I guess it is safe to say she isn't coming back anytime soon. I think she should disapear for 3 or 4 years. Until her children are in kindergarten and her hair grows back, and gets back in shape then make a come back. People will have relatively forgotten her screw ups, and she can make a real comeback.

BRITNEY SPEARS is so LAME! Even the die-hard queens who STILL think she is special can't keeping fooling themselves.
First, she was lip-synching (again) and not even trying. Her hairweave looked dirty and she is clearly too out of shape for that outfit.
Her "choreography" was a joke. Like a bad high school talent show. I can't believe MTV was stupid enough to hype this second-rate lap dancer as the "big opening act". What a bomb.
Oh and by the way, the song totally SUCKED!!!

It just felt like she didn't want to be there, she was bored, and would've preferred to be doing something else. She put no effort into the dancing, the dancers themselves were good but Britney, no.

    So much for a comeback.

As long as the VMAs serve up something - ANYTHING - that people will talk about, they can be considered a success.

Three threads about this on JUB already. I'd say the show is a resounding success.

Embarrassing. From start to finish. The lip syncing was atrocious. She barely even moved.

Pack it up and go home.

Let's not go that far. She has given very memorable VMA performance with incredible dancing in the past but now she's just bad. She was so insecure and bored looking on the stage.

^ so she could 'dance' when she was 17-20yo... Still is talentless !

    Re: Britney's Performance at VMA's

Tonight she seemed absolutely talentless, yes. But let's not get ahead of ourselves because she used to be a GREAT Pop performer. She used to tour and dance her ass off every single night. Today was horrible and didn't justify any lipsynching. Not even her fans are pleased. She got into this business way too young and it's sad to see her lose her sanity and career to everyone's amusement. I think she's over.

But what a terrible performance, and the lip syncing was terrible. Well most are lip syncing anyway....

I've seen drag queens that were more together than that mess! She stopped lip syncing at times, looked all wrong in her costume, she looked lost and at the end she ran off the stage like Miss ChiChi in To Wong Foo, well, maybe not but she should have. The song was cute and she did have the balls to go out there and do it. I'll give her that, she's got some guts. She could have stayed home but she put her self out there. anywhoo... my 2 pennies... hahaha!

She tore the damn stage. Don't be delusional because Britney finally gave you an excuse to discredit her as a performer. Even the critics used to praise her performing abilities despite the lipsynching.

She had a good cheorographer for today too, Madonna's helper. Something's not right with her.

That's not the point. I'm guessing you're not into Pop performances but she did excel in that at one point. She was never a great singer but she could kill the stage. Today she is both a lipsyncher and a mediocre dancer so she has nothing going for her, but it's not an excuse to say she was always talentless when she clearly had performing talent. God knows what happened.

If they needed someone to walk slowly in a circle looking somewhat lost and out of it, basically marching around in go-go boots while an audience looks confused, I would have done it for a handful of Vicodin too, which seems to be what she was given to do this.

There are songs of hers that I will admit I like, and I have no grudge with her trying to come back from some seriously freaky-deakie behavior starting around the K-Fed years.

But someone should just tell her, "Sweetie, let's go play with the kids tonight."

I used to like being snarky about her because she seemed to be asking for it. Now, I just feel bad for her.

Way to ruin my bitchy buzz, Brit!

Has she been prescribed meds. due to her breakdown? If she was, then that could easily explain the performance. SSRIs can make one appear as flat as an old tennis ball.

She really needs to just give up the business for now and take the time to heal. She apparently has some big-time demons. We should all just leave her alone.

I honestly wonder if these past few months of her "falling apart" are just an act. If she was really that bad off, SOMEONE would have made her "take a break" and get her out of the spotlight for a year or so. Remember, bad publicity is better than NO publicity. Maybe she realizes that she was fading as a outdated celeb, and she (and her team) have cooked up this idea of a "Broken Britney" for public consumption......

I don't think she was ever that great. The lighting, the costumes and the backup dancers were always more entertaining than she was. And the songs, while fun to listen to, had nothing to do with her. Her voice was mass produced and other people wrote her songs for her. I was a fan back in the day, but I wonder how much I would've loved her if I had ever taken my fandom past listening to her CDs and seen how fake her act really was.

I'm not surprised she bombed tonight. She's just a fancy instrument for the real artists, pulling the strings behind the scenes.

    Wow.

Before I just watched it I was all prepared to make some catty, snarky remarks... But, that's just sad as hell.

She's obviously drugged up on *something*, prescription or otherwise, and it's just depressing to see that she couldn't even see through the haze for one performance on a night she surely knew the world would be watching.

I really feel bad for Britney. She looked so damn nervous and uncomfortable it was a shame. It was very obvious that she didn't want to be there. I am glad she actually went though and didn't cancel.

However... the person who is managing her definitely needs to be fired. I would've never allowed her to go on stage like that. Britney Spears was an amazing performer. It's very sad to see that she didn't do that well tonight. I was waiting for her to give an amazing performance that would shut everyone up... but she had her mind on other things. It's very clear that she's hurt. She's hurt because she may end up losing her kids to a man that never cared about her well being. To be honest no one probably did. Her mother is now pushing her daughter Jamie-Lynn to make her more money... Her father is no where to be found... Her brother, who knows? Where are Britney's supporters? It seems like everyone left her after In The Zone was released..

So when she puts on a good perfomance, it's because she's such a talent, but when she puts on a bad one, she should be commended for "going through with it", but her manager should be fired. OK, got it.

Are we reduced to not expecting ANYTHING from our singers? It's OK if they don't pick their material (or write it), it's OK if they get ProTooled into acceptibility in the studio, it's OK if they lip-synch, and now it's OK if they can't even lip-synch when the pressure's on? What SHOULD we expect from these people now? To look pretty in a photo spread once every two months or so?

Sorry, I can't feel much sympathy. She knew this day was coming. She knew this was the linchpin of her "comeback".

It's not that we aren't supposed to expect anything from the singers... but come on now, the person who allowed her to go on stage like that is a fucking idiot. Yeah maybe Britney Spears' career is done with, but she deserves more credit than that. The girl has a lot going on right now... and you can clearly see that in her performance. She looked surprised, lost, unclear, etc... I don't think it was because she has no talent... she is just depressed. She does need to get her act together and what not... she needs to prove that she is strong. IMO the VMAs have always been a let down... She IS NOT THE FIRST to have a performance that didn't wow anyone. Many of the world's icons have had lousy performances... Britney is just one of the bigger targets.

Put a cheerleader uniform on her and do the studio 'magic' with her voice then you have a 'star'
