    Two questions about working out.

I just got a free pass to the gym for a week so I'm gonna milk it for all it's worth. I'm wondering if it's alright to wrok out every day? I heard that your muscles might get overworked and that it's not good to do it.

About protein: are the proteins from nuts, seeds, veggies and fish the same as the ones from red meat/chicken/egg when it comes to building muscles? Cause I don't eat the latter ones so my friend told me I'd have to dink protein shakes to gain a bit of muscle weight. But I told her I could just eat a lot of the aforementioned.

i have been working out for a year. my trainer insists that the muscles you work out like chest for example need at least a day to recover. process is to tear down muscle then rest to build it back up. oh by the way more protien the better weither shakes or intence eating tuna fish is good

Swimrick is right on. They told me the same thing. Alternate days, not everyday. Doing it everyday adds nothing more than doing it every other day. You end up overworking your muscles and they have no chance to heal. I workout one day and the next day I will ride my bike. Also, when you work your muscles, your burning a lot of fat and calories long after you stop.

Finally, you can get protein from a lot of other things besides red meat, chicken and eggs. Protein is protein.

Day 1, upper body, day 2, lower body, day 3 upper body, etc. That way you could still go everyday, and train specific body parts on alternate days.

If you're just starting a training program, you need to work on core and stability exercises. There's a tendency for guys to work their arms and chest and ignore developing strength in all their muscles which is one of the reasons that they end up injuring themselves or developing back and joint problems.

After you have worked on general strength then you should move to a rotational schedule where you work different muscles on different days and allow 1-2 days in between.

While you're at the gym, get a trainer to work you out and get you started. It's worth the time and effort.

The best source of protein is food that is from animals (e.g. meat, eggs, milk). Why? Because animal protein provides more complete animo acids than plant protein and because it provides portion control. Your body is only able to absorb a limited amount of protein throughout the day, so if you're consuming massive amounts of protein in shakes, chances are that a lot of it ends up in your toilet.

If you want to gain mass, eat protein (eggs, meat) with your 3 main meals. Use protein shakes based in egg or whey proteins to supplement your diet but only if you are being very aggressive building muscle in your workouts.

Re: Two questions about working out.

I would highly recommend a trainer to get started. It is well worth the money for a few (not a ton, even 3-5 sessions is good) sessions just to get the basics down on how to work out so that you don't injure yourself.

As stated, you should not lift the same muscle groups in consecutive days. Alternate days as stated or lift one day and do cardio the next. I think cardio is an essential part of getting in shape and cutting it out to build mass is a big mistake. Cardio helps with definition and also helps overall health rather than just building muscle.

As to diet, I'm a huge proponent of the well balanced meals. It's all I've ever used and it works great. All of the extra stuff is just a waste of money and the health benefits/detriments are poorly studied in all of that crap.
