    Kurt Cobain

I'd heard Nirvana songs around the place of course but I'd barely actually seen his face. I saw him in the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video but his long hair completely covered his face in that. A little while ago I saw this video on TV and I thought to myself, "he was a good-looking dude".

    Re: Kurt Cobain

I, personally, see nothing wrong with this post. The original post is not disrespectful to Cobain in any way.

Why can we not celebrate the beauty of someone who has passed?

    Re: Kurt Cobain

There is nothing wrong with the best.

He did not say something along the lines like "OMG HE IS SO HOT I WANNA HAVE SEX WITH HIM"

He respected that fact that Kurt has passed away and said "He was a good-looking dude"

That's actually respectful and a nice thing to say.

I think Kurt was very attractive too. I was not aware of him during the time he was alive but I have recently started listening to his music and he was an interesting guy.

But I can also see how someone might take this offensive. Hell some people are still sore that guitar hero and rock band feature songs by him without his permission since he passed away.

But nothing wrong about complimenting on how someone once looked in their lifetime.

Sorry if I offended anyone. I only meant that he was good-looking, that's all. I guess I was looking at it from the perspective of one who was himself born in 1990 and was too young to have been affected by his death at the time. Either way though I don't think there's anything bad about what I said.

Oh, yes and he was amazing in many ways.

It's okay, I was too young at the time of his death for it to hit me hard, but I just feel that controversial topics should be kept out of discusions, controversial topics are unnecessary because we get enough of them with politics and religions.

    Uhm.

    What the hell?

    It's a free internet.

Controversial topics are good because they not only get people thinking but they get people to voice there opinions.

And there is usually not a right answer to a controversial topics. Sometimes opinionated.

We do get alot of politics religion.

But like it or not. Alot of things relate to religion or politics.

    You can't avoid controversy.

It's just part of life. You can either deal with it.

    Or try to avoid it.

But you shouldn't tell others what they can and can't say.

    Re: Kurt Cobain

This thread isnt controversial at all! Hot people die all the time and kurt cobain was one of them, regardless of the nature of his death. It isn't at all disrespectful to comment on Kurt's attractiveness. If anything, it is a compliment to his legacy. His looks are not talked about nearly as much as his contributions to modern music. Considering how cute he was, that should mean something.

People are already comfortable talking about Heath Ledger all day long (who was good-looking too of course) but get touchy about Kurt Cobain? Weird.

The late Kurt Cobain believed he was gay - as a teen

Another ultra sensitive teen hungry for affection in the arms of another teen male.

I'm not surprised by this revelation but would have preferred to hear this confession when he was alive perhaps, encouraging not a few gay teens to face their fears of the unknown.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-en...s-8901631.html

    I quote:

A recently unearthed interview with Kurt Cobain has revealed that the Nirvana frontman thought he was gay as a teenager.

I read an excerpt from an interview where he said he wished he were gay so he'd piss off the fundies. He was an incredible talent and a great man, taken from us much too soon.

In my opinion he was gay, channeling his sexual, and emotional frustrations into music where, he was super talented....sadly missed, by me. also.

    I watched the link.
Sounds like he wasn't sexual and did not want to have sex much.
Don't think he was gay tho.

I agree--I've known "pretty boys" like Kurt who think they are gay when they are young--confusing pretty with gay maybe---but he had some kind of issues--hooking up with a dominate bitch like Courtney Love.

Cobain's admission that he felt gay as a teen, yearning physical intimacy with a male friend might well suggest that his later life, laced with drugs was pretty much one of self denial of a man trying hard to hide his true self in a closet, more a prison cell...calculated to conceal his feelings, and sexual desires.

Well if he was giving interviews in which he spoke about this openly then I really don't think we can doubt he explored this side of himself and realised he was probably straight. He was pretty open with his emotions etc that I dont think we can doubt his choice of lifestyle really. Its wishful thinking to assign him gay in death.

Cobain's recorded words that he felt gay, needing physical intimacy with a male friend, would suggest to me that his confession was more than a reference to a passing phase when a teenager....otherwise, as an adult, and celebrity why did he make such an issue of it in the interview.

Kurt, from what I knew, was incredibly forthright and not above pissing off people just to do it - I mean, he wore a dress on his appearance on The Headbangers' Ball, so I'm sure if he felt he was certain about his sexuality he would have come out without another thought.

But, the man is dead. Can't really infer about what his "true" desires were.

Sexual orientation is neither a "lifestyle" nor a choice. Some people may suppress their sexuality and choose not to acknowledge it but that does not mean it isn't there and certainly does not mean they've changed it. They know it's there, they just don't want anyone else to find out.

    ^ looks gimmicky.

If he was truly thining maybe he was gay, I'd say he was confusing his social bonding with his friend(s) and the physical camaraderie as somehow homo-erotic. Unless he was thinking he wanted physical sex with a guy I doubt if he was gay. His later deterioration into drink and drugs may be due to the way he was working so hard on the road with his band. By any stretch of the imagination, being adulated by thousands of fans and then having to come down from that high so he can get some shuteye will have driven any sane person to drink and drugs. His wife was a mess too. Poor Francis Bean. When he killed himself, I felt bad for his child, real bad losing a father in such a senseless way.

I do wonder what would have happened to Nirvana had he survived the drugs and drinking. Would they have lasted, and still be relevant and popular, or turned to shit like many other 90s bands did.

I may be alone here, but I was never convinced Kurt was a genius. I also don't buy the "I never wanted to be famous" nonsense he was renowned for.

^We may well ask why Cobain got himself so deeply involved in drugs that led to his premature death.

In his moments of sanity he demonstrated a talent that attracted an enormous adoring fan base, appreciated by many today, including me....the captioned recorded interview also informs us that his teen years attraction to males remained a sufficiently powerful influence into his adult years to inspire him to discuss his experiences.

It could well be argued that had Cobain accepted his sexual orientation as a gay man, rather than sliding back into his closet when fame struck, he may well have avoided his journey of no return into heroin...and suicide.....I appreciate that I'm speculating...while also recognising that there are those who reject any thought that their childhood heroes could possibly be gay...nevertheless, Cobain's recorded confession to "feeling gay" might well suggest he was, what he says he was...despite his closeted life.

The idealist rising to the occasion....I plead guilty...nevertheless, your observation speaks to the insecurities alive in all of us, that we deny our true self to worship Mammon....paying the piper when our successes, celebrity, and bank account overwhelm us....far too many walk this path....here, I remember the acting genius, River Phoenix who trod a similar path to Cobain.

An artist such as Cobain resonates much more with us, than those in mainstream employment, for he represents "success," stardom, and independence whereas, in reality celebrity carries a heavy price tag that destroys the lives of not a few artists, unable to bear the burden of "success."

In Cobain's case his early life paints a bleak picture of extreme un-happiness that he was never able to shake even, when "success" showered him with gifts beyond the imagination of most here.

I don't see how it does since Bisexuality is an orientation, not a lifestyle.

I may be alone here, but I was never convinced Kurt was a genius. I also don't buy the "I never wanted to be famous" nonsense he was renowned for.

As far as sexuality, I think probably the majority of people are genuinely innately bisexual, in that they could enjoy sex and establish some kind of relationship with someone of any gender, and be happy and content with this. I think most people are prevented from enjoying this aspect of their being, by the socially imposed idea that we have to be either gay or straight. In the face of pressure, people succumb to this yes-or-no choice. However, because I think either choice can make most people happy, I don't think most of them suffer from it. But I do think the choice is unnecessary, until the point one actually picks a partner.

The suggestion that a lifestyle is not chosen is fallacious. The equation of lifestyle and orientation is also a problem. Many gays do not share anything as a lifetyle. Many who share a chosen lifestyle base in not on sexuality but culture.

Points taken, Dejavudoo. I'm biased because I'm gay. Even though I accept there are bisexuals I have no personal experience with that. I've also known a lot of gay guys who falsely claimed to be bisexual in order to soften the jolt of telling people they were gay. I guess I get overly defensive when people start throwing words like choice and lifestyle around when talking about gay people. Because I know that for me it was never a choice and I don't consider my life a lifestyle, just a life. I know that's connecting orientation to it but I have a difficult time separating the two. Gay is who I am, living any other way would be a lie and destructive.

While embracing your logic it can also be argued that bisexuality is a behaviourial trait, that the "bisexual" person is heterosexual, or homosexual experimenting with both sexes to satisfy their need to orgasm with another human person...speaking more to a liberated person than their specific sexual orientation determining the gender of their sexual partner.

Expressing one or another does not make said person not Bisexual. Being attracted to two genders doesn't = two orientations.

An interesting observation for many years ago when I was 21, I met a 19 years old liberated gay man with whom I shared a fulfilling one night stand.....he was anxious to discuss a conflict that had arisen with his sexual orientation, telling me that he had accepted he was a gay man without questioning....then he fell in love with a girl at his workplace, not just an emotional entanglement, including a fulfilling sexual life....I questioned his motive choosing to share an orgasm with me....he replied that he wanted to test whether he still enjoyed the sexual company of men....and his answer was a definite yes....I advised him to continue with his relationship with his girlfriend.. that was the last I saw of him.....

Our intimate life can be much more revealing than our often black, and white views of life would have us believe.
