
Any homophobic undertones that may have appeared were clearly accidental and unintended and the fact that the only people who find it an issue are some moaners on personal tumblr blogs means that its a complete non story.
