Is Jesse Jackson Jr. a Snitch?

According to news reports, Jesse Jackson Jr has been "an informant for at least a decade with the U.S. Attorney's office."

Apparently Jackson thought Blagojevich tried to shake him down in 2002, but Jackson didn't report it until 2006.

Was he "informing" or reporting a crime? Years after it supposedly happened? Or is he a tattler? Or a snitch? Snitching is done for personal benefit.

After Blagojevich took office, in early 2003, he told Jackson something to the effect of, "You see what $25,000 would have done?" the sources said.
In 2006, Jackson reported the incident, which he believed to have been an attempt at a shakedown, the sources said.

The report, the sources said, came three three years later because Jackson's memory was jogged by another case — that of developer Tony Rezko, whose fraud and corruption trial included testimony about $25,000 donations to Blagojevich.

But then, it wouldn't have been.

I am not saying he is an 100% honest guy, but he is getting a lot of bad press. And he helped put Blagojevich out of commission.

I say, until proven otherwise, he is not guilty. Much like OUR justice system.

He did not do anything until the feds arrested Blagojevich, then he became "helpful".

US News actually had a column on that, back when. They looked at it as an abuse not of language, but of punctuation -- which is arguably part of language, since it's vital to communication?

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

Jesse Jackson, Jr resigning from Congress

POLITICO has not independently confirmed Jackson’s resignation. His office did not reply to a request for comment. Jackson, the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun Times both reported Wednesday, was sending a letter to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to make official his resignation.

But at the same time, newspapers in Chicago reported that the Justice Department has been investigating Jackson for both alleged campaign finance violations.

thank god... his reelection was an embarrassment, imho. he served, what -- a quarter of his Congressional term before taking a leave of absence without ever giving a specific account of wtf was going on? not to mention the multiple federal investigations going on against him right now.

there was a report a few weeks ago that he was demanding a permanent disability leave package before he'd resign. wonder if he got it.

Good riddance. We've been blessed with less interference from his father recently too.

Loki, I hope he did not get the severance package he was wanting either.

I don't hate the guy. He never would have been a congressman without the notoriety of his father.

He used the taxpayers for his own use -- updates on his house in DC, used his campaign cash to enhance his home in Chicago, he probably tried to bribe Blago for Obama's old senate seat.

    Really?

You're just going to stop there?

How about the Illinois State Democratic Party Machine?

From Chicago, to Springfield, it seems as if 4 out of every five of that state's previous Governors end up in a penitentiary.

Interesting that the "Birth Place of Lincoln" and the father of the Republican Party should exemplify such "corruption."

In Blago's case you can't rape the willing.

Oh and where is that former Gov. of Ill.?

But apparently only "liberals" and "progressives" are capable of such self aggrandizing, political gain, and self promotion.

    I love these little chats.

I assume there wasn't enough evidence to formerly charge him, but yeah... from everything I've read, it seems extremely likely that Jackson or one of his staffers offered the Governor over a million dollars in campaign contributions in exchange for Obama's Senate seat.

Oh that's right. That was so long ago I had forgotten all about that. Is that why he went into rehab? To avoid a jail term? I don't think a doctors note will get him off the hook for a million bucks.

He has problems that may not be his fault, but still disqualify him from service, IMO. Good that he realized sooner than later.
That's not why he resigned. Right now he is negotiating a plea deal to avoid jail time for using campaign funds to fix up his house and buy furniture. He has been absent from Congress since June, and the indications are that he was facing some serious charges that would be issued shortly.

The Congressman has issues, and is leaving "public service."
He's using his bipolar disorder as an excuse to resign. The real story is yet to come.
